My wife and I looked at hotels which were close to the Merrill Auditorium as we were attending a show there. The Press Hotel was a stone's throw from the Merrill so we booked it. A great choice! Friendly staff at every corner. Comfortable and clean room nicely decorated. Quiet (always important). Also had a great breakfast at the Union Restaurant. Next time will plan a longer stay.

It pains me to write this. I grew up here. I grew up reading the portland press herald so I was excited to stay here. Meh. I have lifetime status with Marriott. This hotel is nice. The room was great. The food at union was underwhelming. The staff not so friendly. While they did reply to my messages in the app they weren't very friendly. Saying hi when you walk by the front desk -- I didn't even get a smile.. I checked out and went to the Regency. Way better service, way friendlier, I'm glad I did. I haven't stayed at the Regency in a while. I had better service at the courtyard on the water. Look for Tasha there -- she's great.

Only experienced one night, but my husband and I really enjoyed our stay. We had a king suite with city and distant water views…and the soaking tub was lovely. The room was very clean with an abundance of towels and attention to detail. I really appreciated all of the unique details throughout the hotel relating to the press…the hallway carpeting was adorable. The Union restaurant within the hotel has a delicious brunch and the Inkwell makes a sweet cappuccino. It’s a great location for exploring all of downtown Portland, Maine. We will likely be back!

I stayed here with my daughter for one night. We loved everything about this hotel. It’s beautiful, funky, extremely well appointed and so comfortable. Plus the location is perfect. We were greeted at the door and our luggage was taken right to the lobby while the valet parking whisked our car away. The room was large and the bathroom was dreamy. After our evening out we came back to a turn down service that folded our clothing and left chocolates for us. The next morning we had a yummy breakfast in the very pretty dining room. We can’t wait to come back!

We will be back. The restaurant is phenomenal. This is a boutique hotel with lovely accommodations. The room was clean and comfortable. The service was very good and the staff were friendly. You must eat here when visiting, its not your typical hotel restaurant.

The Press Hotel is worthy of being in the Autograph Collection. It is built on the site of a former newspaper and the hotel gives multiple nods to that heritage. In each room there is a leather chair that has written on its back: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. Without giving up my age, this is how I learned to type back in high school eons ago. Apparently it is also the phrase that can parse different fonts for you to choose from (shared with me by one of the staff). There are also many other nods to the print industry: multiple typewriters abound, even miniature replicas/facsimilies of printing presses (I was fortunate to have turned the replica of Gutenberg's printing press in Germany on one of our trips). The service is good and welcoming. Just a fun…

My wife and I spent a Fall weekend in Portland visiting friends. We stayed at the Press for the first time. We were very “impressed” by what we experienced. The location is fantastic, right in the heart of a great part of Portland, convenient to shops and restaurants. The hotel decor was attractive, and our room was quite comfortable. We ate a terrific brunch in the Union restaurant. As with any top hotel, the caring and attentive service is what sets the Press apart. A quick response to a request for extra housekeeping items, a reservation for a table at a crowded restaurant and, finally, shipping home a forgotten item. All of these were examples of the attentive service we experienced during our short stay. Looking forward to our next visit to Portland and the Press!

The rooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable. Housekeeping is offered but must be requested in advance. Pros: Great location. Easy walk to restaurants, shops and the harbor. All the staff was very friendly. Valet was very quick and nice. Coffee/wine bar in the lobby. Water bottles were complimentary. Cons: Restaurant is not opened every day. No daily room service. Overall we enjoyed our stay and highly recommend.

This hotel is at an excellent location to explore Portland and surrounding areas. It is right in downtown, also close to highway got taking various day trips. My stay was OK. The only thing is that I did not get to try its breakfast, as it was closed for some reason when we were there. My room was also on the small side. Considering the price we pay, I am little disappointed on that. Also, they put me right next to the elevator, and it was kinda noisy.

I was hugely looking forward to my stay at The Press, it being listed as the 2nd best hotel in Portland. CheckIn was efficient though some payment issues were noted - not really a surprise as my Corporate Travel Agent had previously let me know that the hotel was not good at responding to their emails or calls. I guess they are short-staffed, as seems to be a common theme - with their Restaurent and var service closed on multiple times during my stay, not impressive given the rate card. And for a hotel of this calibre/rate card to not even provide a tea/coffee amenity tray in the room is quite unbelievable. I like the vibe of the property, but given its costs (rate card, and means/drinks) I will not elect to stay here on my next visit.
