· Breakfast and food was excellent. We had bf, lunch and dinner at Brickyard. · If only we had queen bed instead of twin bed. My daughter fell of the bed/rolled off the bed while sleeping on the twin bed and knocked her head. Ended up with a bad bruise on her head and nose and swollen lips

Dear Kim213546768879, I am so sorry that your daughter fell off of the twin bed in the room you selected and that your visit to our retreat was impacted by that. Our hotel does offer twin and queen rooms, full twin sized rollaways, and complimentary baby cots so that guests can adjust to meet their own requirements. Wishing you happy adventures in your future travels. Kind regards, Jim Spear and the Brickyard Team

It was wonderful to return to The Brickyard, this time as Fall had already transformed itself into the beginning of Winter. While trees were quite bare of leaves, the sky was a vivid blue and the air crisp. Rooms at The Brickyard were warm and comfortable. Breakfasts, as always, bountiful and hot. While we took advantage of the free shuttle to the Mutianyu Great Wall cable car station and traversed a long section of the GW before taking the toboggan slide back to the base, it was invigorating to hike back to The Brickyard and a a hot shower. Looking forward to returning. Jim Spear and Tang Liang continue to operate a gem at a picturesque site.

There are places which I struggle with writing about - "hidden gems" as I call them since I don't really want others to find out about them and transform into commercially oriented properties with no character or soul. This was one of them - but I decided to do so to share the experience for all those who dare to venture out there. Let me get this straight up front - if you're expecting luxury and over the top decadence, people to serve your every beck and call, this is NOT the place for you, if you're expecting fresh air, nature, homeliness, warmth and a sense of community (amongst others) then this is absolutely the place to be! Rajender (his Chinese name is "Great Wall" so apt) was kind to arrange for and welcome us to the Chairman's suite for our one night stay and getaway…

Stayed here for two nights while on a Great Wall trek - best of the places I stayed at. Comfortable, warm (it was December) with a great eating and drinking area with a stove. Checkin was easy with a friendly welcome and a quick tour of the facilities. One of those places worth seeking out - and its very convenient for one of the restored sections of the wall

On our trip to China we stayed at 8 hotels, Brickyard you were our number 1! Let me start this review by saying thank you to the whole team – you made the beginning of our China trip such a wonderful memory! The hotel is a decent 1-2 hour drive from Beijing airport (depending on traffic), however for most of it you are driving through the most beautiful mountain villages. Upon arrival to the hotel you are warmly greeted by the fantastic team. We were very fortunate to be staying in the Chairman’s Suite (highly recommended), which had a great soaking tub and lovely private courtyard and the most amazing views of the Great Wall from every corner of the room, including the bed! The team speak perfect English and were able to fully explain the process of getting up to the Wall…

Dear FrequentTravellerUAE, Wow, Thank you so much for your review. To be the best among 8 hotels in your evaluation is a big deal for us! I am concerned, of course, that you found the dishes on our comfort food menu to be hit or miss and I will remind our whole team it is to be consistently excellent, though we do realize that guests may have different tastes and preferences. About having a pool, we do have a 24/7 365 day a year outdoor spa with views of the Great Wall and stars at night that is open to all of our guests without additional charge. I hope you tried it and enjoyed. We will continue to see if we can add a pool to our amenities but for now I am afraid we do not have a plan for that. Thank you again for your review and I really hope you will come back... Wishing you well on all your travels, Jim Spear, Partner

This place is so special. We were originally planning on staying here during our trip to Beijing last week, but we had to shorten our stay so didn’t have time for an overnight at the wall. That being said, we were so intrigued by the reviews we decided to see if we could stop by for lunch after visiting the wall. IT MADE OUR DAY! The front gate said “by appointment only” but a kind staff member saw us and invited us in for lunch! The restaurant was so relaxing and charming. Halfway through an amazing duck risotto and a bottle of wine, we were greeted by one of the managers AND HE MADE US A FIRE IN THE LOUNGE AND BROUGHT US DESSERT. I’m aware the caps are a lot, but really the service doesn’t get much better than that. After lunch we told him about how sad we were that we…

We have just returned from our second trip to the Brickyard . Our first was in October and we had booked for three nights . My husband who had been unwell but seemed to be getting better prior to arrival was actually very poorly and couldn’t eat and stayed in the room . We left after one night and went back to Beijing where he was admitted into hospital for four nights with pneumonia and a colon infection . During our brief stay Mr Rajender , the manager , and the staff were all very kind and concerned . Mr Rajender arranged for some healthy snacks to be brought to the room for my husband . We were touched that they then subsequently issued a voucher for two days credit for the nights we’d paid for but had not been able to stay for . After all, we departed on the day we should…

My husband and I spent a wonderful night at The Brickyard Retreat in mid November. We absolutely loved our room and the gorgeous view of the mountains and the Great Wall. We were also extremely impressed with the 4 meals we had in the retreats restaurant. The pork dumplings were amazing, but after non-stop Chinese food the nachos were fabulous! It was a very relaxing and much needed downtime. Definitely would highly recommend and hope to visit again in the future.

Great location! Excellent accommodations! Best food I’ve had in 3 trips to China. They made it easy to get here by picking me up at the train station and the driver had a sign with my name. Once I arrived at the hotel and got settled in my room, they arranged a free shuttle to see the Wall. All I had to do was call them and they picked me up when I was ready to return to the hotel. The room is incredible! As I type this I’m laying on a very comfortable bed and looking at the Great Wall! Unbelievable!!!
