A lovely Black Forest hotel, situated on the edge of the forest and a good centre for exploring the area. I had a single room in the annex. It was quite large, but had no view, as it was built into the hillside. It was clean & comfortable. The food & staff were good & helpful

The initial experience wasn't fantastic, as we arrived on a Monday evening about 8PM, but the reception was closed, as it was the hotel's day off ("Ruhetag" in German). There was more than one bell, and one didn't seem to work, but a family or staff member answered the door after a short wait. There was another short delay with finding our booking, but we were checked in and the staff member in question apologised for the problems. However, we soon settled in and still had time to find a meal at another local hotel / restaurant. The rooms were spacious and always cleaned well, although we did have to mention some light bulbs which didn't work. Not all the rooms have views and they are split across two wings of the building, but there were no actual problems with that. The only problem with the split layout is that the rear part of the building has to be accessed either via a stairway at the back of the restaurant, or across the car park outside. The car park is on rough ground in places and isn't well lit either, which requires some care, especially after dark. The restaurant area includes a recently renovated (and nicely furnished) bar, a more traditional dining area and an outside beer garden. The dining experience, both at breakfast and dinner, was generally good and the staff were pleasant. There is just one main letdown to the dining experience, and that is the presence of a number of flies in the dining room and kitchen (seen from the dining room), especially on the ceilings. There wasn't any obvious blue light hygiene system to deal with this. It may have partly been the time of year and even the location (near the forest) but it should be addressed somehow. We didn't mention it to the staff at the time, but we would welcome any comment or response on this matter.

I am so sorry to have to rate this charming hotel a 2 but I have to be honest - The rooms are sweet and clean - maid service was great - Honestly the quality of food is very good but the service and wait staff were a 2 or worse. We had a wedding dinner there and had to ask for a glass of wine 5 times and then it never did come. Nor did the dessert (that was already paid for!). I know that wait staff can get busy but please! This was almost non existent. Breakfast is so nice but if you dare miss the 10 o'clock cut off you get charged for coffee and bread dearly. The weather was unseasonably hot but there were no fans in the room and no attempt to get any. The answer to most of our questions was "not possible". No kidding. The staff live on the property and it seems that there are noisy children and dogs everywhere. If you want internet you must receive a little almost unreadable ticket for EACH of the things you wish to put on the internet. For instance - you must get a ticket with a separate username and password for your phone, iPad, and computer and log in separately for each device. Lord what a pain. This hotel seems tired. Here was the worst part. There are these hidden costs. You get charged a "finance office" charge - per person - for the privilege of parking or using the sauna even if you don't use either. We paid 49 euro for something that we did not use. It simply didn't seem fair. The beer garden is lovely at night and 2 out of 6 servers are competent. Try to get Maximus. It's the only way we got a beer. Make sure to walk to the little church up the road or to the Italian restaurant by the park near the sweet little town. You won't be disappointed there.

Im on 1 week holiday and im a solo traveller based in Hinterzarten. The personell were all so nice and made me welcome, they were sympathetic as im an english speaker and cant speak german. I have stopped by twice after a few outings and found the food very good. I will keep going back for a afternoon meal as im based near the hotel for 4 more nights. Its so evident its a good establishment as it was packed with guests!

We stay here most of the time when visiting Hinterzarten because we enjoy the rather large and well equipped rooms. However the main reason to come back year after year is the friedliness of all staff and the owners. They always go the extra mile. A really lovely 3-star hotel with a good choice for breakfast. You can even chose between medium and soft eggs and they are exactly how I expect them. I always chose a room to the rear, they are very comfy and quiet. There is also a sauna available upon request at no extra cost

We try to stay here most years in the winter for a long weekend and we are not skiers! But, always have a wonderful stay in the hotel. Visiting the surrounding area by foot or train. We love the rooms at the back of the hotel especially listening to the school children having fun on their sledges in the mornings. We have stayed in this hotel in the Summer too and would recommend it to anyone who asked us for some where to stay in Hinterzarten.

We are staying here with the kids. There's a nice play yard next to the restaurant. Specious room, amazing view, friendly stuff. What else do we need? The food in the restaurant is good and the hotel is very cosy and warm. Lovely spot to crash and experience the Black Forest. If you reserve in advance than the prices are very attractive!

This was our starting and end point for our cycling tour of the Southern Black Forest, so it was the only hotel we stayed in twice. The rooms were well appointed, if somewhat twee, however they were very spacious and comfortable. This is a lovely family run hotel and set in the beautiful village of Hinterzarten famous for it's ski jump facilities. The food, certainly the dish I had, was to die for. It was pork medallions in a rich, creamy mushroom sauce. This, washed down with the local Rothaus beer, was so good that it was the thought of ordering the same at the end of our trip, which spurred me on through our route. I thoroughly recommend this hotel. Great food, great setting, great beer!

It was a pleasure to stay in this rather small hotel where the staff were attentive and helpful. My room was rather large with plenty of space. The area is quiet and the beds are perfect. I had, all in all a pleasant stay
