I have been eating at Deer Garden for years, both eat-in and take-out, and I simply love the menu. Food is always tasty and prepared fresh, and never diappoints.
This place is on saint-Laurent - right next door to the Monument-National: Salle Ludger-Duvernay where many plays, operas, etc are mounted. So it is close to the action. and a very solid, simple restaurant with all the standard dishes. We had the seafood nest, orange chicken,...ginger beef and cashew pork...all very good. The customers fill out the chit for the cook and payment is by cash only - no cards or interact. But fast, good service and reasonable prices. Also it is BYOB place so come with a bottle of whatever you like.More
Jardin du cerf was a pleasant warm surprise on a very cold evening. This BYOB Asian restaurant is on the opposite side of the lion gate entrance to Chinatown on St. Laurent Blvd. Service was friendly and quick. We were two and enjoyed our own...beer with a starter of delicious dumplings and peanut sauce. We both chose the table d'hôte that included the best wonton soup I have every experienced. The spring roll came with delicious fried wonton which tasted less oily than the spring roll. My guest ordered shrimp in lobster sauce and I ordered ginger beef. Both came with rice and vegetables. The plates were hot, the food was ample & fresh and everyting was delicious! Would I return?...in a minute!!!More
I enjoyed a good meal with friends and family at The Deer Garden. I really like the bring your own wine/beer concept. It's very popular on weekends so make reservations to avoid the line-up.
The ginger chicken was superb and the service quick and friendly! Street parking is not hard to find within a few minutes walk.
Wanted to order food for a late night work session - all of the beef and chicken meals came without any rice!!! I though maybe i had missed it when ordering but it doesn't say anywhere the the rice should be ordered separately. Plus, the...food came without utensil or napkins. For the price of the plates, would not recommendMore
Great chinese food ! I worked in the area for years and went hundreds of times. Their ginger chicken is amazing although the most popular dish is their General Tao. Lunch will cost you about $13. Bring your own wine. Eat and enjoy !
I never get enough of this spot... delicious every time. The ginger chicken orange beef, staples... love love love... yum
The first sign of trouble was when we walked in & the staff looked at us then looked away. We then sat ourselves. The second sign was when the waitress gave us a piece of paper & pen, then walked away. My wife was nominated...to be the waitress & she wrote our orders down. The real waitress poured us tea & took the paper. No communication. Besides tea, my daughter wanted a soft drink so we got it ourselves but it wasn't until we started to pour ourselves water from a pitcher, then the waitress helped us. We ordered dinner special of seafood combo. It was supposed to be Lobster, shrimps, scallops & cuttlefish. No lobster, it was imitation crabmeat. 1 shrimp & 1 scallop. The scallop was cut in half to make 2 paper thin slices. Oh and 4 pieces of rubberized cuttlefish. Alot of locals who were used to this type dining were there. It was the least expensive meal we had in Montreal however if you are on vacation = Stay Away. There are better places in ChinatownMore
Nice simple decor, clean, fast and respectful service. Prices are pretty low for the high quality of food. Nice portions. Fresh and well balanced spices.
Went here for a late meal and was quite impressed. Had the fried salt and pepper tofu, the ma po tofu, and the fish hotpot. The fish in particular was excellent. Maybe a bit too much corn starch in the ma po tofu sauce tho....You can bring your own outside wine.More
My mother has been taking me here for years (since the age of two) and it has managed to stay consistent with its flavours and AMAZING won ton noodle soup! Love the simplicity and comfort of this spot and being able to bring your own...wine is an added bonus. A must try in Chinatown!More
The facade kinda looked appealing to me as I had been passing by the restaurant more than 5 times in my vacation. So on the last night of my vacation, I decided to try out the food. I came in; the ambiance was good. I...was walked thru a small table - small, as I was alone. After a couple.of minutes, the lady came with a chinese tea, the menu, and the order paper AND a pen! Didnt say a word and off she went back inside the kitchen! My initial reaction deep in me was, "What the heck! Am I writing my own order???" Since it was my first time and I was super hungry, then I was obliged to write my own order. It was a bit cold and rainy so I ordered a corn and egg soup, friend shrimp, and seafood friend rice. After about 5 minutes, the soup came first. It was hot and visually appealing with spring onions on top of it. I thought to myself, "perfect for this cold weather!" However, when I tasted it, I was like, did they run short of salt??? I had to mix it with the soy sauce on the condiments tray on the table!!! I was a bit disappointed right from the start. It didnt take long for my seafood fried rice to come. The fried rice was enormous!!! The serving was too much for a single person! The friend shrimps? I wont elaborate on it... Frustrating. I ended up eating about 5 spoons, have the food packed, paid the $28 bill with a $2 tip, and off I went out. I will NEVER go back to that restaurant. Nor will I recomment this! It didnt have a good value for my money. P.S. They packed my leftover food to-go without any plastic spoon and fork inside the bag!More
The food was freshly prepared and good. The restaurant offers delivery through several online services but also has take out and eat in.
