Fantastic architecture enhanced with the water mirror in front of it. Best visited at night when the lights pop out more.

A great visitor experience. Even the most knowledgeable wine buff will learn something new.
Architecturally wonderful – the building is said to represent the swirl of wine in a glass beside the flowing river. Good views over Bordeaux. We visited in December and it was busy. It must be really crowded in the tourist season when advance booking must surely be recommended.
We thoroughly enjoyed our morning there and will return.

We always make it a point to tour the cathedrals of the cities we are visiting in Europe - they are always in the center of town and usually open during our walks. St.Andre is, of course impressive, but there was nothing of distinction, particularly on the interior. We toured the cathedral in Bayonne the following day as we traveled to Donostia and it was far more interesting and impressive.

This was our first tour at the beginning of our Bordeaux trip. We were able to see how the area and its trade history developed into a main hub of European wines. Lovely exhibits of original photos, artifacts etc. Definitely worth a visit!!

On a whim, we booked this Chateau and stayed for a night. Oh my goodness… we had no idea what a wonderful experience we were in for! The Chateau and grounds are amazing! We were greeted by a wonderful hostess and a glass of wine, then showed around the Chateau and explained the history which was so interesting and impressive. Personal collections of items are out for you to enjoy… from the Baccarat chandelier to Napoleon’s chairs, a plate made by Picasso, and original artwork. It was staggering! Our room was beautiful and comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was out of this world, home made breads, jams, granola, eggs, cheese & meat plate, fruit, yogurt and a delicious latte. We couldn’t even eat it all! To top it off, a handwritten note from Bernard Magrez. Every minute was just beautiful. I wish we could have stayed longer - but now that we know of this wonderful place, we will be back again & again!!

Spanning the mighty Gironde river, this impressive & very long bridge, is the entrance to Bordeaux.
Built in 1822, it was the first in the city.

Knockout. An extrordinary place, four huge submarine bays, still filled with water, with walkways between, lit by a huge dynamic 3-d illumination of world-famous artworks. it is unique.

On the day we visited, it was Dali, l'egnime sans fin'. His artworks are perfect for such a setting: the surreal imposed upon the surreal.

And even more powerful considering that this base was built by the Axis for one purpose, for war. It's dull inside to maximise the effect of the extraordinary show, but if you look carefully, you might notice signs or instructions here and there, in traditional German script, painted onto the walls by the Nazis. Eerie to a point but a powerful repurposing for good over evil.

After a fire destroyed the city’s main theatre in 1756, the Grand Théâtre was constructed between 1773 and 1780 by architect Victor Louis.

Described as a masterpiece of European architecture, it is located in the beautiful and central Place de la Comédie. Neoclassical in style, it evokes musings of ancient architecture thanks to its Corinthian columns. The Grand Théâtre is fronted by a columned portico, with 12 impressive Corinthian columns adorning its façade. The portico is crowned by 12 stone statue representing goddesses and muses -9 muses and 3 goddess – Minerva, Venus and Juno.

I was surprised to discover that it served as inspiration for designing the Paris opera house as the staircase served as a model for the Opera Garnier in Paris.

Our guide explained that thanks to precise acoustic calculations, the theater auditorium is famous for its excellent acoustics.

It is no coincidence that the French National Assembly moved here when Paris was occupied by the Prussians during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871.

Unfortunately, we could not view the interior, perhaps this will be a reason to return to Bordeaux.

Surprisingly, once we walked around the building, we found it to be domed, however, if you stand far enough back on Allées de Tourny you can snap a great picture of this architectural beauty.

Today the theatre is the seat of the Opéra National de Bordeaux.

The park is relatively central in Bordeaux but it is very pleasant to visit. Although it was an extremely hot day with 40c heat there was thankfully quite a bit of shade.

The Natural History Museum is also nearby which is worth a visit afterwards.
