The hotel was suitable for a quick overnight stay before leaving for our final destination. The mattresses and pillows weren't very comfy and the rooms are not air conditioned. Additionally, the front desk is not 24/7 as advertised online from our experience as we arrived on a later flight -- they close at 10pm. We had emailed the hotel 12 days prior to departing Canada to let them know we would be arriving late. We received no response. The day we arrived, we got to the hotel around 10:45pm to find the front door locked, a call button and a paper saying to give a previously provided password or call the hotel through whatsapp. We did not receive a password, nor did we have any means of contacting the hotel as we did not have wifi or data/SIM card for central America at this time. Luckily, a staff member who was off at 10pm had happened to stay later for other reasons, not because we were a late arrival, and was able to get us inside and checked in. Once we checked in and got our wifi connected, we checked our email and had received all of the necessary information...the day we arrived...at 9:54pm...I wish this information had been provided a few days earlier so we could've avoided the stress of thinking we were locked out of our hotel ina new city late at night after a full day of travel.

Ok hotel but no parking onsite. Parked on street in handicap to run in to Check in. She says we were suppose to park Right in front of the bldg but there was a taxi taking the space. Ridiculous had to circle the block and repark In front of bldg and unload vehicle and then Move car down street to parking area. Dude at the place was super rude and really didn’t want us there. He was just as rude the day after when we picked up the car. The hotel is small cute and quaint but nosy - u can hear all car noises and airplanes. No ac only ceiling fan. Had beery good shower however with super hot water. This hotel was part of a package deal to stay near the airport for our last day. Traffic getting there as a nightmare to say the least and 45 min from airport. I would recommend staying closer to airport. Took us an hour to get to airport in the morning. (Chinatown is down the street from hotel. Walked down there lots of security.) breakfast in am was mediocre. They sell beer for $4 a can or u can go down street and buy your own for far less and sit out front and enjoy it.

You’re going to want to read this before booking this place. I stayed here with another person my last night in Costa Rica and I personally think it’s terrible for even one night. The area is so sketchy You can’t park in front of the hotel so you have to go around the corner and down the block for a parking lot that is parked bumper to bumper. Yes, it’s a Victorian style hotel but they could absolutely use some remodeling. The pictures make this place look stunning but you are going to be fooled. There are no AC units in the rooms. We had a fan that barely worked. The room felt so humid. The beds are rock hard and the linens are gross! They have stains and look yellow, they clearly need to be replaced. There are no microwaves in the room or a mini fridge. The restaurant is only open for breakfast. The bar is no longer open due to COVID. We felt unsafe in this neighborhood so we didn’t even want to walk anywhere for food or drinks and were hoping we could get all of that during our stay. The bathroom is the only thing decent. The only good thing about this place was the kind staff. Put your money somewhere else. It’s not worth it in my opinion.

Bianca and her Team truly went above and beyond expectations with making my stay as perfect as it was. From the warm welcome, to helping me with travel/tour plans, she ensured every step of the process was handled with care. Even took the initiative to help rectify travel hiccups I encountered without me knowing! I was totally blown away by all the gestures beginning to end. The hotel itself is a dream. Cozy and quiet, I had great sleep here. The environment itself was very pretty, well taken care of, picture worthy moments too. I came for the charming hotel, would come back for the amazing staff! I will/would recommend this place to anyone coming to San Jose!!

I brought my family to the Fluer di Lys some 18 years after my first visit to San Jose. Then, I was traveling solo and had not a care for travel plans or schedules. It was a wonderful journey that changed my life. This trip would be different. Traveling as s family, I wanted to expose my teenage sons and wife to the beauty of Costa Rica but understood that there would need to be some planning to get experience I happened upon two decades before. Andres, at the Fluer di Lys was a great help with assisting me arrange everything from airport pick up to destination options while in country. We traveled back and forth across the country, using the hotel as our central hub and regrouping point. The hotel serves a daily Costa Rican breakfast (free) and is located close to good restaurants, museums and parks. All within a few minutes walk. Lavanka, the afternoon front desk clerk, was really helpful when we we’re choosing places to eat. As we walked around the area we would note the eateries and ask her about them. She gave honest opinions, steering us away from a couple of places and towards others. As for family sit down dining, expect to pay around 20-25 dollars per plate. There are cheaper options too. They’re usually walk up counters or small bodega style store fronts that offers a quick meal for about half the sit down restaurant. Keep in mind, there is a large tax added to meals (23%) and a fixed gratuity (10%). I’d also recommend exchanging currency in the airport. The hotel does have some cash and offers a fair exchange but for larger amounts (100US or more) they might not have it. Also, taxis are cash only. Have Colonies ready so you can discuss and pay for the trip upfront. The only low I’d say is the hotel had a wonderful restaurant and separate bar the first time I was there. This time they were closed for remodeling but should be open by fall of ‘23. I hope this review helps you make your decision on where to stay while in San Jose. Enjoy your trip!

This place is beautiful and a real gem amongst the many places here in San jose. The hotel is over 100 years old and it's original architecture has been maintained, same for the inside of the place. There are a lot of artwork and many beautiful details to be discovered. The inside architecture and decoration are amazing. The staff members are very friendly and extremely helpful. They do the utmost to make you feel comfortable. The receptionist Keilyn help me out to find places on the map and to get there. To me it was helpful that the staff members speak English since I do not speak Spanish. Staying at fleur de lis was a pleasant experience and I recommend the place to any Traveler who is interested in staying in a beautiful place with nice people. If you want a room with daylight, you should choose one of the upstairs rooms. They are quieter as the downstairs rooms, which have Windows to the corridor. Breakfast is included which is a bonus

Ended up here after abandoning our pre-paid booking at The Costa Rica Guesthouse due to a pretty wretched smelling room there. We were lucky, Fleur de Lys is a gem. Nice bright and clean room with a stellar bathroom and shower. The front desk could not have been more helpful, (she had just returned from ordering food for one of their longer term elderly guests at an Italian restaurant nearby (Sapore Trattoria), which turned out to have food as good as she’d claimed). They also have a discount for a secure overnight parking lot close by, which, although maybe not necessary, gave us extra peace of mind to not have to worry about our rental. Easily walkable to any of the things you may need to see downtown.

Fleur de Lys it’s a beautiful hotel. I would say a “Boutique” Hotel. Breakfast included and worth it. All people in the hotel are very nice. Also Hotel Fleur de Lys is located in a great spot. Has two theaters in the same block and the restaurant “Nuestra Tierra” just around the corner. The National Museum of Costa Rica is just crossing the street and from there you can enjoy a city walk and in ten minutes you will be at the local market. So, if you are planning a trip to Costa Rica, Fleur de Lys hotel is must stay….and the coffee…GREAT!

Made a reservation over a month ahead and specifically asked for an accessible room on the first floor (second as they call it there), since I was carrying quite some heavy luggage, and also a double bed. I was told yes, with pleasure, as a reply to my message. To then be given exactly what I didn’t want: a room with single beds on the 4th floor. Even after insisting at the reception. I felt lied to. If I knew, I would have chosen another hotel.

Definitely worthy of 4 stars. Good location, friendly staff, clean rooms and a lovely Costa Rican breakfast included in the price. No lift, but not a problem for us. The character of the hotel was faultless. Not sure I can think of any downside
