Perfect place to stay and to explore Tuscany from.
wrz 2019 • Dla rodziny
This small town is a perfect launching pad to see Tuscany. Wine tours and shopping in Montepulciano, Pienze, Siena, Montalcino, etc., you can experience it all during the day. The town has 2 excellent restaurants. Cooking class at Daria's was the highlight of our trip. The town was so friendly, you couldn't have asked for a better 4 days.

Hilltop Gem
cze 2019 • Pary
This tiny 1000 year old Tuscan hill town is well worth a slight detour if you are traveling to or from Montepulciano by car. The walls and structures in the village such as the church are about 850 years old. There are a couple of outstanding restaurants in the village, but they do not open for dinner until 7pm.

The views!
cze 2019 • Pary
Montichiello is a little gem and has so much history for such a small hill town,

However, the highlight are the views of the cypress lined curving road to Montepulciano.

Also a must do is the strada panoramica to Pienza on a white road.

Perfect place to stop away from the crowds
maj 2019 • Pary
We were walking from Pienza to Montepulciano and Monticchiello was the perfect place to stay on route for coffee and a light snack. The town is beautiful and when we were there very few tourists, peaceful away from the tourist bubble and somewhere people people just got on with life. We had coffee at La Porta, just to the left of the gate as you go into town. The coffee was excellent, with biscottis (a bit like small cornflake cookies with fruit) that were perfect. Really nice guys and very friendly. They also do meals, but it was too early for us. Worth a trip of the track, and La Porta is definitely a nice place.

Monticchiello is worth a trip
maj 2019 • Pary
We stopped in to Monticchiello today, and it was well worth the hike up from the parking area. This is a lovely, well preserved small hill town. There is a good visitors’ center, several appealing restaurants and a few small shops selling locally made products. The people were generous and welcoming. A lovely side trip during a drive in Tuscany.

Rolling green hills of Monticchiello
kwi 2018 • Pary
The castle of Monticchiello flying over the green valley, endless vineyards, farms, wild flowers... the beauty which is hard to describe ... it should be seen with your own eyes...

I will never forget the sweeping landscapes which we enjoyed from the road and away from the crowds. You can only do with a car.

Beautiful little medieval village.... with something SPECIAL!
lip 2018 • Pary
Monticchiello is an absolutely special place.
It is not just a lovely medieval village, with an extraordinary view of Pienza and the Val d'Orcia.
History, calm, elegance, cleanliness ... this village is adorable.

But there is something more, and it is the community spirit of the inhabitants of Monticchiello. This is not just a little village, but a true 'community'. You get the feeling by visiting the 'information center', where volunteers are happy to provide information and suggestions about the village and the surrounding area. But the most extraordinary example of this 'community spirit' is the Teatro Povero di Monticchiello, a tradition that has been renewed for decades. Every year, between July and August, the whole village - literally, all the inhabitants! - is involved in an original theatrical representation, which is staged in the town square.

The 'theme' of the representation is chosen each year by the inhabitants themselves, and staged with the help of a director who for years has helped keep this tradition alive. And it is nice to recognize in the characters that move on stage the baker, or the guy who served you a glass of wine just minutes before at the local café…

So, do visit Monticchiello. And if you are in the area between the end of July and mid-August, do not miss the Teatro Povero (reservations in advance). Even if you do not speak Italian, it is an experience not to be missed.

I want to go back today!!
cze 2018 • Pary
We spent two nights here as a base for our Tuscany visit, wedding, and sightseeing. We stayed in the adorable tower room of B & B La Porta. The hostess, Daria, was charming and very accommodating. Her restaurant and cantina are delightful and the town could not be more charming and quaint. It is low key and simply breathtaking. It is by far my favorite place I visited in Italy. It doesn't have many shops or restaurants so it seems very real and unspoiled as well as not so touristy as the larger villages. If you prefer a lower key place with unspoiled beauty, I suggest you go here! It is magical!
