The cannery has it all. A great vibe, good food and service. Although we did go with our children for a relatively early friday night dinner - this place would be fabulous for an adult only meal. We ordered a lot of food but the...risotto and the creme brulee were extra ordinary. Our server was patience and prompt and was helpful with the ordering. All in all if you are in new port beach this is a must visit.More
Went to this establishment with my son and one of his buddies. The food and service was superb! My son a tasty pork chop, while his friend and I had the dinner special which consisted of a black cod sea bass topped with crab….delicious! Can’t...wait to return!More
Incredible Thai themed black codfish entrée. Excellent wine selections. Service was friendly and attentive. Request outdoor table on the dock.
Had the best time Certain menu items 1/2 price loved thee sushi rolls great drinks $2 off lots of fun
The food was decent but not exceptional and the service was indifferent. Not bad by any means but not as good as expected. The halibut fish and chips seemed to be prepackaged and not that good, but the sea bass was excellent.
The food is top notch and overall service is good. Three things to be ready for. Reservations needed main restaurant downstairs. They get booked up. Upstairs is a bar restaurant with open seating. No server wait list. A few vultures will swoop in and hover...over a table and don't respect idea of first come first served. Our waiter had to be asked three times for water. It never came. Daughter went to bar and got water. Sushi was enjoyed by daughter and a friend. My wife and I split a steak and crab ball appetizers. They are NOT classic crab cakes. Well made, tasted great, sauce is perfect. Call them crab puppies because they resemble hush puppies.More
Once again an exceptional evening out. Drink at the upstairs bar first. (If you can get a seat at the counter then eat here if there is only two of you. Very lively). We then went downstairs to our table. Still good atmosphere but more...subdued. Food outstanding. Great sushi for starters followed by lobster rolls. Good cocktails/wine. Service great. It unlikely you will get a bad experience at this place. Consistently delivers.More
The Cannery just keeps getting better. We ate here two years ago for a graduation dinner for our son who is a Chapman Graduate and we were very pleased. This visit we expected to be a little different with COVID restrictions, but our waiter, Justin,...made the experience a treat once again. We started with specialty cocktails and a bottle of Cakebread. The Baked Peruvian Scallops were baked to perfection. They are delicate medium scallops and not the East Coast larger Scallops that you might expect, but you won’t be disappointed. The presentation was perfect and natural, served in the shells and topped with tobiko and lime. The fried calamari was fresh and served with a smokey tasting cocktail sauce, which was different from the norm. The Chilean Sea Bass was delicate, seared and sautéed nicely, served over a tomato chili pepper sauce with rice and chorizo, avocado purée and small grilled asparagus. My wife ordered the Lobster tails and they were very nice South African tails with sweet potato gnocchi and root vegetables. The chicken was a strong dish with a Smokey finish to the glaze. Justin suggested desert, which we couldn’t pass up; Chocolate Lava Cake with Pistachio ice cream and Bananas with chocolate ganache toffee with vanilla ice cream. After dinner drinks were Lemonchello!!! Grazi, Justin for all your help with the menu, great suggestions and service! The Cannery does not disappoint for the second time!More
We truly enjoyed our family dinner at this crowded, lively restaurant with our young adult kids, but there were actual children there, too. Our waitress was extremely helpful, efficient and prompt. We ordered shrimp cocktail, fried calamari, chowder, two lobster pastas, Kung pao chicken, and...the mahi mahi sandwich (the fries were sublime). The molten cake dessert was delicious. All the food was fresh and well seasoned. The bill was high, but not outrageous. A good value, at the higher end of the price spectrum. Cheers!More
My wife and I are retired. It was way too noisy for us. The crowd is younger and they seemed to love it. The menu did not match what my wife saw online so she was disappointed that she couldn't order what she wanted. I...thought the prices were a little too high for what we got. It's been only 4 days since we were there and I can't even remember what we ordered. We were underwhelmed by the whole experience. I won't be going back. Too many other better choices.More
We love this restaurant. Probably celebrated more anniversaries here than anywhere else. BUT, what a huge disappointment on Mother's Day. First, they told me it would be their normal menu. Instead, they had a special menu with fewer selections at 3-4X the price. After a...reasonable wait for a table, we had to wait over 90 minutes for our main entry. My advertised "boring scrambled eggs" were over-rated...they were horrible, bacon was burnt, the English muffins would break a tooth. Total cost $240 for a lousy meal.More
Food is usually pretty good. Typical New Port Hang out.. expensive drinks and lots of fake boobies/cougars lurking
We liked the food, all dishes were well prepared. For a seafood restaurant I believe the entre list is too small. We also felt a bit more social distancing should have taken place. Overall food and service were good but may not return based on...the entre list. I also did not care for the $6 valet charge to park in the restaurant lot.More
Came here for a birthday celebration dinner and had a wonderful dinner. The view of the bay is spectacular. We all shared dishes starting with the clams, calamari and amaebi (sweet shrimp with tempura battered heads) followed by the lobster pasta and fish & chips....The clams couldn’t have been better and we soaked up every last drop of the sumptuous garlicky sauce. The sweet shrimp were nicely prepared and the heads perfectly fried. The calamari were ok; not the best but still very good. The lobster pasta was excellent with a very generous amount of lobster meat. The fish & chips were some of the best we’ve eaten. The fish was fried to perfection with no hint of grease and the fried were nice and crisp. They treated us to a wonderful dessert compliments of the house for my birthday. Service was beyond expectations. Superb!! A wonderful dinner and highly recommended.More
