The New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) rises with its beauty in the center of Lower Saxony capital just by a small pond and big Maschsee Lake.
It's the seat of Municipal government being built in the early 20c, replacing the old medieval Town Hall which is in Altstadt (old town).
Visiting is totally free except climbing the Dome. Amazing and rich in details architecture both, outside and inside.
Most interesting I found four big and precise models of Hannover over ages.
The first is from 1689 as a fortified medieval town. After that two models from 1939 and 1945 show the city before and after WWII when it was totally demolished, and finally the fourth one represents the modern and prosperous city of today.
Free to visit are also terrific mosaics on the first floor.
Climbing the Dome is paying few Euros, but problem is the waiting time (in our case over an hour) so we didn't make it.

Several cities in northern Germany (Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover,...) have such Churches left in the state they were in 1945. Purpose is to remind people on war devastations never to happen again.
Aegidienkirche is set in the very center and there used to be a Church here from 12 century onwards which was several times rebuilt over centuries. Intense allied bombing 1943-45 left the Tower standing but the Church roofless. Beneath the bell tower you can find a bell from Hiroshima as a present from Japanese government.

Next door to the Marktkirche is this medieval Town Hall. It's in classic German red brick with high gables - a very nice and eye catching edifice.
However, I don't know its purpose today as the City offices moved to the imposing new Town Hall. Anyway, a nice photo op while strolling Hannover Altstadt.

This is a classic German central square Church rebuilt in red bricks you're about to see in almost every German town.
Marktkirche means the main Market square Church, so you can easily conclude it's here from the medieval era - in this case from 14 cent.
It's a Protestant Church (with Martin Luther statue in front), so don't expect lavish interiors. Add to that WWII allied bombing devastations and you're about to see a simple, yet beautiful high vaulted Gothic brick interior along with some modern art bronze statues inside and a golden triptych. Anyway, it's worth entering and it's free.

Altstadt is the Old Town in every German town. Usually it is a very picturesque and charming place with historical houses (many of them half timbered), nice restaurants and bars and historic Churches as well. That's also the case here in Hannover.
Everything is neat and clean, and don't forget one thing - it was all demolished to ground after WWII and rebuilt with great care and taste.

Very modern and secure arena. You need to buy a arena card before you buy anything at the arena. A German football spectator is load and drinks beer.

It is a statue you can't miss and worth taking a few minutes to walk around. Consider the history and the role played by this particular individual!

This sculptural ensemble stands in tribute to the Gottingen Seven, the group of seven liberal professors from Göttingen who opposed the attempt of Ernst Augusta to change the constitution of the Kingdom of Hanover. Their stance is considered to be The efforts of the Göttingen Seven outlived each of them, and the forerunner of a liberal republic in Modern Germany.

This platz is best appreciated from a table of the café on one side. The church displaying a triptich by Lucas Cranach is just 100 metres away, round the corner.

The arena is worth a look around for those interested in arenas and can be arranged for those with a business interest in the structure. It is one of many spaces in this area but does handle big events.

Now housing the Univeristy, this building, once a palace, is trully a remarkable site from architectural standpoint. Really worth taking a few metro stops from the city centre to come and see it.

This is another attempt to recreate something of the city that was lost through massive bombings and it certainly is a faithful replica in attempt to link a flattened city to something of its past in this case the philosopher/mathematician Leibniz - even if this isn't the spot that he actually lived.
