We found this place by accident looking to stay in Montpelier area for one night on our way to Massachusetts. Well, this was magical! The location, view, building and the excellent attention provided my the owner Pierre were excellent. We could have stayed longer. Highly recommended.

I stayed at the Lodge a couple of years ago (in July 2021) and I thought that it was really delightful. I gave it five stars. For this trip there were no rooms available in the Lodge, so I stayed at the Couture Farm. I can't recommend it. The room was generally acceptable for a B and B, although three of the five lights, including the two on either side of the bed, didn't work. To anticipate Management's response that “You should have told us”, I respond: “One lamp maybe, but for three out of five? You should have known.” The bathroom, wedged into what was probably once a closet, was tiny but functional, much like the bathrooms at a Red Roof Inn. But the room wasn't really my problem. The Farmhouse itself was fairly unpleasant: dark and crowded with tired old furniture, and permeated with a pervasive, musty smell. Worse, there was a powerful odor of cat litter that had not been changed in far too long. The front porch was scattered with enough junk to make me wonder if I was at the right place when I arrived. The spider that I brushed off of my neck while I was sitting on one of the sofas didn't improve my mood, but it wasn't really the issue. It was the smell. I almost never give a place a one-star rating, but the pervasive, omnipresent stink of cat urine dragged this location from a two or maybe a three down to a one in my estimation. I have had cats before (note my picture on TripAdvisor...), but my house never smelled like this. This was special. On the plus side, it was quiet and the internet service was excellent. But if you are going to stay at Millstone Hill and you can't stay at the Barn/Lodge, give the place a miss. As for me, I won't go back.

I paid $185.00 dollars to stay in a room with dirty linen. Our friends were expecting a king size bed with Jacuzzi. The Jacuzzi bathroom was shared. Dreary place not cute at all just old and musty smelling. No TV. Bad lighting. They expected the other couple to stay in a room in their house with four cats and a dog!! Red flags!! We left losing money! Creepy as he'll. Really don't appreciate the reviews that clearly lied.

My wife and I are always looking for places that will make truly escaping from the noise of the city life a solid reality. The lodge is one of those places, and more. Felt like going back in time yet close enough to experience what Montpelier, Stowe and Burlington have to offer. The owner, Pierre, is one more reason for us to go back. A wonderful gentleman. 5 stars in every way.

We stayed just one night in this charming lodge. Our room (the Jennifer Crawford) was very comfortable and had a fantastic view over the fields and valley. It was a convenient location, but very peaceful. It was a quiet time of year, so we had almost the whole, homey place to ourselves. A taste of real Vermont.

My husband and I have traveled to Vermont countless times, but we've never...until now...had the pleasure of staying in such a wonderful place. We are both descendants of our grandparents all hailing from Canada, so staying at the Farmhouse was a beautiful visit to reminisce of our own grandparents' homes. It was like going back to "Memere and Pepere's home(s)." We never had the joy of meeting Frankie, but Pierre was warm and welcoming. Everything was extremely clean and every room was cozy...especially our bedroom. We are very early risers and prefer not to eat until we've been up for a few hours, so we did not take advantage of what Pierre was preparing. Leaving, we could see the preparations for homemade muffins. Such a quaint, homey feeling. Our experience began with relaxing o the front porch, eating our apples and enjoying the fresh air to later, relaxing in our room. There is no doubt that we will return - Paul and Glory Lavoie

The Millstone Hill Barn is fascinating. It is in an old barn that was apparently originally part of a dairy farm, about 40 miles from its present location. The barn was disassembled and moved and reconstructed, with the plumbing and electrical lines hidden in the interior walls and leaving most of the original wooden structure open. And the effect is absolutely wonderful. The rooms are on many levels, and they all boast flea-market antique furniture and open-beam ceilings. It really is a delightful hodge-podge of rooms up and down little stairs. There is a large number of mounted deer heads and animal skins on the walls, so if you are queasy about that sort of thing then you might want to think again before you stay there. But combined with the barn wood, they give the inn a wonderful feeling of an Adirondack lodge. The location is remote, probably a 10 to 12 minute drive from the nearest restaurant or bar in Barre, but it is near The Millstone Hill Touring and Recreation Center, a substantial hiking and reclaimed quarry center that I did not have an opportunity to visit. There is a variety of common areas on different levels, and an assortment of games for those who are interested. The many common areas allow for as much (or as little) privacy as one might wish for in order to read a book or play a game or just watch the Vermont sunset from the picture windows. There is also a full kitchen for the use of the guests, which makes up for the lack of coffee facilities in the rooms. I saw no televisions, so if you need your daily fix of cable news, you will likely be disappointed. The room itself was large, with a low, open-beamed ceiling and a king sized bed with a firm and very comfortable mattress. The shared bath was clean and up-to-date. Not all of the rooms have shared baths, but it may be something to keep in mind when you book. The only criticisms that I have might be that the carpeting in my room was worn and the inn's wifi was weak, but it was nothing that detracted from my stay. I would definitely return. I might even make it a special trip.

This place is a GEM. I stayed in the Jennifer Crawford room, which was comfortable and quiet and featured a nice private bathroom. The shower (something I'm a little picky about!) was great. Plenty of hot water and plenty of water pressure too. Cleanliness was top shelf. It was a business trip, so I really needed wi-fi and that worked perfectly. Did I mention the views? It was hard to get any work done with views like that. The entire scene - the renovated 1800s post & beam barn, the rolling hills and distant mountains looked like something out of a fairy tale. The morning breakfast was good too. Hot coffee, freshly baked muffins, fruit, yogurt, bagels - if you leave hungry, it's your own fault. The price was the cherry on top. It cost less to stay in this incredible B&B than in the local chain motels where you get 4 walls and pastel paint. I've stayed in B&Bs from Florida to Alaska. This is one of the very best and gets my highest possible recommendation!

Talk about a wow factor, as soon as you walk in you are overtaken by the quality of the building and the wonderful vaulted ceiling and picture window. The owners, Pierre and Francis are both very friendly and helpful and Pierre cooks a mean breakfast. We were lucky enough to be in the Jennifer Crawford room, on the ground floor, which is quite lovely with wonderful views. We were able to use the kitchen facilities, fridge, tea, coffee etc which was very useful. The building is beautifully decorated and maintained. The only negative we found was that the noise from the other guestroom shared bathroom extractor can was quite loud and intrusive. The only other negative, which I am sure might upset certain guests, are the numerous stuffed animal heads etc, hunting trophies which probably fit in well with the ambience of the property but will not be too everybody's taste. If this is not a problem to you then I could not recommend this place highly enough.

We had the good fortune to have held our 50th high school reunion here. We chose this place because most of our classmates still live in the area of where our high school was. The individual rooms at the two separate buildings (Barn and Lodge) were so unique, taking you back in time. The owners, Frankie & Pierre are local, and actually went to the same school too, which made it even more special. They are so accommodating in every way to make your stay special. A huge perk was the delicious breakfasts that Pierre made for us!
