Majestic And Iconic Iron Bridge
maj 2018 • Wyjazd w pojedynkę
The Keane Bridge has been serving the people to enter Sylhet since 1936.
One of the notable iconic architecture in greater Sylhet region as well as in Bangladesh. Till today an wonder as this bridge is used mostly by the people through 3 more bridges hanging on Surma river for connecting the city's two hubs.

It was built so meticulously at the cost of 5.6 million TK which is 18 feet wide and length 1150 feet looks like a bow. Steel and iron are the components of this bridge. It was repaired in 1977 as it was damaged during the Independence war of Bangladesh. Unlike other bridges on Surma river, it gives a unique feeling by entering a majestic city with great curiosity and enthusiasm. While crossing the peak point of the bridge, eyes must catch "Ali Amzad Clock" which is just after the "Chadni Ghat". The Keane Bridge slope is so high that rickshaw puller enforces to hire a temporary helper to help him to cross the slope of the bridge at cost 5 TK (2017).

Century Old Bridge!
sty 2018 • Znajomi
The Keane Bridge is popularly known as Surma Bridge as it’s over the Surma River, a notable landmark of Sylhet and called the gateway to Sylhet city. According to the history, the bridge was built in 1936 during British reign and is named after Sir Michael Keane, who was the English Governor of Assam during that time. It is an old iron bridge but still being used mostly by the pedestrians and rickshaws. It’s worth to roaming around the bridge during late afternoon and a walk over it to see the Surma River. There is a Floating restaurant called Surma Cruise, which is a good place to have dinner.

This is a place for hanging out by sitting beside surma river. But usually when we are visiting somewhere we usually don't have much time for hanging out. So it will be wasting of time. But here there is a river cruise restaurant which is a good place to have dinner.

British Raj
maj 2017
A bridge built 200 Years ago during the British Raj, I find it overwhelming every time I cross over it, it's a very powerful feeling crossing over the bridge, I feel how iconic it must have looked when there was not much in sylhet to see, today only rickshaws and bikes are allowed over the bridge and emergency vehicles, it's worth a walk over you get to see the river Surma

Kean Bridge is historical bridge of the city. To see the beauty of Kean Bridge area visitor should go in the evening time. After 5 pm floating food shop set their stall and people come here with family and friends.

SYLHETI BRIDGE...
wrz 2016 • Znajomi
In my recent trip to Bangladesh this bridge was a regular bridge we used to use as a sylheti resident.

Due to the Lord Almighty no tragedies so far bear in mind this bridge was constructed in the colonial times when the british ruled!

Rickshaws everywhere to be seen and hundreds of people on it all the time.

Nothing much to offer but with history.

I sincerely wish the relevant people look into the expiry date of the bridge STOP using it before tragedy strikes 🙏

Does not have much to offer
paź 2016 • Biznesowy
I went to this place because the colleague I was travelling with described it as the happening place of Sylhet in the evening and I was greatly disappointed. The place has very little to offer apart from a view of the river and bridge that looks like it is from the colonial era. The only saving grace was the amazing sunset that I witnessed. The sky went crazy with colors and the river reflected it all. No guarantees that all sunsets will be that beautiful. Try it if you have nothing else to do but I have heard that it is not very safe due to muggers so be careful.
