A hidden gem !
lut 2020
I have lived in the area most of my life and have only just discovered this cracking little walk. Best to park up at Checco's restaurant and walk down the lane. When you get to the Viaduct, there are some steep steps up to it, but that is the only real climb on this trip. Turn left at the top and walk over the viaduct, taking in the stunning views over the river half way across. It is sealed off at the Read end, so just retrace your steps and proceed for about 3/4 mile. When you get to the end of the path, you can turn right and get back on to the main road at the top of the lane. It's a bit of a walk bak to the car park at Checcos. I prefer to double back and take the woodland path on the left which runs right alongside Great Harwood Golf Club. Not too strenuous is this one and really enjoyable.

Amazing feat of Victorian Engineering
kwi 2019 • Pary
A hidden gem. Although this viaduct is not far away it is easily missed as you have to walk downhill along a long lane to get to it and it is largely obscured from the road. You can actually drive and park by the steps leading to it. After climbing the steps to get to the actual viaduct the views are magnificent. A magnificent feat of Victorian engineering. It has several information boards explaining the history, and also the wildlife in the area.Although the railway tracks have long since been removed the walkways have been carefully looked after making a pleasant walk along the disused railway route. Didn't have time to explore the remains of an old pit just off the walkway, an incentive to go again. And its absolutely free to visit, no charge at all!.

Brilliant

Brilliant piece of engineering. A lovely structure and a great walking path either side except it seems the caravan owner wont allow people to walk the old railway trackbed to complet a superb walk between Rishton & Padiham. How selfish can people be. So walk over it meet the barbed wire and go back from where you came. Great scenery and great structure - shame the people arent the same.

Great place for a walk, I take my hat off to the volunteers that have worked wonders with the greenway. Fingers crossed they will be allowed to open the other side of the viaduct.

Nice for a look & a quick walk
wrz 2018 • Pary
A handsome viaduct and a scenic location. A short set of steps lead up to the viaduct. Closed at one end so only a very short walk is possible. Worth the 15 minutes we spent here, but only as part of a wider tour of sights in the area.

Great walk spoiled by one obstacle.

A few dedicated people have put a lot of time and effort to make this pathway open to all with picnic tables and disabled access,it would be great if the path was opened up over the viaduct so that people can access from both ends making a circular walk like it was in the past please remove the obstacles.

A great place for a walk - super views.

We walked along the viaduct this weekend, with great views of the river and hills surrounding it. Would recommend wearing good footwear and if you don't like heights, take someone with you! Also, while there, call at the house Martholme, by the bottom of Martholme Lane, which runs private tours. It's medieval and grade 1 listed and does two tours a day on certain days a month. The family members do the tours and the lady who showed us round was so accommodating and full of interesting facts. We can't thank her enough for a brilliant hour's tour.
