Conveniently located on Maryland's Eastern Shore between Chestertown and Rock Hall in Kent County, this lovely 18th-century manor home sits like a jewel on 12 manicured acres. The Chesapeake Bay is a mere 1/2 mile away, where guests may use the private beach and full services of the Tolchester Marina. The Inn's six guest rooms, two parlors, screened porch, and numerous fireplaces provide a casual and friendly atmosphere. Our new "Stones Throw" cottage is the perfect romantic getaway or retreat.

Lovely, welcoming place to stay. Owners are charming, and food was delightful! Comfortable, clean bedrooms. Because it is an older home, there is no elevator to the second floor where the bedrooms are, but once you are there, it is easy to stay up there! Strongly recommend. Ask owners for helpful tips on restaurants, activities, etc.

It was my wife's birthday and I wanted to do something incredibly special for her. Both being teachers, we needed an escape before heading back to school. My wife gave me two criteria: "no big cities and somewhere I can literally just sit and read and exist for two days." While I was planning this, I think it took me three weeks to not only find it but to make sure it truly was the perfect place for her. We just got back and had the best time. It was an experience we will never forget. We did not stay at the Inn itself, but right around the corner on the property at the Stones Throw Cottage. We had the cottage all to ourselves for two days. Nobody to bother us, nothing to worry about. Five gorgeous and comfy rooms...all to ourselves. A beautiful den / sitting area, with TV, plenty of books to read, a comfy couch, on which we both took amazing naps. There's a wonderful gas fireplace which we didn't use or need. A super big dining area, a full kitchen, chock full of every appliance one would need...plates, dishes, glasses, huge sink, everything we have in our home kitchen. There is even a stackable washer / dryer combination just off the kitchen. A huge full bathroom and an amazingly comfy bedroom, with a canopy queen bed, lots of windows for natural light, even more books to read, and a TV, which we never used. Vaulted ceilings as well with ceiling fan. Thermostat for the whole house in the bedroom helped keep the place cozy and comfy. The driveway is circular and roomy. The grounds of the Cottage are well manicured and just gorgeous. The place is inviting and we couldn't be happier with our time away. Jim and Tracy were super welcoming and kind. We had a chance to talk to Tracy one afternoon as we walked over to the Inn and enjoyed two hours of sitting in their Adirondack chairs and listening to literally nothing at all, other than the bullfrogs in the pond and the birds. Their two adorable Golden Retrievers even came out to meet and play with us. We also saw a bald eagle. Jim and Tracy have their own herb garden and upon arrival at the Cottage, Tracy had put some freshly-picked herbs on the counter in the kitchen. These folks are the kindest and most incredible hosts and we cannot thank them enough. If you are looking for a getaway for a couple of days or a week, the Inn at Mitchell House and/or the Stones Throw Cottage will fit your wishes to the "T". Easy to find, just drive slowly on the gravely driveway leading up to the property. We look forward to seeing Jim and Tracy once again in the future and proudly recommending their place to friends, neighbors and colleagues who may be looking for a getaway. The Inn at Mitchell House is nothing short of perfection on all front. Thank you Jim and Tracy!

Located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, close to Chesapeak Bay; lovely grounds; nicely done interior; very delightful hosts; wonderful golden puppy; just a great place to hang out for a few relaxing days: close to excellent eating on the Bay. Delicious breakfast!

After more than 30 years since our first visit, we returned to the Inn at Mitchell to find it was better than ever! Innkeepers Jim and Tracy Stone are long-time friends and continue to amaze with simple beauty and charm, historic and rustic décor, and really good breakfasts!!!!! Our room was beautifully appointed, spacious and comfortable, and we really enjoyed the bathroom with shower. We also enjoyed the short drive through the countryside to/from the quaint and easy-to-walk-around streets and waterfront of historic Chestertown -- including catching up on some of the interesting history of the area (don't miss out on Caulk's Field!). We hated to leave - but had quick access to see friends in Annapolis for lunch, visit the Naval Academy in the afternoon, and still have an easy ride to BWI to catch our flight home. Can't wait to visit again -- much sooner this time!

My wife and I really enjoyed our two days here for a well needed getaway for 2020. Jim and Tracy are wonderful hosts and made us feel at home. I have a great love for history and it was like stepping back in time at this lovely BnB. The breakfasts were very good and in a really nice setting.

The Inn at Mitchell House is a very charming bed and breakfast. Me and my wife enjoyed celebrating her milestone birthday there. The Ringgold Room where we stayed was clean and beautiful, with an historic look and feel. The breakfasts served were great tasting as well. But what most impressed us was inkeepers Tracy and Jim's friendliness and advice on where we could go and what we could do in the Chestertown and Rock Hill areas. They gave us the opportunity to experience great local restaurants, quaint waterfront areas and very friendly people. We especially enjoyed the opportunity to go to private Tolchester Beach through the the Inn's affiliation. The beach area had great live music and a setting that made us feel like we were on a vacation at a beach area much further sough than Maryland. We found the Inn to be the best value in that part of the Eastern Shore. Overall, we give The Inn at Mitchell Place five out of five stars, and look forward to staying there again!

The historic plantation home itself was beautiful, made even better by the property that it sat on, and topped off by the gracious and accommodating hosts, Tracy and Jim. My wife Lisa and I really enjoyed looking around the entire house, trying to take in all of the interesting architecture and furnishings, as well as the various collections they have acquired over the years. The breakfasts were excellent and they provided us with whatever we needed to make our stay comfortable. The location was perfect to make short drives to all of the scenic small towns located in Kent County. Thanks for a wonderful experience! Mike M

This Inn is a perfect place to stay in Chestertown! The rooms are well furnished and very clean. The breakfast was terrific. Omelet one morning, French Toast the next. The Stone's are great host, they make you fell at home. I really enjoyed my stay. On my next trip I plan to stay there again.

My friends and I visit The Inn at Mitchell House every year during duck hunting season in late January. Jim and Tracey, Mitchell House owners, always talked about how much fun Chestertown is during the summer months. We decided to take our significant others for an August visit. We were not disappointed. In addition to just relaxing and enjoying being at the inn, we booked a fishing charter, went on a river cruise, and saw some live music at a couple of beach pubs. The trip was very reasonably priced and a lot of fun. I highly recommend a visit any time of year.
