nice view

nice view, no tourist at the moment, hard to find, but maybe we just looked at the map. Around enough ruins, but rather home than some monuments

Very impressive ruin
paź 2018 • Pary
Worth a quick visit not far from the main road south from Gavrio - the sign post is small and easily missed (I see a lot of reviews saying it is hard to find!) The entrance to the tower is blocked by a metal gate but it is a very imposing structure to say how old it is.
Worth a detour if you have transport but I don't think I'd bother walking there, no entry fee.

Worthy of the Walk
paź 2017 • Wyjazd w pojedynkę
Turnoff the main road about 10 minutes walk from Gavrio. There is a sign on the road. It is then about 40 minutes walk uphill, though not as steep as some other hikes in the area. Sealed road most of the way then a short bit along a dirt road once it is in sight. Impressive sight and panoramic views down to the sea. Two pretty little chapels on either side. A calm and peaceful place to stop out of the wind that buffets you as you descend back down the valley. You could drive most of the way but I think you appreciate the area more on foot.

Near Agios Petros, but I wouldn't want to drive
sie 2016 • Wyjazd w pojedynkę
I went up on a Tuesday. The entrance is locked, which I can understand in order to keep out vandals or possibly campers, but I was disappointed to not get to go inside because it looked pretty cool. And felt cool from the breeze coming out the entrance

I walked there via route 15. The part of this route that goes directly to Gavrio is well marked and not too bad. However the trail that goes down to Katos Petros is awful. Overgrown with brambles and not marked at all and you are basically just walking in a dry stream bed so very uneven and a fair amount of climbing needed. Nuff said.

Anyway the roads can be pretty toasty and turny so I was glad to not be driving.
It is a short walk to the nearby village, which does not have any services but does have some picturesque stone pathways

Bad roads, no signs
sie 2016 • Dla rodziny
Although we started heading there after having heard that the Tower is something exceptional, we ended up wasting tons of time trying to get there. There are literally no signs in the road to lead you there and every path the GPS or maps suggested ended up in big and really harsh dirt roads that are not drivable with a normal car, you NEED to have a 4x4 jeep to be able to go on these roads. That ended up in a big dissapointment sine we did not get close to the tower. Although, until some certain spot we got to see another tower ruin and some magnificent view in the hills, close to a monastery. The roads and the signs are bad to say the least.

Giants do existed !
lip 2016 • Znajomi
Giants propably existed and if so they certainly lived here!

This tower is located on your way to Vitali and is one of the most astonishing buildings of Cyclades.

Amazing!

Work in progress.

When we visited the tower was in a poor state but I believe that work has now started to renovate/protect it.

nice but abandon
sie 2014 • Pary
It is a nice landmark but very badly maintained and not welcoming to visitors. Not a sign, not traveller information. The path to visit it not suitable at all.

Great place and perfectly preserved
sty 2014 • Znajomi
This tower is considered to be one of the most preserved Cycladic Towers. A little bit of walking needed since there is a fence and you need to leave the car outside. Really worth visiting.
