Little Haven Hotel stands out for its prime beachfront location, appreciated by guests for scenic views and leisure opportunities. The cleanliness of the hotel and its rooms earns high marks, contributing to the property's warm and welcoming atmosphere. While opinions on value and service are mixed, with some concerns about varying costs and inconsistent service experiences, the range of amenities largely satisfies visitors. However, some guests have experienced disturbances due to noise. Rooms are generally well-regarded, although a few could benefit from an update.

Wifey & I stayed for a long weekend and can’t say too much about the hotel and the soooo friendly staff !!(Dom you know who you are !!…lol)..yes, the rooms are a little tired and yes it may need an update but these have all been covered in previous reviews BUT the room & hotel was SPOTLESSLY CLEAN, fantastic service whether it was from the receptionists or bar man or waitresses or even down to the young lad looking after the grounds outside in all weathers. The food was excellent, again, whether it’s an evening meal, breakfast or even a snack in the lobby. We’re frequent visitors to the North East and have stayed at the Little Haven many times and we will definitely be back and look forward to the changes we know re coming. Please…if you ever need to stay somewhere in South Shields, sit and watch the ships going up & down the Tyne this is the place….good luck to all concerned for the future and we’ll be back !

I have been going to Littlehaven Hotel for many years and for many years I have felt it was in need of an upgrade. I came for food recently because I hadn't been in a while and heard it was under new management. I guess it will take a while for the new management to get things sorted and it's early days, but I really hope that they do. For far too long, this hotel has rested on its laurels of a prime location and great view, but it no longer can, as there are just too many things wrong with it now and the prices are just not justified, which is why I haven't stayed in the actual hotel this last year. The food is mediocre, there are not enough staff, the conservatory is not a restaurant, at best it's just a second rate cafe. It took an hour to clear my table, which is just not acceptable. The staff were pleasant enough and were working hard, but there are clearly not enough of them. The whole building is stuck in a time warp and has never been upgraded. The thing that shocked me the most though is the scruffy floors and toilets and muck under fixtures. As I stood at the pay desk looking around, waiting to be served, I noticed the fixture to the right of the kitchen door, underneath it was scruffy, then I started taking a good look at the cleanliness in general and it wasn't great, including the toilets, which were grubby and didn't smell great and you could tell the doors hadn't been wiped recently. I really do think this could be tackled now, for little cost and I certainly won't be going back until it is.

Good Afternoon, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We respect your comments and are aware of the changes which need to be made, many of which are in progress and some of which have already taken place, ie we have improved the kitchens to achieve 3 five star ratings and have taken the gas and electric bills from £52,000 per month to £13,000. There are many aspects of the hotel which need to improve but we are focused and are continually investing time, energy and money into the hotel in order to create a hub for the community and give them what they need and deserve. We appreciate your comments about it taking a while to make these changes, but please rest assured that major upgrades will be taking place. Meetings with the council have already taken place in regards to us investing 2 million pounds into 2 new restaurants for the hotel and adding a beach school for the children of the community. We have also recently employed 2 new cleaners and 2 new maintenance staff and are currently looking to employ more customer service staff, accounts, marketing, kitchen and restaurant staff. We aim to continually improve the hotel and create a place that the community can come to enjoy together. We hope you understand that in todays financial climate it will take time to make all of these changes and many many more, but we will achieve them. We hope to see you again soon. Kindest Regards, The Little Haven Hotel

Visited the boardwalk cafe with my family as a little get together (6 adults and 2 children). Having only 1 menu between the 8 of us I had to go up and ask for an additional one so that it would take us ages to pick what we wanted. One of the orders was for carbonara which stated on the menu that it came with either penne or tagliatelle pasta. Originally we didn't see this so we went back up to request tagliatelle to be told they only had penne, again was never told this when we ordered. I went to the bar to order 2 drinks to be told we had to use the bar in the lounge and when we did there was a sign to say it was closed. When I did eventually get somebody to come and serve us it had to be the slowest person known to man, baring in mind I only ordered a pint of coke and a fruit shoot. When we got our cutlery for the meal it only consisted of a fork and spoon, we had to go back up to get a knife. It was quite busy there but not mega busy and we waited nearly an hour for our food which is rubbish when you've got a 5 year old who's hungry. I ordered the fish and chips and the batter was thick and rock solid and the plate was swimming on grease, the chips were lovely though. The carbonara was completely dry and had absolutely no taste. All in all it wasn't the best visit and the communication between the staff was just horrendous. I won't be going back in a hurry

Good Afternoon Joanne, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear about your experience, however I can state that we are in the middle of recruitment and big changes are taking place within the hotel. We recently took over the hotel and are implementing a lot of changes, one of them being a new Italian chef, we are also investing 2 million pounds on two new restaurants based in the hotel, which is going through planning at present. We are also using Zenith training company to carry out training development for staff improvements. We would like to offer you a free meal after all of our new standards are implemented and get your feedback. Although we still provide a very good service and good quality food there are areas of improvement which I do agree need to take place sooner rather than later, and your feedback helps us with this. Although we have already have a lot of positive feedback, we also need constructive criticism so that we can continue to improve. Our new cakes and homemade scones have been going down a treat, so has our new improved fish and steak nights, we also think the Italian chef will be a great addition to our restaurant and hope you take us up on our offer once the changes are implemented. Kindest Regards, The Little Haven Hotel

Lovely hotel had an executive room with great views and a porthole. All the staff were very friendly. Our stay was a gift from son and daughter in law so was even more special. Nice to have breakfast included. Would love to stay again. Perfect for a nice stroll to ocean road.

Can’t believe how bad this place has got! We’ve been staying for nearly 20 years and this visit has to be the worst! Lights out in room OK one got fixedShaver light not working. Hole in the wall!! Most uncomfortable bed. could feel every spring in it! Wants chucking! Base of bed sticking out so you keep banging your leg. THE worst breakfast ever! Scrambled egg grey and rubbery. Sausages more cereal than meat in them. Water not hot enough to make tea. Half the staff look miserable and directionless. Never used to be like that. Since it changed ownership it’s We certainly missed Alison this time! We had 3 nights booked for May which we’ve just cancelled. Makes me really sad as it’s been my second home for years. If it’s going to have a refurbishment it needs to happen now!! Prices are rising and it’s just not worth the money. Have booked another hotel which is 4 star for May and it’s £70 cheaper!

Dear Janet, Thank you for your feedback. I can confirm that the hotel is getting an uplift. At present there have been several meetings which have taken place with the local authority in regards to planning. I can also confirm that we have two maintenance staff, newly appointed, to carry out all maintenance needs. I can also confirm that if we were made aware of any complaints in regards to your stay at the time, that we could have been proactive in resolving them. In regards to breakfast, I personally have my breakfast at The Little Haven Hotel and have never experienced the issues you described. We have received glowing praise as you can see from our other reviews and actually received awards for our breakfast, which has not been changed at all. We also received no negative feedback from any other guests this day so are puzzled as to why just your portion was affected. We have never in our 10 months of owning the hotel received a complaint of this nature and cannot help but think that the claims are exaggerated and false, with an emphasis on loyalty to the previous owner/staff. We endeavour to make the hotel outstanding, we took over the hotel 10 months ago and have had to put many, many changes in place before even starting to renovate. Please note that the previous owners owned the hotel for 28 years, we have had 10 months to turn around a failing business and our priorities have been ensuring that the kitchens reach three 5 star ratings, we are also investing 2 million pounds on 2 new restaurants. We have spent most of this time working with the police through deception, fraud and theft regarding previous staff. We had to deal with bailiffs in regards to unpaid bills left by previous owners and genuine staff that have been left disgruntled because of pension fraud. Our aim is to treat our staff with respect, reward good loyalty and to raise all standards throughout the hotel, we endeavour to work towards these standards which our track record proves we have always, previously done. Our future goal is to provide a beach school with a parent restaurant so all children can benefit from our community, raise standards and make the hotel an iconic feature of South Tyneside where all can be included. Unless we receive support and encouragement or genuine, helpful constructive criticism which we take on board to improve the hotel then please keep their unhelpful, inaccurate, false opinions to yourself and let us be judged over the next five years. Moving forward, if you have any genuine complaints, please come and speak to us directly and give us a chance to resolve them and put right any wrongs that there may be. This gives us the chance to learn and improve, we are not perfect and love the chance to create a better experience. However, we believe this is a disgraceful attempt at bullying and slander with an aim to bring down the hotel and the extremely hard working staff by publicly trying to cause damage to the hotels reputation through posting highly exaggerated and false statements which many may read and believe to be true, an easy way to destroy companies and individuals. In todays climate we should be standing together to support our local businesses who are creating jobs, opportunities and a hub for the community to come together rather than tearing them down. Regards, The Little Haven Hotel

The room was lovely. Have stayed in the room the last night of being single. All the girls came to get dressed with me. So an amazing memory. The views from both balconies are awesome. I did the next time, stay in the room for my 50th birthday party. So as a suprise for Valentine's my husband booked us in. Room fabulous as ever. We went down for dinner. Don't let the restaurant manager ruin your stay, like us. We left and went up into town.

We paid for bed breakfast and evening meal, being a special offer for February, we also paid extra for a junior suite. We clocked in and went to our room and as we had stayed in that room once before we were happy with the room and the view. We went for evening meal at about 7 20, arriving at the entrance I said to my partner how lovely the tables looked as they had white table cloths candles and petals it made me smile as it enhanced the atmosphere. But to my disappointment we were shown to a table for ten and put in the centre on our own with only cutlery before us. I was so upset! I said to the young lady that had shown us to the table that we could Not stay here as we felt like second class citizens. She went to speak to the lady in charge that told her to put us on another table which was a table for two but without the tablecloth and extras. If when you book you are made aware that something else was going on that’s fair enough but we weren’t and as we were there the weekend following Valentine for our Valentines special night it upset me greatly. Unfortunately it didn’t stop there we were given the menus and the young lady took our drinks order then twenty minutes lady no drinks had arrived, I asked my partner to go and ask at the bar for them but while he was there a young man delivered them. We sat having our drinks and waited and waited for our order to be taken, no one even looked our way to take our order! By this time I was just wanting to leave. I turned to the young lady who was at the till talking to the lady in charge and made a gesture with my hands to say were here have you forgotten us. The lady in charge asked he if she hadn’t taken our order as she said she had forgotten about us. What does that say! The lady in charge came over, didn’t say anything just took our order but not the one we wanted as by that time we were told there was none left. The food arrive a lovely starter and a very poor main course. We left and said put the drinks on the room number as after our main course once again nobody bothered to see if we wanted any sweet or another drink! We went to our room got ready for bed had a nightcap and got into the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in, the mattress was terrible, you could feel the springs and we both said the same “ What a terrible time we have had “ and so disappointing a this was our first Valentine together. We chose the Little Haven as we had stayed before and I love South Sheilds. What a nightmare it spoiled our whole Valentines weekend. I would not wish this to happen to anyone else. I informed the Events Manager the next morning, he said they had a meeting on the Monday and would let them know. No reply as yet!

Being a big Joe McElderry fan I have been staying at Little Haven hotel many many times in the past 14 years. Such a beautiful spot for a hotel. The staff have always been the best and the cleanliness and service is good. I do think it's time the bedrooms were refurbished. This last visit I felt there is a shortage of staff with those there under pressure, special shout out to Alison in the restaurant for her good service always being welcoming and kind breakfast times.
