Natural History Museums
The mission of the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is to inspire appreciation, understanding and stewardship of our natural environment through discovery and learning. The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History integrates the three strands of its organizational identity - as museum of natural history, nature education center, and steward of conservation land. As a small museum of natural history, we will preserve, exhibit, and interpret our own collections of natural history artifacts and display relevant traveling and loan exhibits. We may also collaborate with local and regional organizations on co-sponsored exhibits. As a nature education center, we will engage children and adults in high-quality programs, classes, lectures, panel discussions, workshops, films, walks, field trips, traditions and interactive exhibits that reveal the many facets of the natural world and the reciprocal impacts that humans and nature exert on each other. As befits a nature education center, we will explore our potential as a center for citizen scientists and amateur naturalists, and as a forum for informed discussion of important issues related to the natural world, especially on Cape Cod. As a steward of 400-plus acres of museum-owned land in Stony Brook Valley and Brewster conservation land adjacent to the museum, including Wing's Island, the salt marsh, and the beach along Cape Cod Bay between Quivett and Paine's Creeks, we will monitor and protect the land and focus our programming on its varied habitats - our outdoor classroom and teaching tool. Programs may also take place elsewhere on Cape Cod and in New England when appropriate.

I almost hate the review this beach because I would love for it to remain a secret. Expansive, uncrowded, un-ruined. Rustic with port-a-potties only makes it less popular - Hurray!

Been going to Paine's Creek Beach forever. Beautiful views and lots of space. Great for children for safely wading and collecting shells, etc.

This is a lovely state park right in Cape Cod. There are numerous trails and ponds which makes for a nice area to walk and commune with nature. Beach areas front the lakes. It was not too busy when we were there which was nice.

This is a small museum right in Brewster, but it is worthy. Mostly relating to archaeology and the natural history of the area. One doesn't need a lot of time to visit and enjoy their offerings.

Many travelers miss the libraries of the places they visit, and in my experience, they are some of the best places to see! This library was a savior for me during wet and windy weather while visiting Brewster. The staff is friendly, helpful, and welcoming, and even as a visitor I could get a library card (no fee) and check out DVD's (their DVD collection is massive and there is no fee). They also had a jigsaw table which was a delight! Although the big book sale wasn't happening, they did have a good assortment of books for sale on a bookshelf near the front desk. I also noticed a huge children's room with books and activities. Hats off to Brewster Ladies' Library for providing such a thoroughly enjoyable library experience to locals and visitors alike.

This was a bonus historical find in the back of the neighborhood right off 6A. So fascinating to see how things worked historically.

A beautiful house, furnished lovingly in gorgeous pieces appropriate to the time. We were a small group spending our weekend at Craigville and they gave us a private tour on Saturday. Our docent, Mrs. Locke, new everything about the place and was so enthusiastic and excited to tell us all about the mansion and its history and about the builder and his story. I would recommend this tour to anyone who loves old mansions and their history. The grounds are beautiful and you can stroll down to the beach or have a picnic there. They will rent the place out for events and have a large gathering hall. There are bathrooms on the first floor but no elevators. The tour encompasses three floors but you are allowed to sit down on the furniture if you need to. It is well worth a climb to the third floor!
There are no ropes or chains or "peek inside only" rooms. We loved it!

My mother and I visited the Sydenstricker Gallery in March of 2022. We were looking for a Bridal Shower gift that would remind my nephew of his visits to Cape Cod. I have some Sydenstricker pieces and love them, Hannah took us on a personal tour of the collection and explained about the new colorful patterns and techniques for celebrity art. She made us feel excited about just being there! We really enjoyed the time!

A small but well-planned and informative museum full of local history. There are often volunteers present who add the personal touch to the information on the signs.

We visited this beach at dusk around 1.5 hours before low tide. Where you would usually be able to walk out yards from shore there was snow and ice. Like a winter wonderland. Very neat!
