The "Welcome to Scranton" sign is located in The Marketplace at Steamtown. Mall wasn't very busy, but after some sleuthing I finally came across it. It is just outside Crunch Fitness on the 2nd floor towards Boscovs. Surprisingly I asked an employee where it was and she did not know.... Oh well got my photo op. Now off to Coopers!
Last visited this mall nine years ago. Back then the mall was filled with national retailers like Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body Works, and The Bon Ton. All of those retailers are gone today. This is more on a national scale and not specific to this mall. The mall itself is clean, and offers the unique opportunity to visit the neighboring train yard. You won't find that in other malls in America. Additionally, fans of the hit tv show, "The Office" can get a picture taken with the, "Welcome to Scranton" sign from the opening credits to the show. I think the mall could benefit from posting/sharing memorabilia from the show. "The Office" still has a cult following on Netflix (self included) and my sole reason for visiting this mall was to get a picture with the mentioned above sign. I bet I'm not the only person who has done this. As for the locals, I could see this as a great indoor walking option. Would be nice if the mall could find a way to bring in some additional stores to give visitors a reason to come back.
Boscovs was definitely the highlight of this trip. It was like stepping into a blast from the past. My husband and I had a great shopping trip that was reminiscent of shopping the flagship stores of our childhood. Most of the other stores are empty, it was actually a little sad to see because it seemed to have so much potential for great shopping.
Food court a joke two store to eat everything close, and pizza place charge you 25 dollars for two slice and a plain penne pasta with soda ridiculous, this mall has tumble weed rolling around just a local hangout for teens.Nothing to shop have no idea why it's even open.
While the new owners are beginning many of the much needed renovations they are coming along very slowly. Hardly any stores open.
This was a very quiet mall, with not a lot going on it seems but it was still kind of interesting to visit. On the back of the mall, is a door that allows you access to an overhead walk looking down on the train yards.
