Elegant, but comfortable accommodation in my favorite part of Hobart. We stayed in the York apartment having the entire second floor with two lovely bedrooms, impeccably clean kitchen and bath and spacious living room plus a useful half bath downstairs at the foot of the stairs. The charming Arthur Circus street is just behind and the excellent Jackson and McRoss breakfast/brunch/lunch a few buildings up Hampden Road along with other yummy dining choices. Salamanca is a short walk away too.

Great location. Wonderfully appointed- it was walking into a friends house. Easy walking distance to restaurants and shops. Would definitely recommend it for a stay in Hobart. We stayed in the York 2 bedroom apartment.

We were made very welcome and Ted was very accommodating by our unexpected early arrival. Comfortable, well appointed and fantastic location. Walked to waterfront and restaurants. We'll be back again.

Thank you for your positive review. The Grand Old Duke's great location allows for easy walks to the best of Hobart's attractions and that means a car isn't always necessary.

We understand that travel plans need to be flexible and where possible, try to accommodate early arrivals/departures.

We hope to see you return soon.

Part very comfortable accommodation, part taste of the history of Hobart, The Grand Old Duke is a fabulous find! It feels a bit like staying in a rich aunt's house - full of lovely furniture (and the MOST spectacular floors) but super welcoming too.

We stayed in The York apartment which takes up the whole top floor. The photos don't do it justice - it was enormous and had everything we could want durning our stay. We loved having a full sized kitchen and all the rooms were huge so we had lots of space to relax and spread out.

It was fantastic being so close to everything, including Salamanca Markets and all the fabulous cafes on Hampden Rd. We barely used our car. We also really appreciated being able to use the laundry for free.

The only down side is that it doesn't have its own parking (although you do get a permit for street parking) but it is a very small price to pay for such lovely accommodation that is so full of character. Brilliant!

Room tip: The York apartment is huge and has great views over the chimney pots of Battery Point

Thank you for the wonderful review. Over its 165 years, the Grand Old Duke, like an aged wine, has developed a character and soul that just can't be found in contemporary hotels - and being so well positioned is such a bonus!
I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Battery Point, Hobart.
Cheers

We absolutely LOVED our stay at the Grand Old Duke last weekend. When we stepped out our front door we had everything at our fingertips...all within a few shops or a few hundred metres! We couldn't believe it :-) The BEST bakery in Hobart was a 1 minute walk up the street, wine bars, delicious restaurants (our favourite...Da Angelos Pizzeria was DELICIOUS!!!!!! and staff so friendly!). Salamanca was our home base for 4 days and we absolutely LOVED our walk down Kelly Steps into the centre of all the action. It was just fabulous. Our room was very pleasant with classic furniture and a great central heating system (and electric blanket!)...totally loved it all! Thanks Grand Old Duke :-)

Room tip: Any room here would be lovely!

Position, position, position! Yes, the Grand Old Duke certainly has that in spades! Being situated right on Arthur Circus, means that Hobart's best pubs, cafes and wine bars are just a few steps away. Da Angelo's Italian restaurant is of course, fabulous and very popular for dinner while the iconic Jackman and McRoss bakery is everyone's favorite for breakfast and lunch - and that's why we're using it for our 'winter special' deal (only available on our web site.
I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you stay at the Grand Old Duke again.
Cheers,
