A school trip to Germany for a month included a trip up into the roof and bell chamber of the Dom as part of some special tour arrangements for our students.

Knowledgeable and well connected with the students, the guides were locals with an impressive historical knowledge.

    Thoroughly recommend a visit here

Our family recently visited Blocbuster in Paderborn and had a wonderful experience which is worth sharing. As we have a large number of young children, we are generally unable to visit bouldering halls, together as a family, due to their regulations (eg: one adult required per child).

I had only been bouldering at Blocbuster for a few weeks, when the staff heard that our family rarely climbs together (reasons noted above); they warmly welcomed us to visit them as a family (Uwe, thank you!).

Worth noting: there is a special room in the middle of the hall, specifically designed for small children. This room has a little climbing wall for toddlers. There is a baby change table, many children's books and toys to entertain children who may not want to climb, but remain occupied so their parents/guardians can climb.

An awesome bouldering hall for families ---> 10/10

I've been to the Heinrich Nixdorf Museum a few times and was never disappointed. It's not just educational, it's a lot of fun with many interactive displays and games.

While it's all about technology you don't have to be tech-savvy to enjoy the experience. My understanding of technology goes as far as being able to use the microwave, yet I truly enjoyed every visit to the HNM.

Highly recommend. For a free attraction, there’s a lot to see and do. There’s also the lovely ice cream parlours, bistros and restaurants in the area.

The museum is very worth the trip if you are Tractor Mad or Farming background. All German machines, didn't see any none German made, some very unusual and rare. Also nice model layouts including one of Lanz factory, now John Deere. Visited in July 2014 with 14 year old son.

The palace museum is hosting a superb selection and collection of items found in Paderborn which showcase the towns history.
At the very bottom of the building some old stair lead to one of the Pader river’s springs in an old cave.

Although it's not the easiest place to find (in a back street) - this house is worth seeking out! Unfortunately, it wasn't open when we visited, so I can't commnet on the interiors, but I'll bet they are worth seeing too!!

This museum, housed in a rather forbidding looking building, is surprisingly light and airy inside, and has some choice items on display.

The giant, framed bobbin lace was astoundingly detailed. Amazing it had survived in that condition all those years. I've tried my hand at filet crochet and can only marvel at the singlemindedness it took to create and assemble that masterwork.

There are two gorgeous silver statues that had large rock crystal reliquaries on their chest.

The exhibition of bishops capes and mitres from the 15th century to current times was phenomenal. Only because they were treasured religious objects in their own right have they survived so long. You really have to look for the door to this exhibit, byw, because it is designed to keep damaging light out.

The exhibition of caskets and tiny altar boxes downstairs was simply amazing as well. I'm afraid I tend to think of someone in the 11th century practically running around in animal skins, but to then come face up against such craftsmanship and delicacy is breathtaking- and disconcerting!

Finally a highlight for me was the exhibit on calligraphy. Materials and a terrific video demonstrate the techniques used to create illuminated manuscripts. I could have watched that all day.

Be sure to look for peacocks throughout the museum. The peacock is the emblem of the patron saint of Paderborn, Liborius.

One short warning. All displays, etc are in german. I tried to use the Google translate app on an exhibition card, and upset a guard who thought I was photographing priceless treasures. Hopefully after demonstrating the app, they'll either loosen up- or provide some translations. I would still recommend going. Even with the language barrier, the beautiful presentation of these spectacular treasures made it worth it.

A great place to just sit back and relax after shopping or sightseeing and take a well earned drink or if the weather is warmer an ice cream.
