Reciently my wife and I were given the gift of a Cove Art walk which is one of four HobART walks in Hobart. Even though we are locals having the opportunity to observe art students and local artists during the creative process, seeing the architecture and art works in the IXL Art Hotel and learning about its colourful history was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The tour provides a unique experience by providing access to art in venues that most tourists and locals would not normally see. From the meeting point at Tug to the Despard gallery we were entertained by our hosts Christina Scott and Sarah Beith. The tour ended with Tasmanian nibbles and wine which was a great way to wind up.
If you are visiting Hobart to go to MONA, as we did last week, you may like to be aware of hobARTwalks. These ARTwalks are a new venture by Christine Scott, curator of the collection at the Henry Jones Art Hotel, and are in response to guests asking Christine to consider tours of the wider Hobart art community.
We went on the North HobARTwalk and loved it - it was an insider guide to galleries and collections we would not otherwise have known existed. It was frustrating not to have the time to experience all the walks - they will be a treat for the future.
We recommend these reasonably priced, very enjoyable ARTwalks, and thank Christine for adding so much to our art experience in Hobart.
