What travelers are saying
- SpaStruckSurreySurrey236 contributionsWe hadn’t been to Dawyck before and loved our first visit. The lady at the desk told us the garden is a major place for trees but we really enjoyed seeing the banks of snowdrops, walking across the Dutch bridge and enjoying strolling along the pathways around what opened up into a huge garden area. Coming back inside we finished off in the cafe, where there was a choice of fresh scones. - Travel27515521236Llanelli, UK1 contributionWe are from West Wales and the views were amazing and contrasting with what we were used to. Everyone we met was talkative, friendly and welcoming. A greal break. We stayed in the 'mcdonald Hotel & Golf Course and walked into Peebles on Monday 1st Jan. Please note the reception description was wrong and you should turn left on leaving the Hotel main entrance and bear left through the greens to the path to Peebles.Written January 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ana M1 contributionWe had an unforgettable stay at Neidpath castle. Lulu was a wonderful host and a wealth of knowledge, one of those people you meet and never forget. Neidpath offers a special experiance and I would highly recommend a visit if you are looking for a unique castle stay.Written January 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - plymouthPlymouth, Devon 1,419 contributionsQuite simply, excellent. A well laid out tribute to the life and work if John Buchan. We knew quite a lot about the man but learned more and it was interesting to hear the very welcoming volunteer on the admission desk talking to later entrants who knew nothing about John Buchan. A must see attraction but note limited opening hours.Written July 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Derek PLanark, UK399 contributionsAn excellent tarmac track from Peebles runs 7miles eastwards to Innerleithen (and beyond to Walkerburn). Shown at picture 3 below. It's essentially flat except for a short climb from the main road to access the start of the cycle path near Peebles hydro. Then there is a short whizz descent through a tunnel under the main road - that tunnel isn't well lit so take care.
There is a short busy on-road section from Kingsmeadow car park (where I started) through the town. But you can cross the Priorsford footbridge over the Tweed at Kingsmeadow and cut through the Gytes to the main road as an alternative. (pictured at photo 1). Finding the start of the cycle path isn't easy - it's tucked away off the main road - check that you know where it is. There is another brief on-road section through Cardrona village - traffic here is very light so no real problem. There is a fine new bridge over the Tweed (see picture 2) just south of Cardrona.
There is a pleasant cafe (Nashy's) more or less halfway right beside the cycle path at Cardrona where my daughter and I had a coffee and cake.
It's a very pleasant route with occasional views of the river, suitable for young children (my daughter was 10) as long as you take care in the tunnel and watch out for dogs with irresponsible owners.
Extending the route to Walkerburn makes it 9 miles each way - allow an hour plus for that if with younger children.Written May 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Only negative point concerned the siting of the walks information board at the Buzzard's Nest car park. We came in from the Janet's Brae side and found it really difficult to locate the boards showing the walking trails. The boards referencing the bike trails were immediately obvious and very informative, but not so the ones advising on the location of the walking trails - in fact we only located them after chatting with one of the wardens who happened to be passing through the car park. Once we had found the board there were no complaints from us regarding the signing of the trails thorough the forest itself, these were clear and easily found and there is a very good variety of trails available.Written May 12, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Albert HCounty Durham, UK28 contributionsThis is a lovely quaint little square, lovely war memorial with seating, which would be lovely to sit there in the warm weather for some quiet time. - Cate B2 contributionsWe booked our shooting experience for my partner's 40th birthday and Jamie made the entire experience so wonderful! He was so communicative, professional, flexible and informative during the booking process. His directions to the location were spot on accurate. It will feel like you are about to get lost, but read and follow his directions and you will be great!!
Now for the actual shooting...I am not an expert in any shape or form, but by the end of our experience Jamie had me shooting flying clay targets left and right! Literally! What could have been an easily frustrating experience as a complete and total beginner has only left with nothing but positive things to say about shooting. Jamie's reassurance and calm, helpful instruction gave me the confidence needed to trust myself and hit the tiny moving targets with such ease! He also knew exactly how to assist my partner, Joe, who was much more experienced with shooting, just not with clay targets in being able to hit them every time. Jamie is a delightfully intuitive instructor and made this whole experience amazing for us both!
Also, his two dogs Keviah and Kenzie were a delight to have around and I couldn't help but take pictures of them!Written February 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The gallery may be small, but that just added to the cosy atmosphere. I wasn't crowded and the art on display was vibrant and exciting. Vivid bright colours as well as very effective lighting brought everything alive. Not withstanding Terry's and Moy's non stop chatting too.
To summarise, a great experience.Written March 15, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Jim is very knowledgeable and gives great advice on what suits. If it’s a cheap IKEA frame you want then go there but you won’t be disappointed by paying the extra at this gallery. It’s on the high street next to the estate agent and down a close.Well worth it.Written May 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
