Very comfortable beds. I enjoyed the stay at the executive room. There is ample parking, free Wi-Fi, hot shower, nice view in the camping area for taking photos. Restaurant available too. The camp is within Embu town.
I've visited the Embu Scout Centre on 3 occasions (2007, 2009, 2012). It provides a range of rooms (4 bed [2 x bunks], twins, singles and just being built a block of doubles). The main block (twins/4's) are not en-suite and there are shared facilities. The singles are en-suite and the new double block will also be. They are cleaned mostly every day. The towel change and bedding change is a little hit and miss. Showers are basic, with an electircal heating element in the shower head, but suffice to get you clean. Food can be provided, although we found this less good this visit than previously. The chef however is willing to try and provide meals to your request if possible and within budget. The dining room is in the main block and adjacent to the kitchen. It is basic with table clothes being hit an miss. Water and milk are provided 'boiled' and you are advised not to drink the tap water. The centre is open to the public when not used by scouts, which doesnt seem to be that frequent. The staff, expecially the manager, are very friendly. The gates are secured at night and a 'guard' is on night duty. This is north of the town centre and is quiet. Within a 5 minute walk is the Isaak Walton hotel where you can enjoy the swimming pool, bar and more western food. It is about 10 minutes walk into Embu town. The mosquito nets have holes (so either bring your own or ensure you have insect spray and/or deet) and the beds have seen better days (A sleeping bag liner may also be a good idea!) If you are ok with very basic hostels then this will suffice for your stay in Embu (I paid 110 GBP for 8 nights bed, breakfast and evening meal)…
