On our day trip to the Bolaven Plateau, we have several waterfalls pinned on the map. A couple were underwhelming and the rest we gave up going because the road was very dusty and rough, we don't want to risk getting a flat tire in the middle of nowhere.

Tad Gneuang was the best waterfall we've seen. The fee was 20,000 kip per person and 5,000 kip for the motorcycle. From the parking area, there are souvenir shops and restaurant. Then there's the stream and a lot of areas to waddle and swim. We walked farther and found the steps that lead us to the bottom of the waterfalls. It's majestic and worth every penny, time and effort.

Please take your trash with you and throw them properly. It's disappointing to see trash scattered around.

We are three girls who booked the 3 days/2 nights tree top explorer tour. We had an amazing experience in the magical rainforest in Paksong. The ziplining was incredible and we enjoyed it to the fullest. The staff was really sweet and helpful and we felt very safe the whole time. Our english speaking guide did a great job teaching us about the culture and nature of Laos. The food was delicious, local lao food made by the sweetest staff. We had a really good time and will recommend everyone to book this trip!

My wife and I did the 4 day tour of S.Laos out of Pakse in late November, 2019. It was excellent.

Alex was easy to deal with by email and we had made the bookings and payment months in advance of our trip to Laos. He always responded promptly to emails from me and let us know how the arrangements were progressing for the tour.

Due to lack of other bookings, our group tour ended up being a private tour with just the two of us and our guide, Tam, as well as the driver of the van. Tam was brilliant. He spoke English fluently and was great at providing information about the sites we were seeing.

The tour covered everything we wanted to see in Southern Laos and I'm not sure there was anything else that one might want to have seen added to the tour in any way. We always had the sense with Tam that he had a feel for how long we wanted to spend at a destination and either added or shortened time as was appropriate. Just what you want a tour guide to do really.

We NEVER went to any gift shops where you know guides are getting a commission and that again a huge plus compared to so many tours we have done elsewhere.

My only bit of a constructive feedback I would offer to Xplore Asia and Alex is to perhaps work on their website a bit as it was a bit confusing initially with Xplore-Asia having a separate website from Xplore-Laos and different LAOS tours listed on the two different websites . I'd suggest you might lose potential bookings by not making sure all tours are listed in both places.

Oh, and also perhaps worth mentioning that a good level of fitness is required to do the tour. Lots of walking involved and if you aren't comfortable climbing the odd steep hill, you are going to miss out in some places (e.g. Wat Phou in particular is impossible unless you can walk and climb hills).

Hotels are not 5 star but we never expected that level of comfort.

Other than that, all I can conclude with is a final two words: BOOK THEM!

The experience was a little bit underwhelming for me on this 3 day / 2 night Mekong River cruise. There is not much cruising but a lot of hours in long boats getting to / from the main boat at the beginning & end.

The big boat itself is comfortable & beautifully restored in nice timbers. There are 12 cabins which are surprisingly large with a double bed, cupboard & a good size bathroom with a walk in shower. The bed has a douve on it goodness knows why as it’s so hot in Lao. I pulled it out & just used the cover on top of me. There is thankfully air conditioning in the room & wifi throughout. But the wifi is slow & only good for emailing. There two big relaxing decks where meals and drinks are served. There are two guest cabins on the main deck & 10 cabins on the lower deck. It is well worth going for the two upper deck cabins number 11 or 12.

The food on board was excellent, variety of tasty dishes & always too much.

There is really only one main day of cruising on the main boat which is pleasant but the river has very little activity to view. The banks of the river have farms but they all look a bit the same. There are two main stops on different days to look at ancient Hindu ruins particularly the famous Vat Phou. But it’s very small in comparison to Angkor Wat although the history is interesting.

You can take the cruise up stream or down stream. I did upstream which I think is a bit more enjoyable as you do the two main long boat rides (which were a bit uncomfortable for my liking) on the first day. And the rest of the journey is more relaxing.

Our guide was informative but he has been on the boat for too many years so the commentary lacks any enthusiasm or warmth.

If you are after a relaxing couple of days enjoying the scenery on the Mekong & the food on the boat then this is a nice excursion for a couple of days in Southern Lao.
