Nestled on a beautiful beachfront, Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa garners accolades for its inviting atmosphere and well-appointed amenities, including a spa and comfortable rooms that boast striking sea views. Guests often commend the hotel for its cleanliness and the professionalism of the friendly staff. While the prime location is a hit among travelers, opinions on value are mixed, with some concerns about hidden costs. Despite occasional remarks on the need for room modernization, the overall experience is enhanced by the hotel's stylish refurbishment.

I needed a few days away to 'reset' the old batteries and hubby was abroad golfing.

I flew in to Newquay from a local airport and after much research pre travelling, I settled on Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa based on the website and a great number of positive TA reviews. That said and to be totally honest and although I was familiar with the area, the Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa was a considered 'punt' for me as I have not stayed there previously.

The 'punt' paid massive dividends and I have to say was one of the best hotel experiences if not the best hotel experience I have ever had and trust me, I travel an awful lot throughout the UK and abroad on a very regular basis.

In summary:

The food ... to die for [I booked a three day package with evening meal included].

My room with a balcony and overlooking Fistral Beach .... again to die for.

In room facilities ... superb and I have to especially mention the Gaia toiletries which came in 500 ml containers. There is no need to bring any 'from home' toiletries and aside from the quality [superb], the offerings were the most generous size wise I have ever encountered in a hotel environment.

The bed ... luxe and so comfy.

The TV - great and I have to say easy to navigate the set up and channels which is not always the case when staying in hotel accommodation.

The sound of the ocean when resting at night [balcony door open] .... amazing and so relaxing.

The spa experience and particularly treatments from Shannon and Rosie - out of this world and to a level I have never ever experienced before. Thank you so much Shannon and Rosie. Your spa is absolutely 'on point'.

Pool, jacuzzi, steam and sauna rooms - superb.

The staff - amazing and a fantastic group of people. The staff are kind and caring and nothing is too much trouble. Always thoughtful and interested in their guests. For a solo traveller these 'touches' mean the absolute world. The hotel is truly a safe space for all but particularly the solo traveller.

Housekeeping - fantastic.

Would I return? - without question and in a flash.

I just wish other hotels could 'bottle' what you offer as a company. Fabulous team work and customers at the centre of the operation and I cannot wait to return.

Can I say the biggest thank you to each and every member of staff who looked after me as a guest from 13 July to 16 July 2023 in Room 215? I will take your kindness and care with me forever.

We booked a weekend spa break a couple months in advance. We were concerned about COVID causing a cancellation but we were assured we could rebook if that were to happen, luckily we were able to go away for the weekend. There is a mask wearing policy in all indoor areas except when seated in the bar / restaurant, in your room, or in the spa and hand sanitizer is readily available.
The hotel was lovely and clean with fantastic views from the bar and restaurant. We didn’t upgrade our room as we weren’t going to be spending a lot of time there so our room was basic but still lovely. It was a little noisy at times as it backed onto the main stair well, we weren’t overly concerned as it didn’t keep us awake and you have to expect a bit of noise in a hotel.
Breakfast and dinner was included in the price and the food was excellent - the service was a little slow on the first night but not a problem the following day. All social areas closed at 10pm (due to COVID), which we knew and didn’t bother us in anyway.
The spa was beautiful with a warm pool, jacuzzi and steam room. The relaxation room was good and had clear plastic between each lounger to help with COVID. The treatments we had were great (deep relax) and the therapists were fantastic.
All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
We had a lovely weekend away and would definitely recommend and return.

Booked a sea view balcony room as an upgrade, wow totally worth much more than I paid, if you can book these rooms then do it you will see why, View alone with a glass of wine is absolutely spectacular. Spa facilities great, breakfast a tad tiny but well cooked with all dietary requirements catered for. Staff are friendly hospitable knowledgeable made us feel welcome and relaxed, covid rules all in place, parking can be an issue but you can ask for a slot with a bollard key so ask on booking 👍we have stayed in some fantastic hotels uk and abroad but this one is definitely up there in our top 5, already planning to come back in the new year. Rooms are good very clean bed is huge room service prompt and easy, 3 minutes walk max from beautiful fistral beach, the food drinks app can be a tad awkward to navigate but waiter helped us through it, drinks and snacks maybe overpriced slightly but like us when paying look out the window and indulge in a view you cannot get at Wetherspoons 👎wonderful hotel cannot wait to return.

Dear Bob, We feel very honoured indeed that you had such a wonderful stay with us and rate us so highly compared to other hotels you have visited. We cannot agree more about nabbing a balcony room so that you can sit out and enjoy a glass of wine to the sound of the waves. We are filled with pride to read that our staff made you feel so welcome and that they ensured your stay was that much more enjoyable. We shall see you in the next year and hope the weather will be lovely on your next visit so you can enjoy once of our balconies again. Kind regards, Daniel and the team at Fistral Beach Hotel & Spa

The reviewer who described this hotel as Champagne prices but Lemonade service was spot on. This is a solid 3 star hotel, in a great location with clean rooms, fantastic sea views and pleasant staff. What it is not is a hotel that has the attention to detail, level of accommodation, food or quality of service worth over £300 per night.

This is our second visit and we stay here simply for the location and sea view. We avoid the restaurant and recommend Jam Jar or Sea Spray for a light breakfast and Lewinnick Lodge or Little Italy for superb meals.

Our ‘best’ room had a balcony and stunning sea views and was clean with the exception of the inside handle on the balcony door and the balcony rail and furniture. Large chunks of grouting were missing from underneath the shelf in the bathroom, the shower and bath were good but no where to put sponge soap etc so these ended up on the floor, dirty grouting in the shower, very poor lighting for make up and no magnifying mirror. Overpriced mini bar, small fridge that doesnt fit properly in its cupboard, no fresh milk and cheap tea and coffee sachets. The bed and pillows are very very hard and we slept poorly and woke with back aches so I recommend you bring your own pillows and maybe something to pad the matress. We didnt use the pool, gym or spa this time but I did try a spa treatment at our last stay and this was good but not a luxurious experience. The hotel still uses small single use plastic Espa toiletries which is a shame. To reserve parking costs £15 per night.

Covid is reasonably well done with hand sanitisers, and an in house app, but Tables in the bar were not being wiped down in between customers and some Spa users were walking around without masks and staff were not reminding them to wear them. You get a breakfast slot which we didnt use and a continental hamper can be delivered to your room for 9am but no fresh orange juice.

Overall this hotel has good facilities and a great location but its just overpriced for what it delivers.

Undeniably a stunning location, Cap’n Steve and I were even more stunned that the company had splashed £300 a room for us for our night stop in Newquay. A short flight from London to Newquay had hardly been an arduous day and we enjoyed an afternoon of summer sunshine by the beach.

Our rooms were, not surprisingly, on the “garden” side, the sea views being another £100 or so. In both cases they overlooked a flat roof and steep bank with the auditory accompaniment of an industrial extractor fan from the kitchen.

The best bit of the room was the bathroom, filled with rather expensive products in full sized dispensers. Just as I was about to pack them up as a romantic, yet parsimonious, present for Mrs C, I noticed a microscopic sign saying I’d be charged ... you have been warned!

Before dinner I smashed out an hour of cardio in the hotel’s gym which is excellent. Lots of machines and weights; all appearing brand new.

We ate in the bar. The staff were a very friendly. The menu was limited. Captain Steve had fish and chips whilst I opted for the burger. My chips were cold and had to be sent back. The burger was quite nice though and Steve enjoyed his fish although found the whole dish a little on the greasy side. We decided puddings were in order and ordered homemade ice cream with me having a brownie. This was the low point of the meal. Now I make a very good brownie so I set a high bar. What arrived was a squishy lump of cake which wasn’t hugely chocolaty and had probably been warmed through in a microwave. The accompanying salted caramel icecream had been over-salted.

The room was comfortable but didn’t benefit from air conditioning (there was a portable unit in the wardrobe). Being another sweltering day I decided to strip the duvet out and sleep under the cover.

The windows were small and didn’t open very far. They were adorned with ghastly Roman blinds - very 1970s styling - which looked ancient and failed to blockout light. I was wide awake at 5am as light streamed in in long slivers.

Breakfast was very good. A sms buffet, very well executed, and some good cooked options made to order. We did notice a distinct lack of housekeeping in the breakfast room though. The window sills were awash with dead flies. As I paid the £600 bill I glanced to my right and saw cobwebs and more dead flies adorning the window over the entrance.

Overall then, we both felt this hotel is trading off its location and needs to work harder to get the details right. Frankly I would have preferred the Premier Inn just up the street which comes at half the price along with black out curtains and air conditioning.

Having to take a staycation in the UK rather than heading abroad we wanted somewhere that would really feel like a treat and generally Fistral Beach Hotel provided this. We stayed to begin with in the double seaview room which had an amazing view of the Atlantic sea and beach, was a large room, with a massive comfortable bed. However the room didn’t quite sparkle enough for the cost we paid over £300 a night. There were small stains on the carpet- that kind of thing! But the view took our attention anyway mainly! We extended our stay to a balcony room and we loved it and wished we’d had that all week. The room was just that much more smarter, still with the deliciously comfy bed, but with the addition of the outside space to sit and enjoy the view!
Breakfast during C19 was a bit different to normal. Either cooked in the restaurant or continental in room. We tried both and decided to stick with the continental in the room as the cooked breakfast in the restaurant took ages as they were so busy and you couldn’t add anything like fruit or pastries to you order. Whereas the continental was delivered at 9am and you had pastries, bread, meat, cheese, granola, yogurt and fruit. We also didn’t pay for the hotel parking at £15 a night because by arriving after 6pm when things were quietening down, we were able to park on the road outside. Whilst it seemed a bit expensive for the quality of the rooms, the view and position of this hotel right on Fistral Beach with a view of the surfers make this hard to beat.

Location is great, and the views are amazing. Staff extremely friendly and polite, however I do feel the hotel is starting to age and was disappointed with a few aspects.

The hotel isn’t cheap, I paid £160 for one night (room only), old tv in room, the throw was frayed, dressing gown provided didn’t smell too pleasant. The very small selection of Nibbles in the room provided were really over priced, £5 for a bag of peanuts- I did lol!

When we used the spa area, it is rather small and was over crowded, I could not relax. People bombing in the pool and splashing people, just wasn’t the type of vibe the hotel had marketed. No cups for the water machine, no option of getting any additional drinks around the pool. I do feel they need to extend the spa area, no outdoor pools and no places to lay down around the pool.

We ordered our breakfast the day before as we wanted room service and to have breakfast in bed, I ordered it for 8:45am and it didn’t turn up till 9:30am, I also had to chase twice where the food was and didn’t get a courtesy call or an apology. How ever the breakfast was very nice.

It’s not the worst hotel, there are a lot of pros however I did leave feeling a bit disappointed ☹️

We stayed 3 nights at the hotel after booking pretty much as soon as the announcement was made that hotels were reopening.
As we have both worked throughout the pandemic for 60 plus hours a week each we really needed a break and wanted to completely chill.
Sadly we didn’t chill while at the hotel. We didn’t book a room with a view but the view we had was over a roof to the rear which we think was an extended bar seating area. We did get noise from there at night with people out there, there was also lots of noise from adjoining rooms, door slamming, conversations, people stamping in rooms above and then the final straw was the aerobic class at 0700 on the morning of our last day.

The breakfast was shockingly bad. The service was appalling, only one person seemed to be able to smile, clearly short staffed but seemingly in no hurry to serve. The food was fairly poor, the full English was dried and lukewarm, toast either came straight away and hit on miss how long you waited for tea and whether you got tea or coffee.
It made no difference the order you ordered your drinks & food, it felt like they just gave it to whoever. Plus you would expect, despite Covid that you would be offered all of the options you’d normally get at a breakfast Buffett but pastries, yoghurt, fruits etc were never offered. 1st day I asked for fruit salad to be told they’d run out. Didn’t ask the second day as we were so fed up with the shocking service we wanted to escape.
You have to book a time slot & I just don’t understand how they can get this so wrong.

The gym is ok, small & the machinary is dated. I didn’t feel that safe using the gym, I did go twice but once someone else came in I decided to leave as it is quite small & I couldn’t see that it had been cleaned.

I appreciate that hotels have had a rough time but they have had government help with furlough and grants but it seems that Fistral beach is only thinking about taking money. They’ve clearly cut costs with less staff, housekeeping on request only, quality of breakfast food reduced, they aren’t passing on the VAT reduction but still charging extremely high prices that we don’t mind paying but not for a poor stay & service.

I was really disappointed with the hotel, I’ve wanted to come down for a couple of years & feel very let down.

Dear shawkins172018 Thankyou for taking the time to leave us a Tripadvisor review. I very much appreciate that you were seeking an opportunity to relax following the lockdown, we have been endeavoring to make many improvements and also make our property as safe as possible for both our guests and our staff during this time ready for when guests could return You have my sincerest apologies that the breakfast service was not up to standard, the restaurant team have been made aware of your concerns and I will continue to monitor the breakfast service personally. As you pointed out we are not currently able to offer a breakfast buffet option. This is direct government guidance for hotels due to safety concerns and we, of course, are adhering to government guidance on this matter We are currently offering a continental breakfast delivered to the room for you to enjoy or a cooked breakfast option in the Restaurant Also stated in your review our daily housekeeping is on request only (or after every 4 days if your stay is longer) This is to reduce the numbers of personnel entering your room unnecessarily, another piece guidance passed down to us from the Government. We have been implementing top-ups of amenities, towels etc to the rooms on request and we have this week made this even easier with hangers in all rooms to go on the door With the above in mind, I was surprised and disappointed that you have described our Gym area as unsafe; our machinery is individually spaced and sectioned with screens, each piece of equipment has its own sanitising supplies, cleaned regularly and the windows allow for a well-ventilated area, it is a very safe area and I apologies you felt uncomfortable in this area. We have indeed had a tough few months, however, we have been determined throughout the pandemic and strive to continue to deliver a fabulous stay for those who choose to stay with us. Our team have been extremely grateful for the Furlough scheme which has allowed them to remain employed and pay their bills for this lockdown period, the business receives no financial gain from this. We have not had any Government grants during this time and endeavor to still provide a great value place to stay during this high demand period. I extend my apologies that you feel let down by our Hotel and I hope that you will reconsider when you are next visiting this beautiful part of the country If you wish to discuss your stay or review any further you can contact me directly at Manager@fistralbeachhotel.co.uk Best Regards, Grant Purvis Operations Manager On behalf of the Fistral Beach Hotel & Spa

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel for our wedding anniversary. Fantastic service from start to finish, particularly from bar staff member (Amber?).

Covid-wise, all staff wear PPE and guests are asked to wear masks around the hotel. They have an app where you can order all food and drinks from, but the best part is that there is a live chat service - you can send a message and a member of staff will get back to you pretty much immediately. Nothing was too much hassle, we asked for ice 3 times and each time they were at our door within minutes!

Lovely outside area that you can sit and have food/drinks on with possibly the best view over Fistral. Our room (pictured) was ocean-facing and was well worth it for the sweeping views of the sea. Room really spacious too, and they had written ‘happy anniversary’ on the mirror which was a really thoughtful touch.

Spa was great. Really spacious pool & lovely jacuzzi. Shame not to be able to use steam room and sauna but obviously understandable given Covid. Breakfast was really lovely too (we had the full English) and really enjoyed the light and airy Environment of the dune bar.

Only reason why it isn’t 5 stars is mainly because I think it’s slightly overpriced for the rooms that you get. Parking is limited and can be quite tricky. Also we didn’t have a fridge in our room which would have been useful. But all in all I would absolutely recommend, we had a really relaxing and lovely stay with top service throughout. Thank you all, I’m sure we will be back!

Returned to the Fistral Beach hotel this week after an incredible stay a couple of years ago I was desperate to visit again but must say I do feel as though it was a little less special this time.
The first time I visited I felt as if there were more little touches which made it feel more luxurious! Last time on check in there was a lovely warm welcome and we were greeted with a glass of Prosecco and the staff made you feel instantly relaxed, my most recent visit was just like checking into a normal travel lodge, given a room key and told our room number.
I had booked an afternoon tea for when we arrived which was fine. Wasn’t the best quality but it was fairly cheaply priced at £18 compared to some you can get in the area, personally I would have rather paid a little bit more for better quality. You could tell none of it was fresh, the scones were cold and quite hard and the rest of the cakes were nothing more than average. We then decided to give dinner and breakfast a miss and go out to eat.
I booked the same type of room as I had stayed in previously, a “best room” which was fine, a little bit smaller than the one before but that wasn’t a problem. There were some lovely little touches in the room, a Birthday card, balloons and chocolates on the bed and a happy birthday message on the mirror which was really nice. The room was a little bit tired, the plugs in one of the sinks was rusty, the curtain behind the bath was quite dirty and had rust marks along the bottom and I don’t know how long the biscuits had been in the mugs but they were quite broken up and looked like they had probably been handled by a few previous people. The view from the room was incredible and it was nice having a big bath overlooking the sea.
We did have a drink in the bar in the evening, cocktails were lovely and it was a lovely relaxed environment with lots of board games. There was a lady working, not sure of her name but she was absolutely lovely, so friendly and helpful, definitely the most pleasant member of staff we came across during our stay which is a shame as last time I felt as if all of the staff had her warmth.
Check out was fine and easy literally just paid the outstanding balance on our bill and we were ready to go. Again last time as we checked out we were given a little paper bag with bottles of water and macaroons for our journey home which I thought was a lovely touch.
All in all I think if it was my first visit I would have really enjoyed it however with last time being so special with such incredible service and everyone going above and beyond my expectations were probably set a little bit higher.

Rooms are lovely and warm but I would definitely take a jumper / cardigan for the bar as I found it a nippy when it was half empty.

Depends what you book. You have the option of either bed and breakfast or dinner included as well Spa packages can be booked separately. I advise booking them prior to arrival as they are always busy
