Easy little walk with fantastic geysers and a beautiful view of the lake.

I would rate this group of geysers as #2 in the park. Beautiful colors and clarity, and of course you are looking out over the lake. It's easy accesses and the boardwalks are short and very manageable.

Get up close and personal with the lake

A beautiful spot. We entered YNP from Cody on the East side so this was the first real geyser area we visit after passing Fishing Bridge. What a lovely spot right on the lake with the mountains in the back. There are some beautiful turquoise and sapphire colored features here. A lovely board walk takes you through the whole site and along the lake. Don't skip it. Budget about 45 mins for this one in my opinion.

Beautiful area along Yellowstone Lake
wrz 2020
This is one of the largest thermal basins and it is especially pretty because it is set along the shore of Yellowstone Lake. Some of the thermal features are actually set in the lake.

Easy access from the boardwalk.

Large parking area.

Geysers with a view of Yellowstone Lake
sie 2020
Parking was tricky in this location. During high season you may have to circle the lot a few times. Expect the geysers to smell like rotten eggs. (We were amused at the responses from the kids.) There is a nice boardwalk over the geysers and you can take some incredible pictures of the geysers with Yellowstone Lake in the background.

Underrated area easily accessible
wrz 2020 • Pary
The Abyss Pool was a trip highlight, with the beautiful Yellowstone Lake in the background. The walkways and signage were very usable, the parking lot well laid out, and the Ranger presence adequate. The restrooms were available but extra stinky. Overall a very pleasant stop for all ages, even 5- and 75+.

Don't Miss the Abyss Pool
wrz 2020
After spending the day at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, driving through Hayden Valley, visiting Mud Volcanoes, we came to the West Thumb Geyser Basin at around 2:20 pm as our last stop on Friday, 9/4.

Unlike the other Geyser Basins, I loved how West Thumb was right by the water and Yellowstone Lake. It also made for a very nice breeze. The lake makes for a very pretty backdrop. Like the other basins, there is a boardwalk trail made up of 1 small loop inside a bigger loop. The total distance is around 1 mile. We took our time and spent 45 minutes here.

Don't miss the Abyss Pool which is a brilliant blue color!

Loved It! Beautiful Pools Next to Lake!
wrz 2020
My husband wanted to stop here on our way out of Yellowstone before entering Grand Teton NP. I thought I had seen enough geysers, pools and hot springs after touring the Norris, Upper, Mid, and Lower, Biscuit and Black Sand Geyser Basins. I'm so glad we toured this geyser basin! The pools are beautiful and the setting, next to the lake, is spectacular and unique compared to Yellowstone's other geyser basins. Highly recommend.
