Charcoal Grill is difficult to rate. After reflecting on our recent experience I really can’t give it more than 3 points.
Although there is a QR code displayed outside the front door, we were not asked whether we had used it. The welcome was rather...cold. We were two couples and were seated on a tiny table that would have been big enough for two, crammed into a corner of the downstairs dining area. The service was prompt and friendly.
The steaks were good, and were grilled well but I’ll say that I had juicier Porterhouse steaks elsewhere. If you consider what you get for your money, the value is quite disappointing. 500g of excellent quality porterhouse cost approx $30-35 at the butcher. Cooking them really doesn’t take much skill, and hence ending up paying north of $90 is a bit steep. Four (4) leaves of cos lettuce and a small bowl of kraut salad plus a small serve of fries for four are not justifying the price.
The wine list has a good, albeit quite pricey selection of Australian, French and Italian wines, but the presentation (crumpled photocopies in plastic folders) is way below standard.
The Tiramisu was terrible, no coffee, no liquor, just mascarpone and sugar on a tiny layer of biscuit. The Affogatos were as expected.
The bottom line is that you pay a big premium for not much culinary skill or atmosphere.
For the same money you get a much better experience elsewhere.More
