Nice place for a picnic! (and to see old buildings)
maj 2021
This was my first visit to the open air museum but it will not be my last. Although it was cold and catering was only outdoors, this is clearly a delightfully place for a summer picnic or to relax with friends. There are some remarkable buildings too. A reconstruction of a Iron Age Hut, public toilets from Caversham (!) a tollgate and toll cottage and many other buildings mostly from the 18th or 19th century. The site specializes in farm buildings such as barns - which I found less interesting than period houses - although the 60 foot high cherry picking ladders were a highlight!
It was quite difficult to find this site because of road diversions when we visited early in May but it is a very pleasant place and is clearly well cared for by devoted volunteers and deserves support. Interesting enough for children - especially on special days when they can dress up.

Quite simply a lovely day out!
kwi 2021 • Dla rodziny
Visited today with a 5 year old and 15 month old for the first time, and it was just lovely. Intended to go for a ‘couple of hours’, ended up being there for six! We had sunshine and just ambled around at our own pace, taking in the well preserved and cared for historic buildings, animals, refreshments on the village green, kids play area and woodland walk with bluebells. Kids loved the freedom to roam in the open spaces and the mixture of things to see. Topped off with really friendly staff and volunteers. A request has already been made by the five year old to return. Thank you COA Museum!

Lovely day out

We loved our visit to the museum today - the buildings, gardens and animals all looked great in the sunshine. And a lovely walk though the woods and tea, ice cream and cake on the green too. A real pleasure.

Great choice for a day out
paź 2020
What is not to like here, fresh air, countryside setting, historic buildings and extremely friendly and well informed people. They really have done a great job of preserving these old buildings and ensuring that they have a future that educates and enables discovery and a family orientated atmosphere. They are looking to add more buildings in the future and part of the place was actually being used as a film set for a forthcoming adaptation of jack and the beanstalk. Great value over all; we are glad that we visited.

Lovely experience and staff

We had an excellent few hours here today.

It's so good to see it open. Staff super-committed and friendly. Beautifully kept buildings and gardens. Lots of things for children to do and places for picnics. Nice cup of tea! All precautions in place for the very strange times we find ourselves in.

A Nice Day Out
sie 2020
A very good outing especially during these limiting times. Virtually all of it is open and though the buildings cannot be entered currently they can be looked into. A really nice collection of old local buildings well laid out.

Lovely outdoor space as an open air museum
sie 2020
As an open air museum with buildings to explore, farm equipment, woodland, goats, chickens, sheep and cows and a play area (although some of the buildings & one of the cafe's were closed when we visited). FREE car parking.

Probably ideal for a young family with small child with the ability to run around and explore (even with a dog as they are allowed). If interested in the educational side there lots to read about as you go around the buildings etc .

The flowers and general space is beautiful, the staff are friendly and engaging. It is great value for money and so important to support small business - although this type of place won't be everyone's cup of tea.

Lovely outdoors activity
sie 2020 • Dla rodziny
Had a lovely day out at Chiltern Open Air Museum. As the name suggests this is entirely outdoors, with lots of space to explore and interesting exhibits to look at, while easily maintaining distance from others.

Booking online is swift and inexpensive, although it does require a paypal account. We booked the day before and there was plenty of availability. Parking is free and plentiful.

We spent about 4 hours here, including walking around, looking at the exhibits, using the adventure playground, and looking at the working farm and the animals. We took a picnic and there is lots of space to eat including lots of tables dotted around.

This was a very pleasant outing enjoyed by all. The weather was fair which certainly helps; it wouldn't be as enjoyable to visit in the rain.

Highly recommended, would return!

An open-air experience.
sie 2020
My highlight was meeting the Buildings Manager who gave me a history of the site and an insight into their collecting practice. Wide range of local buildings. A lot of effort has been put into collecting and displaying tools and equipment. Good information boards - clearly labelled and digestible! Lots of pictures hence very readable as well as informative. Volunteers all very helpful and pleasant. Yes, you can't go inside the buildings which is a disappointment but you can look inside and that is better than closure! Arrived c 2 and left at 3.40, just at it started to rain (always a slight issue with an open-air venue). Very good for children - lots of space to run around, play areas and sheep and goats - to say nothing of the odd tractor to sit on! So glad the effort has been made to open the venue.
