More historicaly important for the history than for the pottery.

Even I was raised in a catholic school, I was fully unaware one of the best pupils of the flemish priest Guido Gezelle (statue in Bruges) was raised here. His name is Eugne Van Oye. He became a doctor and was accused of colloboration with the germans in the first world war. Gezelle dedicated him the famous "Dien avond en die roze" poem you can read at the entrance. It's quite amazing that a son of the high society of that period was enchanted by the flemish priest. A beautiful story to tell to everyone who loves literature.

Small piece of history

This small museum is a gem of architecture. Nice to see the location.
Inside is housed a rather small collection of ceramics from the town of Torhout's history in pottery. The pieces are heavy in structure, not delicate items. Dark, natural, earthy tones in the glazes. They have organic, floral, nature themes and and some have adornment carving on the surface that is bas relief in style.

There was also a room with some modern ceramic sculptural work and another room with memorabilia.

I wouldn't say it is worth a detour but if you are in town, it's only 1.50 euro entrance. 15-30 mins is sufficient. Parking in front is .50 an hour.
