Good food, well prepared and tasty.
Menu was reasonably priced, and the steak flank is especially good, done just right.

I loved the decor, and our waitress was fabulous; the food was good -- my husband loved the seafood dish he ordered and the clam chowder. I loved the clams, but wasn't crazy about the pork chop. We had something wonderful and chocolaty for dessert with a French name I can't remember but highly recommend. Oh, and be sure to get there before they close at 8:00.
Years ago a co-worker suggested we dine at the Ajax Cafe when in the eastern part of the Olympic Peninsula. This restaurant is well worth the trip and easily reached from Port Ludlow or Port Townsend. The atmosphere is funky with the menu tape to the inside of old LP album covers and odd hat assortments hanging from the walls. Best of all the food is always good and the entertainment is just right for folks who are retirees like ourselves.
I'll admit that the first time I came here was about 6 months ago, and neither hubby, nor I were impressed with the meals we ordered. They were good, just nothing special, so we haven't been back since.
Last night I returned with three girlfriends after work, and this time my experience was nothing short of fabulous. Split a cobb salad with one of my gal pals and also ordered the special, which was fig and blue cheese stuffed ravioli. Our salad was delicious and split beautifully onto two small plates -- and to my surprise we weren't even charged for it. The ravioli was so rich and decadent, I savored every bite. I should have saved half for a lite lunch the next day -- but couldn't stop eating it, it was just wonderful. Our servers were everything you'd expect, friendly, informative, attentive. We were there for three hours and never wanted for a thing. So glad I returned for a second try as I've always heard great things. Now I see what everyone is talking about!
While travelling in the area and looking for place to eat I checked reviews of restaurants in Port Hadlock but didn't find anything good. Local people advised Ajax cafe. Came there and wasn't disappointed. Food is good fresh especially don't miss local oysters and clams. Claim chowder is worth to try-it's different from traditional one. Cafe located in old building at waterfront
