This campsite is right next to the Faxi waterfall which is beautiful! When you pull in, you will be greeted by a guy who is there to collect money for parking but just tell him you’re there to camp and he will send you down the road to the restaurant which is where you will pay, make sure it’s before 9pm because they close then! Simple bathrooms and running cold water. Make sure to walk to the waterfall, grab a cookie or meal at the restaurant Vid Faxa. I’m so glad we found this hidden gem right off the Golden Cirlce!
The best way to find this campsite is to find the waterfall Faxi. This seemed to be a pretty popular place as we were pulling out the following morning. We arrived just before dusk so it was pretty empty, only one other camper there with us. We parked our campervan just beside a table and set up for the night. The campsite does have bathrooms with a place to wash dishes and seems to be kept up relatively well. We were interrupted around 8:30-9:00 by the lady who came down to collect the money for the sight. It cost us 1,200 ISK per adult and our 9 year old son was free. Other than the waterfall at the site there is a restaurant but it was closed while we were there.
We spent one night here in our campervan. We had some trouble finding the campsite as the signage wasn’t particularly prominent and there was no one else there. It’s signposted to the east of the roundabout with the filling station - so left going south and right going north and then it’s immediately on the right once you turn the corner. There were two big flat fields with hookups available. We had a walk through the village and there are grea views from the top of the hill. There is a filling station at the roundabout with a few essential Items. There is a swimming pool up the hill. The toilet block was newish and had toilets and basins but no showers. It was clean and tidy and had loads of hot water. A friendly lady appeared with the credit card machine about 9pm. Whilst we had the whole site to ourselves there were 8 tents the previous night. Apparently the site is used by Icelanders rather than tourists and can be very busy from mid June onwards We spent a very peaceful night and it was one of our favourites on this trip…
