So we'd read some good reviews of this museum and from the outside you don't necessarily get a scale of how big this place is inside. But once you're inside, you do get an impression of how the aristocracy of old used to live a far better life than all the other minions, because the size alone of this palace and all it's different parts from basement up to the top level is insane.

The palace is located in the centre of Piacenza so is easily accessible from other key tourist spots like the pretty cathedral. It has now been split into several individual museums, so once you've paid your very reasonable entry fee, you could spend as little as an hour, or easily all day walking through the different sections of the various buildings, which also surround a large inner courtyard, which I believe is used for events including weddings and is a beautiful and majestic setting.

The museums are well staffed and in certain parts we actually had a member of the team explaining what we were seeing and where we should walk to next to ensure we didn't mess some of the best bits. The artwork and artefacts held here are stunning, some of them no doubt are almost priceless as they are irreplaceable and represent important parts of Italy's history, or that of the country before it even joined up to become what is now known as Italy. (the only downside is that the staff couldn't really speak English but this didn't detract from the amazing exhibits). Indeed, one of the most fascinating parts of the museum was the old carriages museum which was a whole part of the museum dedicated to the mostly horse drawn carriages used by royalty and aristocracy back in the day. And the quality of paintings and vases and weapons in this museum is incredible.

Genuinely one of the most impressive and more unique museums I've ever been to, and a must-see for any visitors to Piacenza.

Beautiful piazza with Palazzo Gotico and two impressive bronze equestrian statues by Francesco Mochi representing two Farnese noblemen. There are also cafes nearby for drinks and lunch. When we visited the piazza it was very quiet and hardly any other tourists.

Nice place to visit the people spot in piacenza with some cool coffees and shops. We stop there for a coffee and enjoy the early day sun light and come back in night to explore but it was like a ghost place!!

A little bit far from the city center but definitely worth the effort. An artistic and architectural gem with an important historical significance.

If you would like an overview about the Italian pre and post-impressionism, you will find it here. The gallery is wonderful, not only the paintings, but the building itself too. Congratulation!

Beautiful building with an interesting history: its completion was halted by a plague and only one side was built. It stands in the central Piazza Cavalli and it is now the Municipal building. The bottom part of the building is made of pink marble stones and the top is made of red bricks. In a niche in the facade there is a statue of the Holy Virgin, it's a copy of the original made in the 13th century and currently kept in a local museum.

These are two beautiful bronze statues in the central Piazza Cavalli in Piacenza. They sit on a marble base that has other bronze decorations and represent Alessandro Farnese and his son Ranuccio.

I wound strongly recommend a visit to Fondazione Alberoni if you are in Piacenza. It is a beautiful place in itself to visit and has a small but precious collection of pictures belonged to Cardinal Alberoni. Among others, you may find the famous Eccentric Homo of Antonello da Messina, this is a masterpiece. It worth going there only to see this. If you are pilgrims on the Via Francigena, it is very practical to visit because it is on the way. Be careful because it is open only in the afternoon. The guided tour is done by motivated, passionate and professional guides. Don’t miss it!!

The church was consecrated back in the Xth century. The crypt has 12th-century mosaics depicting the zodiac signs on a marine background. The presbytery has a contemporary mosaic showing battle scenes and a depiction of Christ.
