Excellent museum with great variety of cars from classic to F1. Highlight was drive in BMW i8 around small on-prep track for my teenage son.

Beautiful and interesting cars

We have seen so many beautiful cars. The place is huge. They have racing cars and oldtimers too. If you are an 'autofan', you must visit this place.

Sooooo many beautiful cars!!

Whilst travelling through Europe on our #windy500 mystery tour I went had a look around this place.

Fortunately the day it was open (it only opens two days a week) was a day we were in town!

This museum is split into two parts, road and racing vehicles. I've no idea how many vehicles are inside but there's a lot!!!

From what I read the outside of the building couldn't be changed but the inside, especially the circular building have been adapted beautifully! Look out for the glass panels in the floor, ceilings strategically placed for better views of the vehicles.

My only criticism with this museum was the lack of English, there was none! From what info is written next to the cars you can work out the year, engine size, make, model etc but after that it was all in Swiss. I know I was in a different country but English info usually appears.

Either way, if you love shiny cars then do not miss this place!!!

Swiss museum

Autobau AG is a specialty museum in Romanshorn Switzerland.

It says in their literature "Autobau AG is the "passion automobile". In the former tank farm in the harbor town of Romanshorn, a meeting place for car enthusiasts, people interested in knowledge, event planners and basically curious people emerged. The world of adventure houses a grand exhibition and offers perfect conditions for events. With the independent entrepreneurs in the factory are all kinds of cars in professional hands, from the classic car over the sports car to the everyday vehicle."

They truly are in love with their cars.

What a surprise
sie 2016 • Dla rodziny
This was a last minute addition to our trip and we were pleasantly surprised. We did not expect to see as many cars and get as close to them as we did. My son and I sat in one of Simone De Silvestro's race cars. It was a neat experience. There is a room dedicated to classic European cars, a room dedicated to American classics, and a room dedicated to race cars.

So much more than expected!!

I arrived on the train to Romanshorn and had to ask around as to how to find the Autobau. Tourist information told me that it was only a 10 minute walk down the road from the train station, and they were spot-on. The place is so unassuming from the outside that if you weren't looking for it, you'd never see it.

Inside, it was breathtaking! As a huge fan of open-wheel and sportscar racing, as well as general automotive exotics, it was so much more than I had anticipated! For some reason, I had assumed it was one big room with a few cars in it, but there was one whole section for racecars, one section for American classics, one section for Italian and British exotics, and another for German cars.

Guests have incredible access to the vehicles. There are no roped-off areas - you can get right up next to these amazing examples and have full 360 degree views. I visited the new Porsche Museum in Stuttgart the previous week, and while this was less "glitzy", it was in many ways more impressive because of the importance of the cars and the fact that they are so available to visitors. Absolutely loved it. Only open on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings. Entry price was 15 Swiss francs.

Thank you for your feedback. We're looking for a better signalisation from the trainstation/harbour to the autobau. But anyway, we are lucky that you were our guest. Maybe you come back next year: we'll have a new part opend in autumn.

You can really say it is a must if you're a racing fan or automobile enthusiast. Car lovers supervise the exhibition and like to tell stories about the cars. We could also sit in a car, that was exciting.

Definitely as must-see for anyone interested in cars

We were lucky enough to be able to have a private tour recently and were absolutely amazed to see all of the cars on display here. If you are at all interested in cars, you must go to see this. There is an incredible variety, including many one of a kind vehicles, all of them immaculate and in working order. Best part is you can get right up alongside all of them, no ropes or do not touch signs to keep you back from seeing every detail. Plus there is a description of the vehicle and history beside each car.
The building is interesting, with the original exterior, but ultra modern on the interior. We thank our host Raffael for making this visit a highlight of our trip.

Jaw dropping beauty, class & history

The Famous 'Autobau', I've been to a few car Museums around the World, but this one takes the cake! Juan Manuel Fangio's in Argentina comes close, but Autobau wins!
The Legend that is Fredy Lienhard and his perfectly appointed staff assures you & your Family the Best Experience you could imagine & much, much more! If you love cars, than bring a box of tissues, for your jaw will be hard to keep closed. If you're a fan of Racing, well then > look no further. Romanshorn & the Autobau. I was blown away!!!!!!!!
very conveniently located to the train station, which you can take from Zurich.

A car lover's heaven

The Autobau is a short walk from the Romanshorn Railway station. The fee is around 15 CHF, and it is well worth it, even if you don't really know that much about cars. The museum showcases all kinds of cars, from vintage beauties to former F1 race horses, to even the normal Ferraris and Lamborghinis. It has many breathtaking cars, including one TESCA, vintage Jags, and even a concept car with butterfly doors. There is a placard next to each car that tells you the history of that particular car, and you can easily spend hours getting to know about each one of them. The cars belong to a Middle Eastern collector, and they are taken out for a spin once every year. Besides that, there are also some trophies, helmets, etc from some famous races. The museum also has a cafe, and you can pick up some pretty cool studd from the gift shop like books, Autobau pen drives, etc.
