Fortunately, the weather favored us; this time there was no rain, no hail, but a spectacular clear sky until late afternoon. In a holiday season, like this one, it is common to observe an important concentration of tourists, some in comfortable cars or couples in high-displacement bikes. Therefore, it still amazes us to see some crazy people arrive by bicycle. It is fun to appreciate how they observe you and even approach you as if you were a being from another planet. Enjoy the landscape until you reach the site can be more rewarding than the site itself, unless it has recently snowed. If you are acclimated to exercise at high elevations, a trip to the picturesque town of Piñango is a fantastic option. Also, if you like hiking, you can do from there spectacular routes through the Sierra de La Culata National Park. It is highly recommended to protect yourself from the low temperatures in a tropical environment and the wind chill effect.

A place with much love and enough to do for a whole day. I can especially recommend this place for families. The owner and employers all love their job and what they do. You can buy drinks and snacks along the way while you experience Venezuela from the past.
    All in all muy lindo!

This park's campus was very very large and I was fascinated to see the myriad collection of antique cars, instruments and canons here.

This lake is beautiful. We went twice in a week. The first time we went, the weather was very cold, 38 degrees Fahrenheit and it was very misty and foggy. We came back in two days and it was sunny 45 degrees and I see beautiful view.

A 20 + minute tram ride to the top, may be done in sections. Take warm clothing, it can be very cold in Oct.

A good camera is a necessity, you may have to wait for the clouds to blow off.

Stop to see the twin lakes. It is a very long walk back up from the lakes. Especially in the thin air, I learned!

If you have Ceduela (ID), you pay much less.

Get a guide to help and explain everything, I suggest Gravity Tours two blocks away, I loved them.

Located across the plaza Bolivar, This cathedral has several historic style mix into one. Overall, it's one of the most beautiful cathedral I've been in the world, and it has to be the prettiest cathedral in Venezuela.

Great trails with small waterfalls. Cages are small, but the animals are well treated. We take our grand kids a few times a year.

The Botanical Garden was not what I had expected, but it's certainly a beautiful and serene place to visit. You can prepare a picnic to take with you and sit on the grass near one of the ponds. The flowers were not in bloom when we visited. As far as I can tell, the park doesn't constantly rotate their flowers to accommodate the season, but I have to admit I like that. The gardens are well-maintained but they let nature take its course. Something I wasn't expecting was the zipline and obstacle course in the gardens! This was a fun and mildly challenging adventure. There are two courses -- go for the extreme one! I was very lucky that I didn't have to employ too much of my rudimentary Spanish, as the course staff were happy and eager to help me in English. They were fun, encouraging, and professional. The course itself is well maintained. It'll get your adrenaline going for sure, but don't worry about it being too challenging. My mom pushed me to do the extreme course with her; she's 58 years old and crossed the whole thing in sandals!

I am from Merida and never get tired of visiting this destination over and over. It's one of my favorite spots to visit. Great food, great souvenirs and fruits and produce, all pretty accesible. They don't speak English tho, so please make sure bring someone who speaks it with you and local currency

Beautiful scenic drive. If you are in town to visit Merida, take a half day to drive up to Paramo La Culata, the drive is beautiful.

Every town village and city in Venezuela has a square and plaza dedicated to the great liberator Bolivar. This one is very pleasant and attracts tourists and locals alike. Due to its altitude Merida has a beautifully cool climate making this area perfect for sitting and taking in the sites and people.

you should know the history of Juan Felix Sanchez and his contributions for Merida culture. Next to the church there is a museum.
