This guesthouse has a bit of a bohemian design feel, with an overgrown garden with cats in the middle. It’s nice to sit outside or in the cafe/bar, which serves espresso, tea and alcoholic drinks from 1:30 to 10:30 p.m. (according to the sign). The rooms are ok, a bit cheaply made and rundown, but generally clean with toilet and plenty of hot water in the shower. We reserved a more expensive loft room, but it had no windows except a skylight so it was dark and musty since it gets no fresh air. After the first night, they switched us to a regular king bed room, which was more pleasant. Comfortable bed, nice towels and soaps. Rest of the room is adequate, nothing special. The location isn’t bad. It’s about a 25 minute walk east to a large historic gate that is worth paying admission to climb up on top and look around. The gate is the start of a lively walking street through the old town lined with restaurants and shops and street stalls. Right next to the guesthouse is a somewhat homey pavilion and pagoda that is a reconstruction of part of an imperial complex from the Tang Dynasty. It looks impressive lit up at night. Breakfast is nothing to write home about - mostly Chinese stir fry and breads. No coffee. If you need caffeine, it’s about a 20 minute walk west on the main road to a Starbucks on the other side of the street in the Triumph mall. …
It's on the Zhongzhou Road, which means you can easily get public buses into both sides of the city, and directly to White Horse Temple and Longmen Grottoes - for about 1 RMB! The hotel is quite cosy, rooms basic but clean, the free breakfast is mostly local. Henry and his team are helpful. The deck on the top floor has good views of the re-constructed city gate, Sui and Tang Halls.
Once Artistic is located near the "Old Town" side of the City, the same street that to the "Old Town Market" which was one of the reason we choose it. Room facilities are standard but clean & there's a lift for upper floor. It has a cafe where we took our free breakfast, simple but nice and healthy, mixed of Chinese & Western. the staff at the counter are very helpful. It is very conveniently located with bus stop just 2 minutes walk away. Have to be very careful with the entrance, a bit small, just a shop front, even the local taxi that carry us from train station also missed it. I have given an Average rating because at the time we check in, they do not accept International credit card, otherwise it would be "Very Good".
Amazing location with great night view overlooking the Sui and Tang hall. It’s near the old town too and directly outside is the bus stop where you can take a bus to see the grottoes. Bed and room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was basic but good. Staff speaks English too.
