Fantastic food, service and stay at the Badger. Staff helpful and efficient with great atmosphere and restaurant. A genuine boutique hotel with style and a great restaurant to. A super choice of drinks and fairly reasonable prices.

We stayed here for 2nights .This is a small hotel , with a restaurant , bar , garden room and a courtyard . It is tastefully decorated .The courtyard area at the back is a lovely place to eat on a sunny day , it has a grill and bar area , in the evening the stone fireplace is a nice space to have an after dinner drink . The room we had was in the cottage behind the Hotel. The room was on the small side but was well equipped , beautifully decorated and spotless The bed linen and towels were of good quality however it would have benefitted from a comfy chair, a loo roll holder and an umbrella to get to and from the hotel in the rain . A nice touch was the flask of cocoa and sweet treat which was set out in room as a night cap . Breakfast is table service , there is a reasonable choice from full cooked breakfast , smoked haddock , etc . You are also served a yoghurt, compote with crunchy nuts and a plate with some , cheese, tomatoes, avocado and salmon .The service was a bit of a hit and miss .the first morning we were served our hot course then served yogurt etc the 2nd morning it was the other way round! . It was junior staff at breakfast with little supervision., they were very friendly but it all felt a bit disorganised . The cafetière coffee was very weak , the 2nd morning we asked to have it stronger , we were served an espresso instead The sports bar in the hotel is cozy but drink are pricey -gin and tonic £11. We ate in restaurant on both evenings .The menu is small but has a reasonable variety. The 1st night our starters and mains were very tasty , we had seafood starters and fish main courses , the desserts looked good but lacked flavour and were a bit of a let down. One of the attractions of staying in the Bonnie Badger was Tom Kitchin .We have eaten in and love Kitchins in Edinburgh . . The 2nd evening I decided to try a steak , it was a cut of rump and was served with chips , it was small and tasteless. My overal opinion is this is a nice , comfortable place to stay but very over priced for what it is . It could be great but needs more leadership and staff need more training ( visit Dumfries house ) The staff were all very friendly , I got the feeling that a lot of them were part time but lack the finesse that you would expect from a place that charges these prices.

Four of us went for lunch to celebrate my friends 48 wedding anniversary. It was an hours drive to get there. Lovely welcome from reception. Went into the bar for drinks. It all looked very dark and cosy, bar well stocked with various whiskeys which delighted the men! Went into the dining room, again staff were impeccable. Menu was not too big but with a good choice. Pricey for what was generally good pub food, not necessarily fine dining which is what we wanted. Object to paying £4 for a side dish. E.g. steak pie, looked and tasted amazing but did not come with mash or veg. My friend ordered this and 2 sides which made it a very expensive main course. The atmosphere and various rooms are charming, very comfy and we were never felt we had to rush or leave. We will be back I’m sure.

Stayed in one of the Garden Cottage rooms and found the rooms to be both plush but also being around 50m from the main hotel meant our (reactive) dog was fine to be left alone for short periods of time. Also benefits from easy walking and travel links to local coastal locations. Ate in the restaurant on 1st night and the food was incredible! It was a real treat to have our choice from the a la carte menu as part of the DBB offer rather than a reduced set menu and the food was utterly delicious!! Ultimately, this place looks and feels incredible (the Scottish "summer" limited our use of the beautiful outside space) and serves some of the best gastropub food you can ask for!! Add in some friendly service and you have a near-flawless experience 😊

When I heard that Tom Kitchin was opening a B&B/restaurant in Gullane, I just knew I had to book it up for my husband's birthday, as he's both a huge foodie, and also a golfer who has long-adored the stunning Gullane scenery. I booked in January for the May bank holiday weekend, and while the room wasn't cheap (I decided to pay more for one of the two deluxe loft bedrooms), in terms of value for money I absolutely can't complain. The room itself is a good size, has fantastic views across the scenery, the bed and bedding is heavenly, and other than slightly limited storage space, couldn't be faulted. Every evening we got back to the room to mini pastries and hot chocolate - it's little touches like this which make this place really special. The location is ideal for golfers, walkers, or those like us who just wanted to spend a few days exploring the local area. We've spent plenty of time in Edinburgh itself, so didn't go into the city this time, but the express bus into town stops right outside the door, so had we wanted to go it would have been super-easy. The bar and restaurant are fantastic, with an incredible selection of food and drink, all of which is top-notch. Breakfast in particular is a real treat, with freshly squeezed orange juice, continental breakfast, yoghurt, and selection of cooked breakfast options all included. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful, and overall this was one of our most enjoyable breaks ever. I have no doubt we will back, if only because we played a lot of pool across the weekend and I have yet to win a game!
