Glad we made a reservation as the restaurant was turning away those who did not have a reservation when we arrived. Cute little restaurant that has more tables than you would think when standing at the front. Friendly service. Really enjoyed the schnitzel. You also...get a soup or salad included with your entree. Good value.More

For the past 27 years Amadeus has always been our go-to place for celebrating anniversaries and birthdays. Tonight will be the last time! Prices are still reasonable but the quality has gone down. As appetizers we got the smoked salmon and pretzel with sausage. The...smoked salmon was just a pile of fish with four capers sprinkled over top. No bread or Melba toast served with it as done in the past. When we asked for bread we were told they no longer serve bread. No potatoe salad as stated in the menu. The pretzel tasted like it was microwaved, and very salty. Sausage was room temperature served in tepid water. We ordered goulash soup and were told they didn't have enough meat to be able to offer it. We could however order the goulash main dish which we did as well as a schnitzel in a peppercorn sauce. The snitzel was thick and swimming in the sauce but had decent flavour. The goulash however had no flavour and the meat was so dry it was like sawdust. We've ordered this many times and never tasted anything like this. When we complained, the Manger stated that it was too bad we ordered something we didn't like and insisted that the recipe had not changed since they have been in business. Not true! We have ordered this many times and never had an issue. To top it off, the gluhwein tasted like a bad red wine that was heated in the microwave with no hints of spice. So disappointing! With all the issues or conerns we experienced, there was no apology from our server or who I can only assume the manager. They were very condescending and didn't offer anything to rectify the situation. I've always had good food and great service up until tonight and hope this was just an off night, but judging from the other recent reviews, I'm questioning if I'll ever go back.More

My family and I have been coming to Amadeus for over 20 years . We almost always take our family , visiting from New York. They have always loved it and we have written very positive reviews about the restaurant in the past. However ,...we went for dinner with relatives over the recent Thanksgiving holiday and to be honest, it was a little bit disappointing. While prices are up like in all restaurants , the portions are smaller . In addition, they don’t serve any bread , or even crackers with the soup. When my Brother-in-law asked for bread , or crackers with his goulash soup, they waitress said that they no longer have any in the restaurant. The quality of the food was as good as ever and we can understand the higher prices due to inflation, but reducing portion sizes and eliminating items that you have offered for 25 years, does not make a lot of sense. Sorry to write this review, as Amadeus has always been one of our favourite restaurants and we hope it’s not taking a step in the wrong direction.More

we had a nice dinner with extended family. but..........have noticed a decline in some of the food details. carrots which used to be lovely, garlicky and substantial.......tonight got 3 bland plain carrots. Jägermeister schnitzel had minimal (yet fresh and delicious) mushrooms, certainly didnt look like...their photo on this page. hopefully management takes noteMore

INEPT. Went for dinner with a reservation. Showed up on time. Waited half hour from time of arrival to seating and then receipt of menu. Attempted to order four different dishes from the menu only to be told each time the food was not available....They had no potatoes, no chicken, no beef ! Management response is Sorry it’s Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest has existed since 1820. This business claims to have been successful since 1992. Therefore it is presumably their 31st Oktoberfest, yet they do not have the management skill to gauge the season and check their reservation numbers to have the wherewithal to have potatoes, chicken and beef as shown on their menu. Pathetic.More

We made this the site of a reunion and a commemoration. Three of us spent two semesters at a German university many years ago; the fourth member of our group recently died. Amadeus, with its German cuisine and German beer on tap, was the perfect...place. My Kasseler was excellent, so was the Black Forest cake. An excellent evening that ended too soon: by 8:30 the place was empty. Wouldn't happen in a big city.More

There is a very nice beer garden, not in bloom just yet. Unfortunately our group didn't really like the German beer. The restaurant is nice, larger than expected. The food was good but remember it is a German menu, but with lots of options. Everyone...was happy with their choice. Prices were good. I'm just not a big fan of German food but glad I tried it.More

This restaurant has the best German food I've ever had in all of North America. The dishes are absolutely authentic German cuisine and they have an extensive selection of German wines and beer (the Schöfferhofer is my favourite). Whenever we're in Kingston we always have...at least one meal here. Attentive service, comfortable atmosphere, and the prices are reasonable.More

Dropped in and ordered four dinners for take away. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. We were told the order would be ready in 15 minutes. So went for a short walk and returned 15 minutes later to our order. The schnitzel was fantastic...as was the spaetzle. Make sure you get the german salad you won’t regret it. This was a wonderful home cooked meal.More

We had the the loveliest time at Amadeus last night. We were fortunate to get a very last minute reservation for 4 to celebrate our 44 wedding anniversary with our closest friends and we were not disappointed. The food was wonderful, chef Brian is amazing...in the kitchen. Susan our hostess was so warm and friendly and accommodating. The two new servers were friendly and learning on the fly and did an outstanding job. We look forward to our next visit.More

Amadeus is a sweet, small restaurant with the best background sound track in town. The food — Viennese schnitzel, sausages, spaetzle, etc — was excellent and the service professional and personable. I was in Kingston for two nights; after my experience at Amadeus the first...night, there was no reason to try anything else.More

I’ve eaten here several times and have never been disappointed (various schnitzels and Hungarian goulash). Finally persuaded my wife last night and she was very pleased with her Jäger Schnitzel. My Wiener schnitzel also good: thin, finely battered, tasty and hot. Spaetzle very good and...filling. Just what we wanted/needed on a dreary late afternoon/evening. Service was friendly and attentive. All in all a good meal in a nice decor, if a bit cold with only three couples in the place. What was missing was a fireplace with a roaring fire to make us feel like we were somewhere in the Austrian alps or deep in the Black Forest.More

I've dined here a few times (and will definitely go back again). They prepare the tastiest, real German food I've had in years. Their Schnitzels can't be beat! Veggie sides are always al dente and flavourful, and their soups are warming and delicious, especially on...a cold day. Service is always great, too! Plus the prices are quite reasonable.More

My husband and I planned to have our date night here last week; we have gone before and loved the food. When we showed up there was confusion over our reservation as our table had been given to someone else (we arrived 5 minutes early...so it was not because we were late). It wasn't a big deal, a bit annoying, but nothing to get worked up about. However, after we were seated we waited another 15 minutes with no service. No one even spoke to us. We were not given water, told someone would be with us shortly or acknowledged in any way. So we left. Wonder if they even noticed? Needless to say we were extremely disappointed.More
