- ShanelleSanta Monica, CA2,806 contributionsCame here for about three hours to spend time in an air conditioned space during a hot Saturday afternoon. It’s $20 for non-residents and a student discount is offered if you have ID. Credit cards and cash accepted. They do allow backpacks and drinks inside. Bathrooms are located on the first level and were very clean. The exhibits went very in-depth into the history of the canal and there was another exhibit about the biodiversity on one of Panama’s islands and another on Panamanian history. There were some English descriptions but it was mainly in Spanish. It was an interesting space to be in and you learn a lot about history while you’re there. No need to buy tickets ahead of time; there was no line and the process of going through a brief security check and buying the tickets was smooth.Written February 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Adriana MMexico City, Mexico79 contributionsExcellent biodiversity museum, very interactive for kids, they loved it. Loved the fish tanks and the explanation of how Panama came to beWritten February 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kmlbarArlington, MA11 contributionsAlthough a rather small museum it is well worth stopping by. The cultural history of the Molas and the indigenous peoples of Panama is fascinating. It's nice how they have worked in the history. The guides were super knowledgeable and able to answer all of my questions in English. The English language signage is very good and all the exhibits are informative. FYI, museum closes at 4:30 during the week, 5Pm on weekends... some guidebooks have it as 5:00 all the time.Written March 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Susan R11 contributionsWhat a pleasant surprise this place was! Be sure to schedule a private tour with Edna in advance so you can truly enjoy and understand the historical significant of the findings on her property. Edna was exceptionally friendly and the visit was one of the highlights of our time in Volcan. Her property is beautiful and rich with history. I highly recommend you schedule a visit the next time you're there!Written February 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SilverTraveler2Castle Rock, WA233 contributionsWhat a lovely gallery. Was met by the owner, Carlos, who is very gracious and inviting. Very nice mixture of antiques, art, and one of a kind souvenirs. No pressure and he's very happy for you just to look around. Highly recommend that you visit.Written August 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- He built a nice hotel with the prison theme (we are environmental sinners and staying there will earn us our redemption)Written January 5, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ElissaLos Angeles, CA595 contributionsBeautiful gallery. I had read about Karavan in my Lonely Planet Central America book prior to coming to Panama. I envisioned a large store with many items to purchase, but there was little to buy. Nonetheless, I walked out with two large, beautiful pieces. It is more expensive than going to the Embera community, but the Embera communities sell smaller items so if you're looking for something larger like I was, it's definitely worth the stop.Written December 26, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Beebster 2021Washington DC, DC146 contributionsThe guide spoke english and was very informative.I learned so much history and he dedicated 45 minutes to going over the history and I read more when I returned to the hotel. Panama should invest and improve the condition of the building- this is an amazing resource to panama of a history often untold!Written October 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AlmostbrokenCalgary, Canada22 contributionsThis was a very good way to see what the Smithsonian is doing here. Our guide was pleasant and informative during the hour we spent with her. We have never been so close to a Caiman but given it was only a foot long not much of a threat! The flora and fauna on their grounds was nicely discussed. We learned there are jellyfish that stay attached to the bottom and don’t float on top of which they are poisonous.
This is a good choice for spending a lazy hour one afternoon.Written January 17, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Only US$ 2. Better spend your money there than on walking trails and waterfalls!Written December 12, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. More than two hundred soldiers protected this building. Today the building serves as a local museum. I took a few photos of the exterior of the building, which included a couple story boards and a canon.
Between 1739-1742, Edward Vernon attacked Portobelo and destroyed the three forts. The customs building remained intact during these attacks. A couple years later, in 1744, William Kinghills attacked the now defenseless town, and destroyed the customs building and many homes. The restored building today is a reminder of the importance of this small town and it's past glory. f you have time, the museum should be visited, as it will provide additional information on the history of the town.Written July 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's a bit difficult to get to as it's in the middle of traffic circles and highway entrances/exits. We walked from our rooms.
The senior rate was just $2.50! It's all in Spanish but we use our phones to interpret what we didn't understand. Mostly pictures with explanations and a few videos.
Depicts the history of oppression and humans ill will towards each other.
I found it a valuable experience.Written February 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
