The University of Chicago was created and gifted by John D Rockefeller, one of the wealthiest people to ever live. For decades it has been a worldwide research leader in so many fields. As an economics major, so much of my studies in the 1980s were derived from Milton Friedman and the Economics School here.

Most people are totally unaware that the roots of the university are from the American Baptist Education Society as Rockefeller was a devoted Baptist. This Gothic Revival Church commands a prominent position on the SE corner of the campus. At 200 feet it is by covenant to be the tallest structure on campus. Additionally is a self supported structure with no steel, like the medieval cathedrals of Europe.

Unfortunately, we walked the campus before 10 so the Chapel was not opened. Still it was an impressive site on its exterior.

So you want to attend the Chicago Marathon? We wanted to attend, because my son was running it for the first time and his friend was on his 6th. First, the course is planned out pretty well and it appears that most everything has been thought of. There are port-a-potties everywhere. There is unlimited space for viewing. And, Bank of America has put together a phone app that was extraordinary. Besides giving plenty of information about times to be there and places to be, it has an exceptional tracking section. We were able to monitor their progress throughout. We found that of the four places that we watched, the app was only off by a half of block on just one of those viewing opportunities. So, seven of us started out to find viewing places and the night before we plotted out a course of action, with a "Plan B:" The first thing that is important to realize is that you can not drive through the course, so in order to get to different viewing areas, you have to drive on the surface street on the outskirts of the course. We were advised to use Uber or the "El", but once we started we realized that those two modes weren't going to work well. The thing to remember is that there are a lot of runners, so you have a choice - to sit at one spot and watch tens of thousands of runners go by, or to pick out a couple of spots and work your way around to them, while monitoring the tracking app, to see your specific runners. So, we headed for Addison St. and Broadway Ave., first. We found a spot to park and decided to leave one person with the car. There really is an ebb and flow among the spectators, so what is a crowded spot may not be for long. Our second spot was Adams St. and Ashland Ave., at M.M. 15. At this second spot, we were only able to view my son, as his friend had worked his way ahead. Again, we parked less than a block away and someone stayed with the car. Our 3rd choice was at Canalport and Cermak Rd. At this area, the neighborhood was a bit more desolate,. When we parked the car, we were very close and all of us were able to catch my son, as he went by. This was the one spot that the tracking off was a bit off. The final viewing area was the spectator area at the finish line at Roosevelt Rd. and Michigan Ave. We weren't able to park as close, but most of us did get to see my son as he came past the spectator area. The starting area is not a good spot to see your runner, there are far too many people. - in 2019, a mere 45,786 participants! With our planning, we were able to view my son running at four different spots. My grandkids loved to watch their Dad and uncle and the three of them had different signs that they had made the night before. It was a fun day. And the weather was nice. It never rained, it was not hot and muggy and it was a comfortable day for running. All in all, a lot of fun,

We enjoyed this urban trail for three days in a row. It does get busy, but it is walkers, joggers and bikers only. The neighborhood has shops, restaurants, apartments, houses. We enjoyed this 2.7 mile trail very much and will return whenever we are in the area. I recommend!

The Bridgehouse Museum is located in one of four classic structures that "guard" each end of the bridge on Michican Avenue as it crosses the Chicago River. Each structure is decorated with sculpture. Their height is deceptive at street level because Wacker Drive is elevated. The "house" on the east side of Wacker and Michigan contains the river museum that is entered at the lower level along the river. Unfortunately, it was closed today in preparation for upcoming Halloween festivities, but one was still able to enjoy the impressive structures. In fact, the evening before, they stood out even more sharply with all the night lighting along the river and streets.

We attended the tribute to earth, wind, and fire this past weekend, and it was absolutely fabulous. All of the artists are extremely talented, with a special bow to the character who played Philip Bailey. What a gift!!! This is our second time going, and I would recommend this to anyone. It’s extremely affordable, and they could honestly charge more. We loved it.

Chicago is known as a "City of Churches," from Holy Name Cathedral to Old St. Patrick's Cathedral to Fourth Presbyterian Church to St. Michel's to Stanislaus Kostka Parish. Since the late 1800s, after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the city's large Polish community established several magnificent churches in the West Town, Avondale, Old Town and Bucktown neighborhoods. One of the most prominent is St. John Cantius Church. Located at 825 North Carpenter Street, at Fry, it is a landmark in West Town, the closest of all the Polish Cathedral style churches to Chicago's downtown area. Known for its architecture, liturgical practices and affiliation with the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius, it is one of the many Polish churches that overlook the nearby Kennedy Expressway. With its 130-foot-tall tower, it is readily seen from the highway. The unique baroque interior has remained intact for more than a century and is reminiscent of the spectacular art and architecture of 18th century Krakow. The church came into being in 1892 when Polish immigrants petitioned the pastor of St. Stanislaus Kostka, the first Polish church in the Archdiocese, for a new church. Designed by Adolphus Druiding, it took five years to complete the construction. Built of rusticated limestone and brick, the edifice is 230 feet long and 107 feet wide and has a capacity of 2,000 parishers. Atop the building is a monumental pediment decorated with the coat of arms of Poland's railed January Uprising, under which is found the inscription "Boze Zbaw Polske" or God Save Poland in Polish. Like St. Michael's in Old Town, the entrance is flanked by two asymmetrical towers topped with copper cupolas, 200 feet and 100 feet in height and styled after St. Mary's Basilica in Krakow. The church's main altar, as well as its matching two side altars, are said to originate from Chicago's 1893 Columbian Exposition. More recently, in 1997, an inlaid hardwood floor was installed with 16 varieties of wood from around the world. The only hardwood floor of its kind in the United States, the inlaid medallions in the main aisle tell the story of salvation: Jesus' birth, the arrival of the three Kings, Christ's suffering, the Resurrection and Christ is the Light of the World. In addition, a permanent exhibit of sacred and priceless art is located in the church's north tower. It includes a Neapolitan creche from Rome and several hundred authenticated relics of saints.

Fun, interactive exhibits where you learn something about human behavior and likely things about your own. Free and enlightening. Bright and friendly space. On MI Ave- across from Art Institute. Would be fun with a partner or friend group- gave us much to talk about. If there's time and you're inclined- you can participate in short research studies. We'll go back.

A Frank Lloyd Wright inspired garden, in the middle of the city, by the lake. Just a fantastic place to visit and sit around. One of the quintessential part of Chicago!

Art Deco Skyscraper built in 1930 is a National Historic Landmark. It stands at the end of the Lasalle Canyon which is made up of other historic building of note. Recognizable from its frequent use in the Batman movies. Just one of the many skyscrapers in Chicago that adds to the city's justified claims as having some of the most interesting architecture of any city in the world.

One of the best neighborhoods in Chicago to find restaurants, bars, bookstores and lots of art in a wide variety of venues. Great food, great art, fun browsing the stores.

The Chicago Blues Festival is awesome! Been there a couple times in recent years. From the small stage to the main stage, the variety of musical acts--from local to national acts and some internationally known performers--playing and singing the blues is terrific. Situated in Millenium Park in the heart of downtown Chicago...and is free to attent, this festival is not to be missed. Sitting on the grass or in the theatre in the Pritzker Pavilion listening to music while surrounded by fresh air, skyscrapers, and city traffic is the bomb! Make your plans to attend next year! And squeeze in a visit to the Art Institute or the Chicago Cultural Center, both just across the street. Food and drink vendors on site. Lots of parking nearby.

We attended a taping of the NPR program, "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me . . . " at the Studebaker Theater in the Fine Arts Building. The Theater has a small venue vibe, but seats about 700 people. The architecture of the building and the theater are gorgeous, displaying old-world craftsmanship that is no longer seen in today's structures. The intricate details of the carvings and inlays are a feast for the eyes.

There was a small concession stand set up during our visit. I do not know if it was part of the Theater or part of the NPR presentation, but the pricing was rather high. Our group purchased 3 waters (2 still, 1 sparkling), 2 candy bars, and 1 bag of chips. Even allowing for the fact that the 2 still waters came in reusable metal bottles, our meager purchases set us back $32 after leaving a small tip.

Two of the three members of our party used the restrooms during our visit. There are two single-stall, ADA-compliant restrooms on the same level as the theater, but the main restrooms are located in the basement of the building underneath the theater. Due to the limited restroom facilities on the main level, the wait to use them was rather long. This may be a challenge for visitors that cannot access the basement restrooms due to mobility limitations. The two members of our party that used the restrooms did go to the basement, and one person reported that the stairs were slightly steeper than most stairways being installed today.

The performance we attended was fantastic, although that is more a function of the presenting group than the theater itself. While our experience with this venue is limited, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We look forward to returning to experience some of the other activities that take place in the building, not just in the theater.
