Food and service were great, nice and informal atmosphere. It's a good place to eat some tapas and drink some regional wine.

The staff was great! We were not able to eat inside the restaurant due to Covid rules so they brought an extra table outside for us. The tapas were excellent and the quality of the food for the price was very good. I recommend to...give this restaurant a try!More
Good food and appropriate amount. Would recommend the chorizo and the mushrooms. Passion fruit sangria was perfect!!
Carlos was a perfect host. Happy and very cheerful. He recommended to taste the squid which was delicious - the best of the tapas we had. All four of us enjoyed the food very much.
Don’t be put off by the position - next to a building site - this is an awesome place. I came here last year and as soon as we came back I made a beeline to bring my wife and show how good it is!...It didn’t disappoint - I actually think the octopus here is the best I have tasted anywhere. We ordered 3 (shell)fish dishes and a bottle of vinho verde for lunch. The cod fish cakes were a little dry - and could do with a ‘dip’ but the squid was absolutely fantastic. The total cost was less the 30€ for all of that for 2. Brilliant service, ambience, food and wine!!!More
The taste is absolute amazing! The location is central and the crew is professional and very friendly.
We were not very hungry and with some craving for Caldo Verde and we found that and much more in O Tabernão. We had one Caldo Verde, some mushrooms with chestnuts (just great) and one Alheira, and everything was really tasty. Although we had enough...we tried the cheesecake which was a diferent type of cheesecake and it was awesome. Although we were just two of us, it was a nice meal, and I think it is a good option for groups also.More
It’s a great place to lunche or dinner! The food is delicious and full of flavor... the amazing variety of food is quite remarkable!! If u come to Viana, you need to come to Tabernão...😍
If you don't want to queue then be there at opening time. Small family run tapas restaurant. Authentic Portuguese cooking. Menu on wall in Portuguese but ask for the English and work out today's choices. Lovely food and staff who are hectic. Many big parties...of locals. Bock beer light or dark. This is a must to visit.More
I deliberately came here for a simple local lunch because of the reviews, and I wasn’t disappointed! Off the beaten track tucked away on a quiet side street, but when you get in there are lots of local customers, the Portuguese menu is across the...wall and the waitress speaks good English and you get an English menu - what’s not to like ! I got three seafood tapas dishes based on the waitresses suggestion plus a bottle of Vinho verde - The sardines and octopus was lovely bit the raw cod salad was not to my liking ( but you got to try new things!) The whole meal came to just under €25 which was very good value and about the cost of the main meals on the Main Street. Fully recommendMore
Searched a restaurant off the tourist area. Entire menu on the wall in Portugese. With the owners broken English and my Spanglish we were able to order our best meal In Viana so far! Don’t tell them but the best bargain as well. 25€ per...couple wine, 5 dishes and desserts . Run to this place and say hola to Carlos tell him the Xmas man from NYC sent you.More
Delicious portuguese food, good wine and cheap price. The restaurant environment was friendly and the waitress was very attentive.
Amazing hidden little gem of a restaurant found from Tripadvisor. Very friendly staff, excellent food. Went there as a couple on our first night in Castelo, ended up taking 8 people on our second! It's that good!!!
Down a little side street with an unassuming frontage. Very well used by local families, in my opinion always a good recommendation! I had Salmon steak, Peter had beef steak... both cooked as required, with a change of ‘as per menu’ accompaniments... so hand cut,...twice fried chips! Gorgeous! Simple but fresh and tasty salad. The pudding was a home cooked chocolate tarte with ice cream?.. I shouldn’t have but did! I was not only disappointed only that I really should not have. Portions in this restaurant are ‘robust’!More
We found O Tabernau via TripAdvisor - Viana isn't great for choice of restaurant! O Tabernau is a local gem - super friendly staff found BBQs us a space despite it being a packed Saturday night (if you arrive after 8 be prepared to wait)....The menu is a vast list of fresh tapas and exceptionally good value - we had 5 dishes, a glass of wine and an Ice tea for less than 25 EUR! It is definitely not fine dining but it is local, tasty and the atmosphere is great.More
