Hello,

I've eaten here twice recently, once for a family lunch (May) and once for Sunday carvery (August).

Lunch - good selection of food, something for everyone and thought the prices were reasonable. However service was pretty poor. Sat down and given menus, waitress didn't have enough menus for the table as they were busy. Waitress then returned to the table almost straight away and asked if we were ready to order. We said no not yet and then to our amazement asked if she could have a couple of the menus back anyway as she needed them for another table! We were already having to share as it was. I could maybe understand the shortage if the menus were nice fancy books but they were just printed sheets of paper. Not the kind of service you would expect from a hotel..

Then my sister got hairs in her dinner. Hotel apologised and only when challenged when paying did the knock the price of hers off the bill.

Anyway despite the hair I ended up back for a Sunday carvery, (someone else booked it). Meal was OK and at £14 is probably the cheapest carvery I've had in a while. Nothing fancy but ok. there was one hot starter of chicken strips but staff didn't refill it often. was empty when we went up and was advised by the girl at the bar that more were coming out. well we had finished our mains by the time they appeared and only after a whole table of people had took to standing beside the empty dish. I was surprised to be told by staff that they could not provide me with either a decaf tea or coffee when it came to the tea/coffee course. Again never been to a hotel that can't provide decaf.

Overall while the food is more attractively priced than others locally, think I'll pay the extra in future.

The Management & Staff of the Fir Trees Hotel do their utmost to ensure that guests and patrons have an enjoyable experience when using the hotel facilities, and it is gratifying to to read the vast number of complimentary reviews that are posted on Tripadvisor. Whilst the overall tone of this review is disappointing we feel that the reviewer is being somewhat pedantic about what were essentially a few minor service issues. The Fir Trees is renowned for it's food offer, attracting a huge customer base, and at peak times can serve 500 + meals. Whilst we strive for perfection there are times when mistakes occur, as is the case in most busy restaurants. We can at least take some satisfaction from the reviewer's positive comments in relation to the standard and value to be found in our food offer.

Was part of a birthday party recently, when leaving the birthday cake at reception the very unpleasant receptionist made no attempt to find out what table we were at until we had to point to which table we were sitting at! After ordering prosecco we were told to "work away ourselves" when it came to the table, the waitress was completely incompetent and completely messed up two tables orders then blamed the iPad! The band in the bar were terrible and there was no atmosphere whatsoever!
Only good points were that the food was perfectly reasonable and very well priced

The staff and management of the Fir Trees do their utmost to ensure that all patrons have an enjoyable experience when visiting the hotel, as is evidenced by the huge amount of favourable reviews posted on Tripadvisor. While it is very disappointing to receive a report of this nature we feel that the reviewer is being somewhat pedantic, in that the receptionist must always establish the destination of cakes etc, Ipads can malfunction and opinions on music can be very subjective. It is somewhat satisfying to read the favourable comments in relation to the standard of food and the good value to be had at the hotel, and we would hope that the reviewer returns to the Fir Trees in the future.

We stayed for the Foyle Cup which our son was playing in. The hotel was first class for the whole stay. The staff were amazing especially with the kids and made them very welcome. The evening meals were outstanding and very very cheap. Lots of discounts! We would definitely stay again. Thank you to everyone.

Stayed for a week meeting family and seeing the sights. Really enjoyed the stay. Comfortable room, good shower and all kept spotlessly clean.
A highlight was the food. We had several evening meals here so sampled a lot of the menu. No disappointment there. One evening our party numbered 32; everyone enjoyed their meal, steaks cooked to individual taste and all arrived together. The staff are amazing, work incredibly hard and with unfailing good humour.
My room was noisy over the weekend, it is a popular venue and they had live bands. This didn't bother me but something to consider if you like it quiet.
I would definitely stay here again the next time I return.
