A stunning display to wander through....who knew there were so many different varieties of tulips!!
We visited on what should have been the final day, but the weather had allowed an 7 day extension to the viewing dates, so we were able to see the front field which had just passed its peak bloom and then walk further through the farm, to see a rear field in full flower - just spectacular sea of colour, especially with the stunning backdrop of the Table Cape Lighthouse.
A bucket-list visit for me, but even non-flower lovers would see the beauty of this place!

Views were great, cliffs were interesting, spent half an hour here. The tiny shell fossils are embedded into the mud and cliff face rocks. There's a relatively easy walk up the lookout to a benchseat on top of the hill. The carpark is huge so there was plenty of space for everyone.

The foundation stone for the church was laid in May 1911 by Archbishop Delany from Hobart, and the church opened and was dedicated in October 2012, the ceremony performed by Monsignor Gilleran. It replaced a modest structure that was constructed and consecrated in 1876.
The local priest, Fr. Thomas Joseph O'Donnell, decided that the district warranted a new and larger church and set about realising the funds required. I couldn't find any information on who designed the building but when you stand it front of it in Wynyard, it looks cathedrallike. The story goes that the the bishop considered the proposed church too grandiose for a Catholic minority parish and directed O'Donnell to have the scale of the building reduced. When the Archbishop returned to Hobart, O'Donnell relocated the foundation stone and ignored the directive. The church is Romanesque style and is considered unique in Tasmania although there are other similar designs. Perhaps its the dimensions, the cupola on the tower, whatever, the capacious building is an imposing edifice in the town.

The present St. Stephen's dates to 1919 with the laying of the foundation. It was the third church built for the Anglican community and was consecrated in 1920. Designed by Alexander North and supervised by Frank Heyward. The bricks were made locally, also the reinforced concrete elements of the structure. The style is based on that of early English parish churches with lancet windows and a crenellated tower. When construction finished, all involved had been paid and its considered one of very few churches in Tasmania to achieve this.
