Lt. Aussage am Hotel Eingang 3 Sterne Hotel, schöne Zimmer, teilweise mit Balkon, zentral gelegen (Fußweg grüner Platz ca. 10 Minuten), lange Frühstückszeit, für Libyen gute Auswahl (diverse Käse, Wurst, Marmeladesorten, mehrere Brote), rel. sauber, TV, hatte nur einmal kurz Wasserausfall (Pumpe im Keller defekt), Personal teilweise englischsprachig, insgesamt halbwegs empfehlenswert
I stayed at the Al Kendi hotel for the first 3 nights of my recent visit to Libya. My room was clean and comfortable. Noise from the street below was a bit of a problem but I had no difficulty in sleeping. The breakfast was good and the hotel is in easy walking distance of Green Square. The staff at the Al Kendi were just great - very, very friendly and helpful. I made friends with several of the people who worked there and even afer I left the hotel to stay with the other members of my group I returned to the Al Kendi on several occasions to catch up with my new friends.
We have just returned from Libya and stayed at this hotel on three separate occasions. It might not be situated in the smartest area of Tripoli but at least it is convenient for walking to the souk and to Green Square. On one of our forays outside of Tripoli I realised that I had, inadvertently, left my camera charger at the hotel. On our return not only had the staff found and saved my charger they had even removed a pair of trousers my husband had discarded in the waste bin and saved those! They were always charming and spent time giving us lessons in Arabic! Do not expect four star luxury that one might expect from Western hotels but it is clean and has old world charm.
We stayed in the Al Kendi Hotel for 4 nights in March 2007. The Al Kendi Hotel is 2 blocks from Sharia Omar al-Mukhtar, a main road which leads onto Green Square (approximately a 20 minute walk). This hotel has 45 rooms positioned over 9 floors. The restaurant (top floor) has good views over the city, this was especially convenient on 29th March when fireworks were used to celebrate Prophet Mohammad’s birthday. A seating area with soft drinks counter (alcohol is illegal in Libya) is situated just behind reception where a continental style buffet breakfast is served. Our room, 301, was quite small and contained attractive dark wood furniture. It was positioned on the main staircase internally and had a balcony overlooking the street. Other than a few carpet stains and marks on the wall, this room was clean, however a chair and drawer were broken. The bed was hard but very comfortable and linen was changed every day. Amenities included a TV (only Arabic stations), mini bar/fridge and air conditioning. The bathroom has a full size bath and shower – please be aware that all hotels bathrooms in Libya seem to have extremely hot (almost boiling) water Street noise was a problem as the shops below specialised in fitting car radios/alarms and would sometimes still be working at midnight. Reception staff were helpful and could understand some English, especially useful as I used their safety deposit box. Breakfast/restaurant staff were not so good. We only ate at the Al Kendi Hotel a single night and could see why our guide took us to places he recommended. …
