Two hundred years of history await you at the Wayside Inn. Conveniently located in historic Ellicott City, Maryland, and within a short drive of either Baltimore or Washington, D.C., the Wayside Inn is the perfect place for you to escape to the past. A historic building providing modern amenities and fabulous, full breakfasts combine for an unforgettable escape.
So disappointing, nice location and property that needs attention. Stayed on "first floor" i.e. the basement. Walkway had 6 out of 10 lights out. Gardens are weeds. US flags, from July 4?, are disgraceful lying in the dirt walkway. Outdoor setting cushions are disgusting. Shower in dire need of mold removal. Sheets are "historic" i.e. very worn. Room needs DEEP clean. Breakfast was ok. Host was affable.

First and foremost, I am grateful that the innkeeper (I believe he goes by Joe) was so accommodating to my breakfast needs. I told him that I don't like sweet in the morning so he came up with a tasty savory breakfast of fried egg on toast, a cheesy casserole and bacon and sausage. I was happy to eat that both mornings we were there. The house itself is old (historic) so the large stairs are super creaky, but we stayed in the Betty suite on the top floor, where it was quietest. [This is not a house for people who have trouble with stairs.] I will say that the outside could use some attention; it looked a little unkempt. And yes the water during my shower suddenly got hot and then cold--understandable in an old house. However, overall the place was interesting and our bedroom "suite" was roomy. I didn't mind that we had to walk out of the room to get to our private bathroom, because a robe was provided. On the first night I thought the bed was a little too soft (personal preference) but on the second night it felt wonderfully comfortable. The temperature of the room was perfect also. I gather that Joe is a newer owner of the Inn and it is clear that he cares about the people who stay here!…

Location was reason for our 3-night stay, minutes from the event we were attending. The place definitely needs some TLC. Dead plants in planters on windowsills, decor had dusty, indiscriminate knick knacks, and the landscaping and grounds were unkempt, run down - not welcoming. Breakfast, which was good, was the same each day. Bed was comfortable, but when I looked for an outlet nearby to charge my phone, the floor near the headboard was very dirty.

Had a wonderful one-year dating anniversary stay with my partner. The owner, Joe, was very responsive to emailed questions before the stay. I booked Betty's Suite but Joe upgraded us for free to the Banneker Suite due to some lack of clarity on the website. Joe was flexible with check-in time, and efficient and friendly in getting us settled. Room was beautiful. Spacious and luxurious bathroom - LOVED the jetted tub. Mattress too firm for us, but we're very young compared to probably most people who stay in B&B's so we get it. Stairs creak super loudly so you can hear whenever people are going up or downstairs, but it is historic so what can you do. Joe cooked a really nice breakfast and kindly took many indoor and outdoor photos of us. Loved the stay, would visit again. Worth noting that we are a couple of two women and we felt perfectly welcome.…

I booked a room couple months in advance. However, when it was getting close the the date I booked, they sent me a cancellation notice without any explanation. I booked the room early on just so that I could make sure I will be able to have a place to stay. But, with their cancellation, I had to find a hotel room in a rush. Obviously, I will have to pay a higher price. Also, that made it so stressful for me. Anyway, with this experience, I highly recommend not to use this hotel. I totally recommend to say NO to this hotel.

The place feels like a home away from home. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Our room is nice and clean but needs a little refreshing. Breakfast is delicious. They were very accommodating to our needs throughout the stays and with visitors.

Overall, I think it's just a difference in decor preferebce-----the photos reflect a serene, calm, classy, elegant style for this INN. Reality is that this place "could be" and "may have been" all these things at one time, but now the overall look and feel of the house/rooms is one of clutter and chaos and knick-knacks.....a jumble of confusing items....Christmas decorations (left over in JUN.....or maybe early?).....stuffed animals, doilies, odd esthetics....as soon as I walked through the main entrance into the hall/lobby....I knew I wasn't going to be happy----clutter......overstimulating, not organized or streamlined...just......yuck.....if I thought I could get a refund on my $280 at that point, I would have most definitely bailed. The room had way too many pieces of chunky furniture in it.. and I felt the need to dust the furniture and scour the bathroom before I felt comfortable to stay......I know that sounds crazy, but that was the vibe......it's disappointing too because the house has really great bones....and the place could be a 5-star venue.......but right now, I just felt extremely unsettled there. There was a patio and a deck and porch furniture, but you couldn't really utilize those areas well because the cushions on the chairs were wet (rains a lot in that area, but what effort would it take to bring the cushions in if rain is forecasted?) and the chairs that didn't have wet cushions had bird poop on them..... The bed was very nice and the sheets were GREAT! But even the comforters/blankets were overly busy with a mix-match of design/fabrics..............I guess I just like clean lines and calm, soothing environments.....not confusing clutter. The workers/owners seemed kind enough.....the breakfast was nice. I think the owners may live there, so there is a bit of a conflict between....it being their home......and then being an INN......Of all the many reviews I see here of this INN, I seem to be in the minority with my feelings.......must just be a preference of mine to not appreciate the visual distraction of incongruent random items. Get rid of 1/2 the furniture and all the knick-knacks and you'd have a much more pleasing environment, in my opinion. They had a large kurig-type coffee machine on the 2nd floor.......but when we went to get coffee at 9am, there were no clean mugs (3 dirty ones) no spoons or stirrers.......just strange......coffee was served during breakfast, so that was appreciated.…

The highlight of our trip! A few things I must point out, The Wayside Inn is now under new ownership. Susan & David are no longer the propitiators. I met the owner, an unassuming man in the kitchen and shook his hand when I left. Joe is the manager and greeted us when we arrived on Saturday. I told him we have dinner and concert plans and would be back late. He gave us a through tour on how to use the fancy coffee maker, how to use the jacuzzi tub (we didn't us it) as well as the robes. What struck me the most was the branding. The robes as well as the beautiful coffee mugs all had a wonderful logo. Once we took our belongings out and settled into the room, we decided to enjoy the outdoors. My wife grabbed a beautiful blanket and we went outside on the roof deck. We're just taking it all in, I had a bottle of Napa Valley wine I brought from home for us to enjoy, it was really picture perfect. The actual inn is over 200 years old, one of the historic homes in Maryland now made for my enjoyment. Did General Washington sleep here? Inquiring minds want to know! The staircase was truly a sight to see. Made from wood, they crafted these beautiful wooden turns to the upstairs. Creaky wood? Sure. It gives the inn a comfortable charm. Our bedroom had a magnificent sleigh bed and the sheets? Joe was explaining to my wife the thread count. I'm a guy, I was tuning it all out, haha! After a comfortable night sleep, I woke up early. I'm an early riser, I made myself a great cup of coffee and went downstairs to read my book. The sitting area with it's beautiful furnishings, it's a welcoming room. Everything is meticulously cared for, it was a pleasure to have this moment alone and take it all in. After an hour, I went upstairs and took a shower. We have 8:30am breakfast reservations, I want to get on the road to beat the traffic. We were served a French toast bake, absolutely divine. When staying at any B&B, the shower products as well as the food should be top notch. Staying at the local Marriott doesn't give you the same experience. After breakfast my wife made us Dove Hot Chocolates as we packed up. I highly recommend The Wayside Inn. From the quaint accommodations to the fab breakfast, I thank you making our stay special.…

Lovely quaint hotel on a beautiful property. Easy check in and lovely old fashioned decor. I got a good night sleep and the gourmet breakfast was exquisite. The location is hard to see from the road but it is not far from downtown Ellicott City. Highly recommend this BandB!

My husband and I recently returned to the Wayside Inn (our first sty was in 2018) and we enjoyed it just as much! We stayed in the Margot Suite, which is small but very comfortable. The hostess was lovely, the inn is very comfortable, and the breakfast was amazing. We’ll definitely go back again.
