A large group of English, Scottish and French friends went here for a lunch in June flowing an utterly delightful walk along the river and around Jarnac. The three-course meal was less than 20 euros a head. We had a starter of charcouterie followed by...fish and chips or gammon and chips with a selection of desserts to follow. This is honest basic French cooking. The staff are a delight and the food is good. I have eaten many meals under 20 euros for three courses but value for money this place comes out on top. The simple restaurant serves the adjacent swimming pool and the mobile home camp site. Do not be put off - many of my French friends rate this place highly as a no frills lunch at an extremely sensible price.More

Three of us went for a tuesday lunch. The ownership has changed since last year but for 2020 I think it is an improvement. After a jolly good Leffe beer each we had an escalope milanese, an entrecote steak and a bavette. We washed the...main course down with half litre of the house red (7 euros!). Each main dish was excellent, well cooked and generally jolly good. We finished with a couple of cafe gourmand and a chocolate ice creme dessert, which had all the artistic merit of a knickerbocker glorry. Children will lvoe it! This restaurant has loads of outside seating, very friendly staff and owners and is very reasonably priced.. Highly recommended for plain honests cooking and sensible prices. Would I go again? Most certainly.More

We had an excellent whitefish dinner with risotto/vegetables and salad. Scallops and turkey shish kabob. Service was excellent and waiter very personable and friendly. Dessert was very good as were the fancy coffees. Menu was extensive - pizza plus many meat fish dishes. We ate...outside but moved in for dessert as it got cool Great value for money. Thank you.More

I love this place. It is nearly a year since I was last here with some French friends but on this occasion I was with my wife having a quick one course lunch before driving North. The service as always was excellent, the staff really...friendly and the owners charming. What you get at very sensible prices is an honest French meal without frills. There is a large outside eating area under large umbrellas as well as an extensive inside eating area. In the height of the summer booking is a sensible precaution. Nothing is fancy about this place from the basic tables and chairs to the simple building and the close proximity to the camp site and the swimming pool. BUT do not let that put you off. I always leave with a smile on my face having been well fed. On this occasion I had the grilled gambas with tagliatelle. My wife had a warm goats cheese salad. Everything was very well cooked and presented. Nearly everybody else at the restaurant was French - and that should tell you a great deal. The owners will have a crack at talking English if you are struggling with the French. All in all well worth while for a simple pleasing meal. Would I go again? YesMore

This restaurant is clearly not top end. They're also not trying to be. It's a place to get good food, nice service and a relaxed environment. We'll certainly be coming back here in the future.

Ate at this restaurant on a local recommendation, it's located near the river and camp site. Looks a bit rough and ready and was told that it was basic French food, which is an accurate description. Nothing much else was open in Jarnac due to...the season and the hour. Near a carpark so ample parking. Lots of French families eating here. Staff were very helpful, when we got stuck with an order, excellent English was spoken by one staff member. Service was very quick; ordered a pizza, one main and one salad with soft drinks and wine. Food came as large portions but was only mediocre in standard and taste, not really up to the standard we'd been getting elsewhere in France and not really great value. If you are after a quick meal in a location close to the river might be worth visiting but would not recommend.More

We wanted to have a simple evening meal and then the Prairie is very suitable to go with friends. We were with 5 and luckily placed at a round table which is always nicer. There is a lot of choice on the menu, weather a...menu for a very reasonable price (16 euro's for 3 courses in the evening) or a la carte. (meat/fish/pizza's) The 2 mademoiselles who served us were very friendly and tried their best to talk English to our Dutch friends since they don't speak French. The dishes we had were, Charentaise Melon (without the cured ham), avocado, charcuterie, Confit de canard, Steak, Skewer with tuna and swordfish with a lovely cooked rice, Spare-ribs, Ile flottante, ice-cream, mousse au chocolat. Since lot's of restaurants, even in high season, are closed in the evening, this one is a good alternative if you live or stay nearby.More

Having been at the beginning of June with a group of 8 English friends we thought we would go back with a French couple, one of whom was born in Jarnac. Sometimes it is worth checking if a Frenchman agrees with the assessment of an...Englishman! Thankfully our French friends though it was honest French home cooking. The menu does not seem to change so what they do they do well and consistently well. Don't expect Michelin style food. This is good sized portions of food well cooked and at very reasonable prices. The staff and charming and will at least make a half decent stab at English to help you out! We went for a mid week lunch and the place was packed, though a few tables were still available. Would I go again? Most certainly.More

Eight of us went for lunch on a Thursday. We sat outside. The owner and the serving staff are really extremely friendly and attentive. It is lovely to sit outside but perhaps, the views are not the greatest (car park and swimming pool). If you...are staying at the adjacent camp site or have tied up at the quay this is a very convenient restaurant. There is nothing pretentious about this place or the food that it serves. The prices are more than reasonable. Our three course lunch with jugs of wine and with coffee came to 20 euros per head. Very reasonable. The food included duck and minute steak and was beautifully cooked. Great chips and child friendly deserts! Would I go again? Yes, great fun.More

A phone call from Caroline at Hotel Ligaro got them to accommodate our need for a 2 o'clock feeding. We are having trouble adjusting our American hunger to the French clock. But, they served us a couple of nice salads that really hit the spot.

Arrived late at the Marina so went to eat quite late. This was the only place open at 9pm and it was located on a campsite on the edge of the town. The food was OK and the service good but later in the week...found better options in the town centre when we were able to eat much earlier.More
