- gre294London, UK29 contributionsNeeds a day to visit, and to spare a thought for all who died and suffered here. A very moving experience , Excellent staff and explanation of all things .Written November 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ketoki32 contributionsSimple but beautiful landscape along the both sides of Ilm river with Goethe garden house and Roman house as two anchors, but on the hills there are much more hidden statues and paths.Written May 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David NHawthorne, CA799 contributionsThis is a very impressive museum. The Wohnhaus (house) has extensive exhibits of Goethe's many collections, both of art and natural objects. His biography is quite interesting and he comes to life through the rooms of his house. It is hard to know where to begin with the museum itself. It is amazing. I did not allocate enough time to fully take in all of the exhibitions (and I haven't posted any photos from the museum itself). Each aspect of Goethe's life is organized and depicted with numerous artifacts from clothing to paintings to papers to busts. There is a lot to absorb here and the text is in both English and German. I do heartily recommend the English audio guide as well. I believe this is a must-see on a trip to Weimar.Written July 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Olena SKyiv, Ukraine106 contributionsRokokosaal ( which we visited) was opened in 1766. Around 40,000 books can be found on the shelves today.
It’s worth to visit Weimar because of this library.
Entrance- 8euro. Audio guide is free of charge.
We didn’t take the audio guide. That’s why we spent in this hall only 20 minutes. But it’s totally worth it.
You can enter to this hall every 2 hours. We bought tickets at 13:00 and the entrance for us to the hall was at 14:30. But everyone says this info in the library and warn you. So there is no surprises.Written October 11, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Between the house and the modern museum building in the rear, you can become quite familiar with Schiller's biography and get an introduction to his most famous works. I was very interested in the economics of being an author in this era and how he was able to maintain such an upper class lifestyle. The exhibitions are extensive and the house itself has been renovated to be furnished as accurately as possible to the time of Schiller's residence. You will definitely want to get the English audio guide, which is excellent. They have lockers for your belongings and, of course, a well-stocked gift shop.Written July 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tsvetelinat13201Plovdiv, Bulgaria10 contributionsDuring our trip to Germany we go to Weimar for a day. We go to Schloss Belvedere. It's located 5 km above the city centre. It has beautiful garden known as Russian garden. Unfortunately, it was closed for renovation and we saw it from outside, but it was and amazing structure.Written December 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - hans-jaguarSanta Comba Dao, Portugal22,329 contributionsThe “Markt platz” is located in the Old Town of Weimar, and is called “Markt” and has been one of the most important public spaces in the city since about the year 1300. With the Renaissance buildings on the east side of the market, which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a whole, and other buildings such as the town hall. When it's market time, you should definitely try a "Thuringer Bratwurst" on a bun at one of the many stalls, not to be sneezed atWritten July 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lars PRoende, Denmark62 contributionsReally enjoyed the Neues Museum. Excellent way of telling the history of the beginning of modern Weimar with Belle Epoque and the Nietzsche cult. Recommend buying the ModerneCard with access to both the Neues Museum and the Bauhaus museum (though I preferred the Neues Museum by far).Written July 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - hans-jaguarSanta Comba Dao, Portugal22,329 contributionsThis is the church from “Sao Pedro and Sao Paulo” in Weimar, together with a conhecida like the Herderkirche in the home of Johann Gottfried Herder. It is the most important church building in the city, and is called city church, as opposed to the courtly castle church. It has been a Lutheran parish church since 1525, after the Reformation.Written July 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ketoki32 contributionsThe house is small and scarcely furnished, the garden is more intricate than beautiful. The main attraction came from it`s importance in Goethe`s life and trough this perspective it all became really interesting. I would say the price is a bit too high for such a small exhibition, but it`s a fame factor, I presume.Written May 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ketoki32 contributionsLiszt`s apartment, where he lived until his death, occupy the upper floor and was preserved in it`s original furnishing. Very inspirational place to be and felt as comfortable place to live.
It looks like there was an exhibition on the ground floor of the building, but it was unavailable at the time I was there.Written May 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Of necessity , given the small space , it was a bit crammed and there was not the scope for what you can enjoy in the new building . This concrete bunker did not immediately attract me and like several other reviewers I found the interior a bit stark . However now there is plenty of space to chronicle the history of the movement and display furniture and other artifacts . However I did feel sometimes there wasn't enough to fill the large space . Parts of it were very good and informative but I didn't get a feel of continuity . However the cafe sells nice food !Written September 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
