Beautiful extensive, wooded gardens with ponds and small lakes.
maj 2021 • Pary
I read a number of negative reviews before visiting so wondered if we might be disappointed. Far from it, beautiful, big wooded gardens with a series of ponds and small lakes and lots of walking paths. We walked pretty solidly for 2 hours and hardly retraced our steps.

May is a wonderful month to visit as the gardens are famous for their azaleas and rhodedendrons, which are in full bloom at this time of year and so beautiful and colourful.

Some reviewers have complained about prices but no more expensive than NT and the quality of the onsite cafes are very good. My husband and I had very a well filled baguette with a soft drink plus cake and a cup of tea each and it totalled £22.

We didn't get to see the deer or wallabies that roam the grounds but there are a number of breeding pairs of wallabies in a large outdoor enclosure that you can see relatively up close.

We spent 3.5 hours visiting and walked over 5 miles (according to my fit bit) so felt that was reasonable value for £13.50pp entry. If the Dolls House museum had been open (from 17 May) we would have been there longer, plus there will be a new sculpture garden soon.

One final point to highlight is that the gardens are quite hilly for anyone with mobility issues. However, there is a golf buggy service to take anyone who can't or doesn't want to walk to a couple of main view points from the entrance.

A beautiful place to wander around and relax.

A beautiful place. Lovely gardens and lakes. The gardens change with the seasons so a visit is seldom the same as an earlier one.

Wonderful day!
maj 2021 • Pary
We spent a very lovely few hours here, hubby and I with my parents and dog. Lots of colour, we loved the rock garden, and enjoyed just meandering along the paths, along by the lake, soaking up the beauty and peacefulness. We ate from the Engine Cafe - delicious baguettes, and later enjoyed an ice cream in the courtyard garden. However, really must give the buggy drivers a special thank you. We found ourselves by the lake and not sure how we would get dad in his wheelchair back up to the top, when a really friendly driver called a buggy for us, which took us all! The helpfulness and cheerfulness of these chaps made our day!

Majestical gardens you will want to keep visiting
maj 2021 • Dla rodziny
Leonardslee Gardens truly is such a wonderful place to visit and never fails to impress, even on a rainy day. The gardens are majestic with the beautiful lakes, wild wallabies and free roaming deer.

I have bought membership for lots of family members as visiting once just isn’t enough time to appreciate the 240 acres. The staff are very friendly and super helpful with directions, giving you tips of the best beauty spots and even running us up the big hill in a golf cart.

Afternoon tea is a real treat but you can also get a snack/ coffee/ lunch in the cafe or pump house over looking the exceptional lakes.

I really can’t recommend it enough and if you enjoy your visit and want to buy an annual pass after your first visit they deduct the cost of your day trip from the annual ticket, so you can come back as many times as you like in a year.

A few of my favourite places:
Memorial table - what a view
Climbing tree - A tree has fallen down and the branches have grown out of the side of the tree, it’s worth the hunt and kids love it
Deer park - visit and dusk and spot the deer
Lunch by the pond - a picnic can be made up in request in the cafe & I highly recommend the wine, it’s so delicious you’ll be buying more on the way out, enjoy!

Beautiful gardens although expensive entry

Lovely place to visit. Went in April and certainly more to see than I had expected. Great place to explore and also had a lovely lunch form one of the vans on the grounds. Took this and ate near the house which had a lovely view. Beautiful lake.

Nice Girls 'Wallaby'
kwi 2021
Writing this because of the 1 star whingers. You know how the world works, right? At the very least its seasonal. People whinging about how some of the animals are in enclosures. If they'd bothered or were able to read the signs then they would know why: The animals sometimes need protecting - probably from herberts who complain if they can't do a macarena with a gibbon. Yes refreshments are expensive - but they have to run the place. Here's an idea whingers - why not eat beforehand or take a packed lunch. You should know days out can be expensive. For me and my partner it was a beautiful lovely day out. Try breathing in the scents, looking at the amazing treats or observing the animals instead of kicking off because drinks weren't free and it didn't have a rollercoaster. The head gardener was very informative and has a job to be jealous of. The peacocks and wallabies were beautiful, as were the ducklings and the lakes. One of the ducklings sadly died in front of us - but hey kids, that's nature, deal with it. I think we spent about 4 hours there, it was such a peaceful place - not even spoilt by the presence of other people, namely the great British Brexit voting public. Miserable bunch. All in all it was great - the shop ladies managed my stress when I thought I'd lost my phone. Which was nice. Maybe make it clearer that the ornaments things are £7.99 and not £4.99 but thats about it. Im not going to give 1 star just because it didnt cater to every ridiculous need of mine.

Overpriced, underwhelming and smelly
kwi 2021 • Dla rodziny
Visited here yesterday, lots of the areas were off limits and for the price you pay you would expect the cost of entry to be reduced. The mank water coming out of the water feature near the house smelt as if it was being pumped straight from the toilets, really overpowering sulphur smell. Food and drink from the cafe was incredibly over priced £2.60 for a can of drink. Staff in the cafe were abrupt too. The wallabes and peacocks were in cages far too small to house them. I wouldn't visit here again or advise anyone else to, better views in the southdowns you can visit for free.

Dear claire88666, Thank you for getting in touch and providing feedback on your recent experience. There are currently no areas off-limits to visitors unless it is a private residence, and invite you to contact us on info@leonardsleegardens.co.uk so we may investigate this matter further. The water feature is cleaned and tested on a regular basis and we have not experienced a smell coming from the fountain. We apologise that you felt our cafe is overpriced and will investigate your complaint about the abrupt staff as this is not the standard of service we adhere to and encourage. We have adopted the peacocks from neighbouring villages and are currently in the process of acclimatizing them to their new home. They will eventually be released to roam free within our gardens. Leonardslee is home to free-roaming wallabies or wallabies in a maternity enclosure. The maternity fence encloses a large area and allows breeding pairs and their joeys to feel safe from predators to survive until they can be released into the gardens.
