This is an amazing place to camp for a few days while visiting NYC. Each space is big enough for 2 tents one large and one small. Each site is clearly labeled and has wood railing around your site which is perfect to dry your clothes. The view of the Hudson River and Narrows bridge is great. There are 2 outdoor showers that work great. Each day Ranger Kathy comes around with a wealth of knowledge and fun to talk to. She spends some time getting to know you and has recommendations for your visit. Minor downside is you do park on the street and bring your stuff into your site. Not far, but not used to not parking directly in your camp site. The site is close to the FREE Staten Island Ferry. Sit on the left hand side when going to NYC to see statute of liberty. You can ride the bus or drive to the ferry. We drove the days we were there. There is parking near the ferry if you get there early enough or you can park at the courthouse parking structure for $8.00 a day. If you are seeing a broadway show, I would recommend leaving before 6 am and parking next to the ferry. This lot primarily used for commuters does allow you 18 hours to park for the low price of $8.00 a day. While we were there, every site was very respectful to stay quiet during the night-standard campground noise applies such as snoring or people unzipping their tent to use the restroom. If you are looking for a low price place to stay and bringing a tent with you I highly recommend staying here. The price was around $30.00 a night.…
If you are looking to camp on Staten Island, head to Fort Wadsworth. You can camp in comfort with views of the greatest harbor in the world! The sites are maintained by the National Park Rangers and they are first rate.
Unfortunately they were unable to open the park on time and canceled my reservation at the last minute. The lady who called was very nice but it left me in quite a bind to have planned this trip for months and to have a key part of our trip fall apart. I probably won't try to stay there again. It seems like it would have been cool though.
When we booked here we figured it would either be a great find or a terrible mistake. We were pleasantly surprised with the orderly sites, fantastic views and proximity to the ferry to NYC. Nice outdoor showers, big bathrooms and wood brought to your campsite were also some pluses. While you don't park next to your site, it was otherwise a great experience and Ranger Kathy was super helpful and knowledgeable about the area. This was a great stay for us.
stayed for the maximum 14 nights in June 2016...there are 7 tent only sites (no RV sites)...your car is parked away from your site unless you take the one site near the parking lot...there are indoor restrooms and a shower area...there are good views of the Hudson River. There is a covered pavilion area and a covered gazebo. Each site has a fire ring with grill. All sites have a view of the Hudson River. The two sites closest to the river would be considered the best (shade for one site and near the gazebo for the other site.) The other 5 sites do not have any shade. Each site has a gravel pad - one large tent and one small tent is allowed per site. One car per site is allowed in the front parking lot.
