With its sleek urban lines, distinctive design and prime location in San Francisco's centrally located Japantown, it's easy to see why the Kimpton Hotel Enso has an attraction all its own. Surrounded by the shops, boutiques, restaurants and festivals of this vibrant neighborhood, our San Francisco boutique hotel also puts you minutes from other top attractions like Union Square, the foodie-fave restaurants in Lower Pacific Heights and The Fillmore's jazz clubs.
Excellent location and family friendly. Beds and rooms were new and nicely furnished. Japantown amenities include easy groceries, fantastic food and shopping, and cheap parking. Easy to walk or uber to all attractions. Easy walk for breakfast options on Grove and Fillmore. We were visiting some family in town so a great place to stay if you rent a car. The mobility really was great for exploring the non touristy parts of town. Recommend taking a drive to the Legion of Honor area and doing Land's End while you are there.

The staff went all-out to anticipate and exceed our expectations. They memorized our names and our preferences and were able to do the same for all guests, given the comfy capacity of the property. Clearly management has trained all on customer loyalty. They've earned ours and our little dog's too!

Small profile beautiful rooms with immaculate pristine bedding and bath. Walkable to neighborhood shops and boutiques. Refreshing break from union square. The artful decor was unique, the staff very welcoming

Loved this modern boutique hotel - friendly staff and can-do service, Asian-influenced decor, and safe quiet neighborhood. Convenient location next to Japantown and near Fillmore Street, 1-2 blocks to many restaurants.

Overall this hotel was okay. A quick summary of the positives and not so positives: Positives: Location, big room, clever decor (cool blend of tech and old school), nice toiletries, yoga mat in room, lovely lobby, checked in late and was looking for bottled water (not already in room) - front desk brought up two bottles with no wait. Nice! Not so +: Fitness room - awful. Half the size of a hotel room. Stuffy, extremely limited equipment. Semi-plus was there was courtyard access from the fitness room so you could stretch outside. Restaurant not good. Felt like a quick service diner. Only had breakfast but oatmeal wasn't good. My room faced a day care/preschool. Fine at night but tried to work in my room in the morning. Lots of happy (insert screaming) kids playing…

Hi, there, Jana E, and thanks so much for staying with us! Your review was fun to read. I hope we will have the chance to see you again in the future. To that end... FYI the restaurant tenant here (Mums) is going to close for a short time this Fall when new management takes over and oversees a full remodel. We will see some updates to the dining room, service team, and the menu as well. I'm excited to say we've had the chance to consult on their new breakfast options, so we'll make sure to give them a heads up about your feelings regarding the current oatmeal. Also, if you come here during the renovation itself, fear not, as we are going to have a great local partner to provide breakfast-on-the-go-boxes with some gourmet flair... stay tuned! And in addition to the courtyard, keep in mind our bikes and yoga mats for more fitness options. The brave among us can also consider jogging the hills of SF... and if you do opt to use one of the four machines in the gym (bike, elliptical, or treadmills), keep in mind it is never stuff if you swing open the courtyard door. Make yourself to home :)!

We arrived a lot earlier than expected but were a ble to check in to our room right away. The room was qiuet and had plenty of space. The yoga mat in the room and complimentary wine tasting was a nice touch. I would stay here again if visting San Francisco.

My husband was in the hospital so I chose the Kimpton Buchanan because of its closeness to the facility. I felt very comfortable and safe staying there. The room was very clean, the restaurant was a nice extra so I didn't have to go out by myself and the staff was so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I will stay again if the need arises. ,

Thanks so much for the five-star review, Sally S! I hope that your husband is feeling very well and enjoying his own bed at home by now. I know the hospital is no place for quiet recuperation, even if it's one of the good ones! I hope we will have the chance to see you both back here again for more fun circumstances :).

Nice hotel and convenient hotel located next to Japan Town. Beds were comfortable and bathroom is a good size. Only complaint is plumbing was a little loud and can hear when room next door or above was turned on water.

Enjoyed my trip to the Buchanan hotel. I needed a few services (toothpaste, storing bags, no down blankets) and the stay was lovely and accommodating. I also really enjoyed the rooms - spacious, with a large selection of tvs, a yoga mat and simple but aesthetically pleasing decor. On my last work visit, I stayed at the Interncontinental in SOMA but really enjoyed moving to Japan town. Closer to food and felt safer wandering the streets as a solo female traveller. Highly recommend!

Great to hear, thank you! We are feeling pretty good about our recent move up the TripAdvisor ranks since we now sit above the Intercontinental for reviewer satisfaction in SF ;). A little friendly competition is a good thing, right??!!

I have stayed at the Kimpton Buchanan several times now and would happily return. The location is ideal for getting around the city, the service is excellent and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Would happily recommend the Kimpton Buchanan to anyone else traveling to San Francisco.
