My family was in Winston Salem for a graduation and we wandered into Mast. There were three generations of family and we all found something to buy. I got tea, dressings, coasters and a sign. My dad got tea, kitchen gadgets and a shirt. My son got candy and we all enjoyed the wide variety of items to buy. Everyone was friendly and it was a fun place to wander around. There are chairs to sit down if you get tired. Highly recommend it!
This store will remind you of a cracker barrel store at first but the stuff is way better! You can find almost anything in there from your childhood especially candy! They have nice clothes, jams, mustard's and everything! Awesome place to get lost in!!
We love it when people "get lost" in the store, mselizabethtv! Glad you enjoyed your visit.
I so enjoyed the Mast Store up in Boone, NC, so when I heard one was opening in our Winston-Salem area, I was happy, indeed! The review stating that things are overpriced and that the same goods can be purchased at Cabelas, Amazon, etc, does a disservice to Mast Store. I'm thoroughly familiar with Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops, Gander Mountain, LL Bean and all the rest--heaven knows, their stuff is all over our house and garage! I am wearing an LL Bean shirt and socks. But Mast is different. There is so much more of the true "country" items for decor and kitchen that you will not find at those other places. But there is still a decent selection of the outdoor clothing and sporting goods stocked by the others mentioned stores. (Mast is not, nor does it pretend to be, a place of guns, ammo, hunting and fishing gear, rods, reels , tents, and...deer lick blocks.) The candy variety is incredible, not to mention jams (my favorite.) As I write this, I am sipping coffee from my solid porcelain Mast coffee mug. One does not go into Mast just to buy something and walk out. Truly, one must set aside the time to relax and browse and loiter. The "experience" is the thing! Thanks, Mast, for coming to our city!
We thank Winston-Salem for opening your arms to us. What a great city! You are correct - the "experience" is the thing. We thank you for noticing because we focus our energy on making that experience a good one. Mike H, you made our day!
I was really looking foward to going to this store when I heard it was coming to Winston- Salem. But I sure was disappointed when I went. Everything in the store is overpriced. You can find the exact same items at Dicks Sporting Goods, Cabelas or at Amazon for much cheaper prices. This place is a joke. They need to be put out of business.
Sorry your experience wasn't the best, bullintreehouse. We strive to live up to customers' expectations so I apologize that you were disappointed.
We try very hard at the Mast Store to continue our heritage of being an old-timey general store and offering items that customers would have found in the early 20th century. We still have the stoneground grits and cornmeal from the Old Mill of Guilford, honey, and our own line of jams, jellies, and preserves. You'll also find a great collection of cast iron cookware, handmade rocking chairs, and Made in NC (and USA) socks.
Our stores change in response to the needs and wants of our customers, but every effort is made to maintain a feeling and experience of the past from the merchandise mix to the friendly customer service. I hope you will give us another try.
What a nice surprise when I walked into Mast general Store. It took me back to my childhood where my grandfather owned and operated a general store in a small town in south Louisiana. The wood floors creaked, the glass cases shined and the sweet smell of the old fashion candy permeated the back of the store. The staff was quite friendly as well and offered information about the history of the company. Would definitely recommend a trip to this store...a walk down memory lane.
Thanks for the review, Cankton. We like to read positive reviews from folks - especially when the review comes from someone whose grandfather owned a general store! We think you really "get it". I'm happy that you enjoyed your day and I hope you enjoyed a bag of candy, too!
