I had never been to Bruny Island before & as soon as got on Sealink with my car, I knew instinctively this was the place for me Mavista Cottage or Honeycomb Cottage as it is known, was off the beaten track, just what I wanted, I had really good instructions how to get there & as soon as I came onto the road with dense forest, & local wildlife I felt settled. Its a lovely cosy cottage. wonderful warming fire with wood supplied, organic vegetable garden & my hosts were around if I wanted to chat. When it came time for me to go I really didnt want to leave
We stayed here for 2 nights in April and completely enjoyed it. This is a quiet and well situated accommodation on Bruny and satisfied all our requirements. The cottage was nice and woody, with a good fire heater and the expected amenities all functioning. Our hosts, Ann and John, were friendly and helpful. Ann went out of her way to sort out some issues with our booking arising from a family bereavement. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Drive slowly, very slowly, in the forest to keep down the dust and avoid injuring the wallabies. There are several albino "wallys" in the area. Tony and Elly.
The cottage provides a quiet retreat with lovely views of farmland and across to the ocean. Thanks to John and Anne for their care - home baked bread delightful - John for your knowledge of the area for walking tracks.
The cottage itself was very good, self contained, a few klm away from other houses, and hence there was plenty of wildlife, especially kangaroos' such as the white (almost albino) Bennett's Wallaby. There was also plenty of birds. However, when we arrived, we found that, despite having booked the cottage over 6 months ago - there was someone else in the cottage - it had been double booked. Anne 's Husband, said that this happened because Anne is so busy with other interests. Anne talked about the difficulty of recording who had booked!! They did give us a $50 refund for having to go away whilst they re-organised their their other visitor to leave the cottage, and clean etc. (they where friends of the manager, Anne). The cottage itself was very nice, but the bed was a little bit soft in the middle for my liking, although I it wasn't bad enough to affect my sleep. If you like a soft bed, it shouldn't be a problem for you. If you do want this property, I would double check, a couple of days before hand, that they where expecting you.…
We booked Mavista Honeycomb Cottage as it was on South Bruny and close to Adventure Bay but secluded enough to be nice and quiet. The forest around and the walks were stunning. It was close handy to an assortment of nice eating places and drives over the range to the west coast. The fire and everything else was stunning. Highly recommended.
